NMAmy's To Do List - 4/26-Update-Page 21-The End

Great report.
As someone who has not a lick of curl in my hair, I have a hard time understanding the humidity problem. My hair goes FLAT against my head and falls in my face in the humidity. I would like a few wispy curls around my face. Alas, I think we all want what we don't have.;)

Thursday, 3/29 – Chapter 13: Magic Kingdom Fun!

Alex and I got up early for EMH at the MK. Here’s a picture of the fountain in the Dolphin Lobby. See the Man in Black?

17858wdw138-med.jpg

I got a little thrill waiting to go in. I was sad because we only had two days left. I start worrying about leaving far too early. Here’s Walt’s window:

17858wdw139-med.jpg

Wow. You could tell it was getting closer to Easter week. It was packed!

We thought we might be able to catch Space Mountain today but the line was already out to the plaza. Yikes. Time for an alternate plan.

We took a spin on Buzz Lightyear. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice but we did have a fun ride and I vastly improved my score without being distracted by a shiny fast pass.

Tomorrowland was just too hectic. We went to Fantasyland and Alex very kindly agreed to go on It’s a Small World with me. I believe because the line was non-existent. We got a boat all to ourselves. Do you want to come along? I took a bunch of pictures—WITHOUT a flash. I didn’t want to be that annoying POTC woman. Come on…I KNOW you know the song. Everybody—It’s a small world after all!

17858wdw143-med.jpg

When the happiest cruise on earth finally docked, Alex was shaking his head to clear the tune out of it. Because he was disoriented, I was able to steer him toward Snow White’s Scary Adventures. Aptly named, I might add. It WAS scary. Who the heck is this aimed toward? Maybe middle aged guests like Alex and I. I wasn’t scared myself but I could sure see how this would scare the bejeebers out of a toddler. My notes say, “Terrifying for young kids and yet lame for older kids. Very weird.”

We enjoyed Philharmagic next although I miss singing along with Caitlin. We decided to score some fast passes for Splash Mountain and then wandered around Adventureland for awhile. I’d wanted to try Pirates again but it wasn’t open. So, I settled for the Tiki Birds. Man, people were even trying to cut in line for the Tiki Birds! Alex kept muttering about going without Caitlin during the off season. Neither of us enjoys big crowds.

With no plan in mind, we headed over to Tomorrowland again. We were basically walking in circles and just going on stuff with short lines. It wasn’t a bad plan, actually. Since we usually go once a year, it’s not necessary for us to do the headliners over and over and we got to do some stuff we’d either never done or hadn’t done in years. Alex is so agreeable and could care less as long as I feed him occasionally.

As we were strolling through, I realized that the Monsters Laugh Floor was open. Okay, here’s something new!

There was a bit of a line but not bad. Pictures from the queue:

17858wdw145-med.jpg

17858wdw146-med.jpg

And I got in trouble for taking this picture—apparently, once you enter the next waiting area, no pictures are allowed. Which is strange with all the cute gags but after being chastised the first time, I obediently put my camera away.

17858wdw148-med.jpg

I thought it was pretty cute. The funniest part was the audience pictures on the screen with captions underneath that said things like, “Buying churros for everyone!” You can also send jokes by a cell phone text message for them to use in the show. I’m not a good joke rememberer so I couldn’t submit one.

It was fast pass time for Splash Mountain so we criss-crossed the park again. Alex got soaked by the boat coming down the hill again. He had planned on making me take that seat but got confused when we entered the boat. Ha. I think they must have had the water turned up higher for the warmer weather because we both got a bit wet. And we got stuck again. About 5 times. The good news is that I was able to take a ton of pictures. The bad news is that there was no fast pass hander outer waiting when the ride ended. Now that was just wrong. We got a fast pass for a short wait the other day but not for multiple waits today? I knew what it was—that was our LUCKY day when everything went right. Today was just a good day at the Magic Kingdom. Which is nothing to sneeze at. Even if you get wet.

So…it happened on one of those Zippity Doo Dah days:

17858wdw149-med.jpg

He's happy here--it's just before he got soaked!

