No ADR? Walk Up?

My wife and I weren't able to get a couple of the ADRs (O'hana and LaCellier) and we are considering walking up and waiting. She saw an article on one of her favorites websites (all about saving $$ to go to Disney) about walking up. The article is HERE. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried it.

These days, walking up is NOT something to count on. Period. ESPECIALLY at locations like Ohana and LeCellier. These locations pretty much are in the "make a reservation" category. They are often booked/overbooked and run behind even seating those with reservations.

Disney overbooks restaurants in order to deal with the no shows. They do not hold tables for walk ups and, even if people don't show, it does not mean they will start taking any. Plus, in the little post, it spoke about Kona Cafe, which, while popular, is nowhere near the status of Ohana and LeCellier.

If you want to try it though, be there at opening. This is the best time to attempt it because they may be able to squeeze you in before they get behind. You may be lucky... but I would always have a back up plan in place and I would not count on being able to get into either.

We just visited EPCOT last month. We had tried to get reservations at Le Cellier, but we unable. So, we tried to walk-up. We got there about 11:20 and, amazingly, were seated as a walk-up at 11:30. They said they have a few seatings for walk-ups that they release at 11:30 and 4:30 each day. So, I would try that! Good luck!!

We'll be there the week before Thanksgiving which is very slow but with all the codes out right now I am already finding things to be much more booked up that years past (we always go this week).

On our trip last October we went to the WS right at 11:00am. We saw the movie in Canada and when we came out of the theater there was a CM outside of Le Cellier who asked us if we wanted a table for lunch because they had a few open. I was shocked, but declined because we were on an extremely tight budget and had decided on the Mexican cs. We got as far as Germany before I made the executive decision that we were eating in the air conditioned Biergarten and I didn't care if it cost a million dollars at that point (it was in the 90's that day).

I tried a walk up one time at Brown Derby. They couldn't take me but did get me into Prime Time. It was busy and also lunch hour. So I think it was worthwhile. Will try to walk in somewhere in the future. All they can say is no. Or in my case get me into somewhere we all loved.

That's what we thought. We have never been to Poly so that would be a good chance to explore the resort. Of the two, I am sure O'hana will be the harder one but I think we are gonna give it a try. We plan to be there as soon as they open and are prepared to wait.

When will you be doing this? Just asking because DH and I plan to do the same thing and I wanna know my competition! We have a backup plan but finally trying 'Ohana would be the cherry on top of a great set of ADR's for the week.

we had reservation for chef de france, beirgarten, and cp. while we were waiting people tried to walk up and get in but were told no in all three places since they were completely booked up. if you are going to try to walk up then be prepared to try a few different places. aslo you may want to try to call these place the day of and see if you can make a reservation in case someone cancelled last minute.

Every time we have been to either of these they ahve been turning away walk ups. They will typically not even let you wiat to see if a table opens up, but will tell you they are fully booked and not taking walkups. We watched 3 families turned away while waiting at Ohana last year.

We are just going to keep an open mind and go into it knowing we might not (probably won't lol) get in. This time of year really is awesome. Last year we kept saying over and over "it feels like we have the parks and resort to ourselves"...so maybe that'll help. I am also calling Disney dining and looking online daily.

Well I'm sure it's luck of the draw. We already have an ADR for Kona that night so we figured, we'll be there anyway, may as well give it a shot and see what happens. A couple of years back, we wanted to get into Narcoossee's and they were booked, but the CM at the Poly worked some magic and got us in. So ADR miracles are possible...!

They were eliminated when they came up with the idiot dining plan and began booking wall to wall.


I personally can't stomach having people outside of overpriced restaurants telling you to "go away" when you pay $85 bucks a day at the gate...but sadly, that is "magic" these days (if you substitute "oney" for the "agic")

Don't plan on walkups...and if you don't want to be disappointed, don't even try them. There are too few in most locations to even really count on having any success

If it's just you and DW, I would say try and walk up. We had GREAT luck this past week with just me and DH. I think there is a lot of room for 2 people at the restaurants because most people have larger parties so seating 2 people is quicker. I would definitely give it a try. We always got in way early or were able to walk up. However, the service we got once we were seated was terrible

In December 2008 myself and three of my friends from Orlando were able to eat lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern and that same day we had dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe, both times we went without any ADR's and waited 5 minutes to be seated at both restaurants.

I'm going to have to agree. We use to be able to get into restaurants last minute, but no longer. I think they all intentionally overbook now. A few weeks ago we tried to have lunch at 50's primetime cafe on a not so busy day. They wouldn't even let us in the restaurant because we didn't have a reservation. There were people standing all over the place waiting. There are just too many people using the DDP. I guess they need to build more restaurants to accomodate everyone.

Depending on when you are going could also impact any Walk Up success at Epcot. If it's when they run the Candlelight Processional, there is pretty much no chance of walking up anywhere due to all of the seatings for the 3 shows. I tried last year in December and everywhere I went (including China) were booked solid.