Sorry--I have to divide this chapter up into two sections! The rest will be up in a second!

Chapter 13--Continued!

Next was the Hall of Presidents. This was actually very interesting. I remembered zilch about it from my childhood. I loved seeing the presidents fidget during the roll call and trying to guess which president was which. Alex called it another 3 hour salute to all nations but mostly AMERICA.

17858wdw144-med.jpg

I must admit I’d kind of planned the Hall of Presidents for this time. As we were exiting, it was just about time for our lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern. Yum, I was starving. I called the girls who were running late. No. Say it ain’t so. Alex and I checked in—there was a huge line of people and they weren’t taking anyone who didn’t have an ADR. Gotta plan ahead, people!

The girls called me from outside because they were afraid to cut through the line. I went out and cleared a path back in and our name was called just as we entered.

We had cheese sticks as an appetizer that were delicious. For entrees, I had the Pilgrim’s Feast (I LOVE turkey), Alex had a panini, and the girls each had a burger. Everything is yummy. When Caitlin discovered that stuffing was a part of my meal, she demanded I fork it over. Literally. She was in heaven because, “it tastes like it came from a box.” Ooh, yum. Good thing I don’t like stuffing anyway. Alex and I split a strawberry shortcake which was delish.

17858wdw160-med.jpg

I have no memory of why they were doing this but they look very sweet, don’t they?

The girls were full of energy and Alex and I were tuckered out. They went to go run around and Alex and I went to ride the TTA. I knew it was our last time at the MK and we hadn’t ridden it once the whole trip. There was actually a line for the TTA. It’s one of my favorites so I took lots of pictures:

Look at the crowds!

NEXT STOP CAROUSEL OF PROGRESS!

17858wdw168-med.jpg

Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow. Your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring!

Think I’ve done that a few times? You’re right.

We decided it was time to get out of that mess so we headed back up Main Street. Besides the frosty mug search, I was now hunting for a pink Tinkerbell sweatshirt that I had ALMOST bought last year and changed my mind. I’d seen it again on this trip and passed it by again but I figured now was my last chance and I needed to find it again. Nope, not at the Emporium. I was not a good shopper on this trip!

This IS where I heard my best overheard comment of the day! A man in the Emporium was quite indignant and said, “All they sell here is Mickey Mouse stuff!” Umm…DUH!

Of course, Housekeeping was making up our room when we got back. We picked up our mugs and went down to Picabu’s for some caffeine. She was done by the time we got back and we both took a nap. Really, girls, we napped.

The girls had headed over to the Animal Kingdom and were riding Expedition Everest over and over again. They were having too much fun to come back so we just let them be. Alex and I were heading to Epcot for dinner and adult beverages. Well, for me, anyway.

Waiting for the Epcot boat, I realized that the convention must be winding down. A bunch of folks in business suits were waiting for the Epcot boat. No black suits this time—navy blue must be the casual, theme park color. I even saw a woman in a suit with high heels. Yikes.

But the thing that amused me the most was the conversation I overheard from the folks in front of us. A man and a woman, obviously business acquaintances, were planning their theme park attack while studying the map. “First, we’ll go ride Mission Space, ride that, and then get a fast pass for Soarin’. Then, we’ll decide what restaurant we want to go to. I think we should go to a sit down restaurant. Then, we’ll hit all the other rides.”

Well, let’s see…every day this week, Soarin’ has been out of fast passes by 3:00-ish and all the table services restaurants I’ve been to have been turning people without reservations away. But good luck with your plan! Amateurs. I’m pretty sure THEY didn’t have WDW-DINE programmed into their Blackberry.

We finally arrived at Epcot. Alex and I went to the Tangierene café in Morocco. We split a chicken/lamb schwarma platter. The tebbuleh was great but the humus didn’t have much flavor. The lamb was great. We listened to Mo’ Rockin’ while we ate. I visited the fabulous Moroccan bathrooms. Since I was there and all.

Then we retraced our steps and went to France. I actually got to see the movie. It was beautiful—I have the soundtrack to it on one of my Disney cd’s and I got to hum along. The CM who introduced the movie was very enthusiastic. Her name was Sandra and her best line was, “There is no photography allowed during the movie. However, you CAN take a photo of me. Go ahead. I’ll wait.” And she did wait until someone took a photo. She was adorable. Great job, Sandra!

I had one more movie to see in the World Showcase and then I would have hit them all! And I made it. We went to Canada and watched O Canada and I got to hum along again. The movies were beautiful but they made Alex a bit dizzy. I was worried about him going on Soarin’. The beautiful gardens of Canada:

17858wdw169-med.jpg

17858wdw170-med.jpg

Now my goal was a margarita. We made it to Mexico but there was a BIG line for the bar. I got to talking with a very nice woman who was making sure the bartenders got everybody’s correct orders. I asked her if she was trying out for a job there and she told me she just couldn’t stop being a mom. Then, some obnoxious drunk guy cut through the line and told her, slurring his words, “YOU are a beautiful woman and I’m sure you don’t hear that often enough.” Her response, “Umm…thanks.” I’m sad to say I saw a lot of drunk people in the World Showcase. Kind of makes me wistful for the MK.

We tried Mouse Gears again and SCORED with my pink Tink sweatshirt! Woo hoo! Unfortunately, no frosty mugs but at least I knew that it wasn’t just my bad shopping karma.

I still had a full drink as we were leaving the park so we took a leisurely walk over to the Dolphin. It was a beautiful night.

17858wdw171-med.jpg

But I don’t think I’ve EVER seen so many people at the Boardwalk before. I had to hold Alex’s hand as we snaked through the crowds. I was very glad we were not going to be there the following week—the week before Easter. It was bad enough now and made me long for our off-season visits. The only thing worse was when we went at Christmas and we had crowds AND cold weather. At least the weather was beautiful!

Alex and I sat on the balcony enjoying the weather and the girls returned at a very respectable hour since they’d been at the MK. Early night for all of us! Again.

Next Up: Chapter 14: Our last full day of WDW fun. How sad is that?

I was so busy writing that last chapter, I missed responding. So here goes:

dddisrunner: That CANNOT EAT UNTIL LUNCH gets worse when they're older because I'd given them food money. Thinking they'd spend it, you know, AFTER I'd paid for a big meal.

I couldn't believe they moved the car either! I don't know WHAT that was about.

Glad you liked the pictures!

Glendamax: Trust me, you REALLY don't want to switch resorts mid visit. Okay, maybe once, but twice was just dumb. We missed two full mornings in the park because of it. Learn from my mistakes, my friend!

The Sci-Fi is great if you stick with burgers, fries, and shakes. As long as you kind of plan on that, it's good.

Going to Disney: Ah, if I only had a few delicate, wispy curls around my face, I could live with that. I might even like it. But I have a lot of hair to begin with (it's really thick) and it pretty much doubles in size in intense humidity. I start to look like Roseanne Roseannadanna! Not a pretty sight!:rotfl2:

Thank you all for reading! I really appreciate all the responses.

Next was the Hall of Presidents. This was actually very interesting. I remembered zilch about it from my childhood. I loved seeing the presidents fidget during the roll call and trying to guess which president was which. Alex called it another 3 hour salute to all nations but mostly AMERICA.

I haven't been on this since my Dad used to make us go as kids. I always thought he liked it, but since he hasn't been on it in 20 years either, now I think he just figured it was something kids "should do".

When Caitlin discovered that stuffing was a part of my meal, she demanded I fork it over. Literally. She was in heaven because, “it tastes like it came from a box.” Ooh, yum.

My ex was the same way. What is up with box stuffing? :confused3

The girls were full of energy and Alex and I were tuckered out. They went to go run around and Alex and I went to ride the TTA. I knew it was our last time at the MK and we hadn’t ridden it once the whole trip. There was actually a line for the TTA. It’s one of my favorites so I took lots of pictures.

Best. ride. ever.

Look at the crowds!

I didn't quote the pics, but eep!

I visited the fabulous Moroccan bathrooms. Since I was there and all.

They ARE rather fabulous. My favorite ones, though, are the ones next to the Plaza Restaurant at MK. They're not as fabulous, but they're nostalgic. They even still have the powdered soap (or at least they did last time I used them). I also like the restrooms at the Poly...very nice. Oh...but you can't beat the ones at the Yacht and Beach...fancy, schmancy.

Hmmm...I think I'll stop now.

Next Up: Chapter 14: Our last full day of WDW fun. How sad is that?

*sigh* Now what will I do?

I haven't been on this since my Dad used to make us go as kids. I always thought he liked it, but since he hasn't been on it in 20 years either, now I think he just figured it was something kids "should do".

I remember going there as a kid to use up one of those non-E tickets. :rotfl2: I enjoyed it, though. And it wasn't crowded which was a plus!

My ex was the same way. What is up with box stuffing? :confused3

I have NO idea. Her stepmother was the one who introduced it to her. Along with instant mashed potatoes and Hamburger Helper. :scared1: And she LOVES all of it. Blech.

Best. ride. ever.

I. Totally. Agree. :lmao:

They ARE rather fabulous. My favorite ones, though, are the ones next to the Plaza Restaurant at MK. They're not as fabulous, but they're nostalgic. Powdered soap? I may have to check those out next time! I'm fond of a secret bathroom by Picabu's in the Dolphin. It's enormous, not well marked, and always spotlessly clean. I also like the ones at the GF. We are bathroom coneisseurs, my friend.

*sigh* Now what will I do?

I know. I'm almost as sad about ending the trip report as I was about ending the trip.

I vote that MM starts a pre-trip report! Or you. When is your next trip, Mal? You have one soon-ish, don't you?

Don't you hate when you anticipate leaving WAY too early? I have a bad habit of doing this too!:sad2: I think the planning is almost half the fun and then the trip, but when it gets close to the end it is downright unbearable.:confused3 I am going to get myself all upset about it before I even leave!:rotfl:

You take the best pics. I love the one of Alex by splash mountain!

I am so sad that your report is almost done:sad2:

I have to say I've been known to enjoy hamburger helper once in awhile:lmao: BUT instant mashed potatoes are horrible! You'll have to straighten her taste buds out this summer!

This is going to sound strange but TTA is one of my favorite rides! I love that you get to take a break but still feel like your doing and seeing something! It is a must do for us every trip!:wizard:

Thanks for updating!:)

Lovin' your TR - bit of a late bloomer, hope you don't mind. I found you through another TR, the one about the 13 month old twins and the stay at Cindy's castle.

Your pics are awesome, and thanks for the info about all the clean potties! Definately news I need to know, with my girls now potty trained.

LOVED the comment from the CM in France - too funny. And the one from the guy that was disappointed in "only" having Mickey Mouse merchandise. TTA is one of our families favourites, and just to share, the last time we rode it my son said "you don't see many Amish in Disney, do you?"

Looking forward to more!

YEAH!!! TWO installments! Loved every minute of it!

Thanks for taking pics inside Splash Mountain. I've never been on it because I'm scared of the drop

Glad you got your shirt! Believe me, I've learned to snatch anything I want as soon as I see it! :thumbsup2

I couldnt believe how crowded it was! The pics you took in Tomorrow Land made my mouth drop open. I guess going in September has spoiled me. :snooty:

So sorry your trip is comming to an end, but I am looking forward to the rest!
- G

Whew, all caught up now!! We were there last year the week before Easter and it was just so crowded.
Love the Dream Fast Passes!! Glad you scored some!!!;)
Nice to hear your mom is doing so well!!!:goodvibes

dddisrunner: I'm GREAT the first few days when I know we have a whole week. But toward the end of the trip, I'm missing it already and I haven't even left yet.

I'm still your friend even though you like pot roast AND hamburger helper. :rotfl2:

The TTA is one of our favorites, too.

I'm glad you're enjoying the pictures. I always end up with two scrapbooks full after each trip! But I love the trip down memory lane I get from looking at them.

Kay: I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm sad that both our trip reports are coming to an end. It's been so much fun and I've met some great new friends.

Twingle::welcome: Of course I don't mind! I'm glad you made it through the whole thing and I love everyone who takes the time to not only read it but to reply. Thank you so much!

I hope the potty information is helpful--I look upon it as a kind of Public Service Announcement. :rotfl:

And I loved your son's comment about the lack of the Amish at WDW. :rotfl2

Glendamax:: I'm glad you finally got to see the inside of Splash Mountain. Our first time was just a couple of years ago. Turns out Cait thought that your log went underwater when you came down the hill. :rotfl2: Once I explained that it doesn't, she mustered up her courage to ride it and loved it.

The crowds were bad but we still had a great time. Once Cait is out of high school, we WILL go back to touring in the off-season. It's so much easier.

dwaddict: Glad you're back, dwaddict! I was so tickled with that dream pass, you'd have thought I hit the lottery! :rotfl: Doesn't take much to make me happy.

Thanks so much for your good wishes--my mom is doing great. She's getting her confidence back and is back to running around town on her own again. Her last test is this Wednesday but so far all the results have been coming back good and show no need for surgery.

So glad your mom is doing well. We had to bring my mother to our house and she is driving me crazy:scared: I told my brother she thinks she is at a spa and I am the person who works at her make-believe spa!!:rotfl2:
I will be glad when she can do more for herself and go home!!

I love the TTA and COP, drives DH nuts that I have to ride everytime we go!!:rotfl:

Hey Pal, hope everything is OK! I was hoping to read 1 more day of your trip before I left:rolleyes1 Just kidding! ;) Now I have something to look forward to when I get back! Talk to you in about a week!:thumbsup2

dwaddict: I'm so sorry about your mom. I hope she's feeling better soon.

Should I cheer you up with a story about my mom? :rotfl: A few years ago, she broke her ankle and was confined to a wheelchair for several weeks. My dad had lost a leg a couple of years earlier and he was in a wheelchair permanently which led to much bickering as to who had the right of way, etc. :rotfl2: I was going to their house every day to clean and cook. One day, I'd made dinner, was tidying the kitchen and preparing coffee and snacks for some guests that were coming over. That's when my mother yelled from her bedroom (where she was reading a book while I worked my hiney off) and said, "Amy Lee! Did you put together that electric frying pan yet?" Something she'd asked me when I first came in but I hadn't exactly had time to do it yet.

I burst out laughing and told her, "I cannot BELIEVE you just Amy Lee'd me. You know I'm 40 years old and you have nothing to punish me with any more, right?" :rotfl2:

She apologized and I put her frying pan together later.

dddisrunner: Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to get the last installment up before your trip. It's a busy day at work plus I have a couple of meetings thrown in for good measure. :scared1: I didn't have time to work on it this weekend. Okay. I admit it. The weather was too nice. :rotfl2:

So now you have something to look forward to when you get home! :rotfl2:

I hope you have a fabulous trip filled with wonderful memories for you and your family. And I can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!

Chapter 14: Our Last Day

We had one mission this morning. Well, two missions if you count Mission Space. My main mission was to get Alex on Soarin’. The poor guy had two requests when I booked the trip. He wanted to go on Expedition Everest and he wanted to go on Soarin’. No way I was going to let him miss it so we got up early and headed to Epcot. All week it had just been too busy to catch Soarin’ without a wait of at least 60 minutes. It’s good but there’s no way I’m waiting that long! The girls, of course, were sleeping in.

I took a picture of the Boardwalk because it was so lovely to see it empty after the crowds last night. It was just us—walkin’ to soarin’.

17858wdw172-med.jpg

And this is what I love about the International Gateway. Entering in the morning just gives you the feeling that you’re the only person at Epcot.

17858wdw173-med.jpg

17858wdw174-med.jpg

Straight over to Soarin’. The line was already up to the entrance and it was only about 9:05. It appeared to be moving fairly quickly so we decided to get in line first and then get in line for fast passes. Yes, you had to queue just for the fast passes. Spring Break. Yuck.

Alex was getting annoyed with all of those who waited for a fast pass and then crowded through the line to meet up with their party. I told him to just let it go and try to enjoy himself. We ended up being in the back row. I’d never had that one before. The feet didn’t bother me as much as being able to see the bottom of the screen. That really distracted me. Alex really enjoyed it so we stopped and got a fast pass for later and then decided to get the heck out of The Land.

The rest of the park was much less crowded. I had decided to try Mission Space now that they have a non-spinny version. This was practically a walk on. In fact, Alex and I were assigned a—a what? A capsule? As we were listening to our instructions before entering our capsule, my cell phone rang. I thought it was Caitlin so I answered the phone saying, “What do you want? I’m on my way to Mars!” I got a very confused response from the receptionist at my dentist’s office. Poor thing, it was time to board so I told her I’d call her back. I can only imagine the discussion that ensued after she hung up.

17858wdw175-med.jpg

Okay, so it was just Alex and I in our space capsule. I was the navigator and he was the commander. I made him lean over and press the other buttons—just in case. We almost crashed as it was—what would have happened if I hadn’t made him do that? Oh, and we had a question we discussed after the ride—when the heck did we build a runway on Mars?

I quite enjoyed the non-spinny version. I’m not claustrophobic so that didn’t bother me at all. I thought it was very well done.

We had missed Spaceship Earth earlier in the trip so we headed that way. How weird is it that the line is longer for Spaceship Earth than it was for Mission Space?

This was great. Rome still smells like hotdogs. Riding backwards into the future makes my back hurt, though. It’s my most disliked part of the ride.

17858wdw176-med.jpg

17858wdw177-med.jpg

Then we took a spin on Figment’s ride. I wanted to try Honey, I Shrunk the Audience but Alex told me that he didn’t feel like it. Since he never says yea or nay to a ride, I took him at his word and we skipped it and visited with Figment and Eric Idle instead. I’m having trouble with some of the pictures but doesn’t the one with Eric Idle in the moon remind you of the creepy, creepy baby in the moon on Teletubbies? I only let Caitlin watch that show once—it was like a bad acid trip and freaked me out.

17858wdw178-med.jpg

17858wdw179-med.jpg

17858wdw180-med.jpg

There wasn’t that much more that we wanted to do and since we were both feeling peckish, we decided to go to lunch while we waited for our Soarin’ fast passes. We had lunch at the counter service place in the Land. We both had grilled salmon with mashed potatoes. It was very yummy—particularly for a CS. I decided we needed a dessert so I went back and got us a butterfingers cheesecake to share while Alex guarded our table from the zillions of people looking for a seat. Wow. Alex was most impressed with my choice and I even kind of surprised myself. That was some good cheesecake!

We counted down the last few minutes until our Fast Pass time and then got in line. Again. Even the Fast Pass line ended up taking about 30 minutes. We were sent to the right and then I saw the Dream Team CM’s walking down behind us. And then turning LEFT. I started to get a bit upset and then I thought, “What the heck am I doing? You’ve already won once, you greedy thing, just be happy for that.” So I was. Happy for what I had won and and happy that someone else would win something and happy that we were able to go to WDW this year. I out-optimisticked Pollyanna.

We were in the next group to go and they were looking for a group of 3. The single rider guy behind us said, “Hey, we’re a group of 3!” and introduced himself as we walked down. I wanted to say, NO, NO, NO, we want the top row but it seemed a bit churlish. I know he was trying to get all of us in quicker but I would have preferred to wait for the front row. Feet and the bottom of the screen again. Avoid this if possible.

At that point, we’d done all we wanted at Epcot. The girls checked in and they were still getting ready but wanted to go to Animal Kingdom. We hadn’t done Dinoland at all on this trip so we thought we’d head over there and meet up with them later. We were kind of tired after a busy morning but it was our last day so we wanted to do as much as possible.

We also hadn’t been on the monorail yet so we walked through Future World and out the front entrance for the first time in several years. The monorail arrived just as we reached the top of the ramp, then when we arrived at the TTC, the bus for the Animal Kingdom arrived just as we got to the bus stop. It was perfect. Not dream fast pass perfect but let’s be nice to them; it’s their last day perfect.

Except for the crowds. Oh. My. Gosh. As we arrived in the park, it was SOOO crowded. Like Christmas week crowded. And HOT. It had been so cool at Epcot earlier that I had worn a jacket all day. But it seemed about 20 degrees hotter at AK. Is it because it’s supposed to be Africa? Disney just pumps more heat into the park?

We decided to try Dinosaur first which had about a 20 minute wait. The family in front of us realized they’d lost dad and a child while getting in line so mom went back to find them while the kids waited. After observing this man through the line, I could see he was a dawdler. He’s lucky he wasn’t married to me. I’d have put a leash on him. There was plenty of time to see everything and yet he dawdled—holding everyone up. He also did it as he was leaving the ride. I took some pictures in the line since we had to wait anyway.

17858wdw181.jpg

17858wdw182.jpg

17858wdw183.jpg

17858wdw184.jpg

We went back in time, captured an iguanadon, and just missed the big meteorite. No thanks to Mr. Dawdlerpants. I’m glad that Alex keeps up because I just could not stand being with someone like that.

Next up was Primeval Whirl. The line for this was even longer than Dinosaur. But I really love it so we decided to just tough it out.

After that, I was pooped out. I called the girls and they were eating nachos at Picabu’s. Sheesh, they hadn’t even left yet! It was hot, I was tired, and it was so freaking crowded we decided to just hang it up and go back to the Dolphin. I was at that point where I wasn’t having a whole lot of fun anymore.

I finally remembered to take a picture of our room location. As you look at this, we’re in the corner on the wing—four balconies up. As we sat on the balcony, if we looked to the right, we had a fine view inside the room right there. It was a suite. Luckily, it didn’t appear to be occupied. Not our best room ever but it did have a balcony and a view of the Tower of Terror so it was much better than our last one!

When we arrived back, housekeeping was in the next room. We waited until she showed up at ours and then headed on down to Picabu’s ourselves with books and refillable mugs in tow. She was just finishing up in our room when we got back about 20 minutes later. Ah, a bit of relaxation was so nice. I was really happy to take my shoes off and put my feet up and watch tv.

Around 5:00, we dragged ourselves up for our dinner reservation at Epcot. Tonight Alex is returning to his homeland. Dinner at the Rose & Crown.

The convention was winding down—no more men in black. We saw some of them still dressed in non-theme park attire and wandering aimlessly around while shouting into cell phones. I wanted to say--Relax, people. You’re just a short boat ride away from a whole lotta fun.

We were a bit early and we knew the girls would be late. Cait had been frantically text messaging me. Apparently, the Dolphin bus hadn’t shown up and so, of all places, they’d hopped on the bus to the Contemporary. When I reminded her that that probably wasn’t the best choice—they would now take the bus to the Contemporary, the monorail to the TTC, another monorail to Epcot, and then hike all the way across Future World. Poor kid, I think she’d forgotten about the TTC—she practically started crying because she thought I was mad at her. I wasn’t though, I told her Alex and I were going to check in and eat appetizers without her.

And here's Mary Poppins rushing off somewhere!

We checked in right at 6:00. and we ordered drinks (Harps for me and coffee for Alex) and an appetizer, the fruit and cheese plate. Now I’m a huge fan of stinky Stilton (my FIL loves me because I’m the only one who’ll join him in some nice Stilton) but they’ve changed the fruit and cheese plate. The Stilton is now inside some kind of puff pastry thing. It was good but I’d been looking forward to just eating it plain.

As we were waiting, Alex was cracking up because the entire restaurant appeared to be filled with Brits. How authentic. The girls arrived and ordered drinks. We were talking with our charming waiter, Michael, who Alex discovered was from Northern Ireland. Alex lived in Northern Ireland as a child. Their conversation follows:

Michael: Sure and you’re not from Coleraine, man. You must be pullin’ me leg.
Alex: I lived there as a young lad—between the ages of five and ten.

Alex became more Irish the more he chatted with Michael. It was hysterical. As a kid, he’d worked hard to lose his Irish accent when they moved to the London area.

Then the girls realized Michael was from Ireland.

Caitlin: You’re from Ireland? Do you know Mrs. Murphy?

Alex, Michael, and I burst out laughing. The girls got very excited describing Mrs. Murphy.

Caitlin and Jen: She’s from Ireland. She’s very short and has brown hair, wears glasses, and rides a bike.

Michael: Oh, she rides a BICYCLE! Sure, I know Mrs. Murphy! If you’d mentioned the bicycle first, then I’d have remembered her right away.

Bless his heart. He was telling us that he was sad because he had to return home in a month. He had really enjoyed living in Florida. He was adorable.

The girls both had chicken pasties and Alex and I ordered bangers and mash. Alex had told me he wanted to get something else and then switch with me but I told him no way was I sharing my bangers and mash. They are too good for me to give up.

We all really enjoyed our meals. Caitlin tried to steal my mashed potatoes even though she had her own personal mashed potatoes on her own personal plate. She was after my gravy. I growled at her and tried to stab her hand with a fork.

Epcot had EMH so the girls went off to try to get on some rides. You could tell it was getting even more crowded with the Easter week people showing up. Alex and I wandered around a bit and I took some more pictures.

Just like a postcard, isn't it?

We hit a few more stores looking for MM’s elusive frosty mug. Again, no luck. I’d scoured every store in most of WDW. I’m sorry, pal, but I decided to try again at the airport tomorrow.

I was so tired by that time that we just headed back to the Dolphin to pack. The girls had an early flight out the next day—ours left at 3:30. They fussed a bit when I made them leave at 11:00 but they got over it. They did most of their packing when they got back and we all went to sleep very sad that our trip was over.

I still have one more installment with pictures. I just finally got my PhotoPass CD. We didn’t have a lot of pictures taken this trip but I do like the ones we did have taken. I'm so sad this is coming to an end.

Next Up: Chapter 15: Fun at MCO (or watch Mommy throw a hissy fit!)

Chapter 14: Our Last Day

Sad. :(

I took a picture of the Boardwalk because it was so lovely to see it empty after the crowds last night. It was just us—walkin’ to soarin’.

And this is what I love about the International Gateway. Entering in the morning just gives you the feeling that you’re the only person at Epcot.

Early morning at WDW is just...:cloud9:

The rest of the park was much less crowded. I had decided to try Mission Space now that they have a non-spinny version.

I went on the spinny version once and it was WICKED COOL. ::yes:: But it also made me WICKED SICK. I'm glad I did it once but never again.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

There wasn’t that much more that we wanted to do and since we were both feeling peckish, we decided to go to lunch while we waited for our Soarin’ fast passes. We had lunch at the counter service place in the Land. We both had grilled salmon with mashed potatoes. It was very yummy—particularly for a CS. I decided we needed a dessert so I went back and got us a butterfingers cheesecake to share while Alex guarded our table from the zillions of people looking for a seat. Wow. Alex was most impressed with my choice and I even kind of surprised myself. That was some good cheesecake!

Great. Now I want cheesecake. Thanks.

;) Seriously, though, I think that's one of the best counter service places there.

And HOT. It had been so cool at Epcot earlier that I had worn a jacket all day. But it seemed about 20 degrees hotter at AK. Is it because it’s supposed to be Africa? Disney just pumps more heat into the park?

Seriously; this is a legit question. It is always SO much hotter there. :sunny: You'd think the vegetation would make it cooler, not hotter. At least that's my theory.

Get.Out. I seriously had to run to the sink in case I lost my drink. :lmao:

Alex and I wandered around a bit and I took some more pictures.

Member when I said early morning at WDW is :cloud9: ? It's tied with early evening.
