Day 9 3/6
Cast:
Alex, DH and stepfather to:
Caitlin, 13,
and me, Amy, official trip planner
Well, this is the day Ive been dreading, not only because its our last day at WDW but because my kiddo goes back to New Mexico and I wont see her again till Spring Break. Its a hard day for all of us and Cait is practically attached to my hip.
When I had planned this trip, I had arranged our flight for 7:30 p.m. so we could have one more full day at the parks. After Cait decided to stay with her dad for awhile, we arranged to have him bring her to Orlando so she wouldnt have to spend two full days traveling (one day to Michigan from New Mexico, the next from Michigan to Orlando). His flight would be leaving Orlando at 5 p.m. Well, thats ok, we could just stay part of the day. Apparently, the plan changed since the last time Id spoken with him and now Caits plane left at 2:30 and he wanted me to meet him at MCO at 1:30. Sigh. So, there went our whole day.
We thought since MGM was close and had EE today that wed head over there. We waited for the boat, and waited, and waited. How come boats are a dime a dozen when youve got all day but when youre in a hurry there are none to be found? After waiting close to half an hour, we decided to walk it. You guessed itjust as we were crossing the bridge from the Swan to the Boardwalk, we saw the boat coming. We ran back and rode the boat over.
As we arrived, I had another picture taken of the three of us. Alex again looks suspicious. Its getting to be rather funny. We rushed to Rock-n-Rollercoaster and rode twice, then got a Fast Pass as the line was getting long. Cait has been resisting the Tower of Terror for this whole trip. Im not sure why, she loved it the last time we were here. I think its the fact that its totally random now. She doesnt like not being able to predict what its going to do.
Alex wanted to ride, as well, so she begged us to just let her wait. Even though shes 13, that just gives me the heebie jeebies but she and Alex thought I was being overprotective so I went along with it after giving her a million instructions. There was a cast member at the front entrance who was only about 15 feet away. Of course, the line seemed to last forever, but we had a great ride. No big drops, lots of little hops. I really like those big drops, but maybe next time. I bought the picture while Alex went to collect Caitlin who was just fine. We were running out of time, so we used our Fast Pass for our last RnR ride. So sad.
On our first day at the parks, I remember hearing a family discussing that that was their last day and what their plans were. I remember feeling sorry for them and now Im sorry for us! It just goes way to quickly.
We stopped and picked up our pictures on the way out. Caitlin talked to her duck friends while we waited for the boat. She said they told her not to leave. Ok, if the DUCK says so. We rode in the back on this beautiful day.
We finished packing (Id smartened up since last time and packed an extra suitcase inside my suitcase so Id have a place for souvenirs!) and then I called Bell Services to come collect our stuff. I had received a phone message from the Dolphin the night before that said thanks for staying with us and dont even bother asking for late checkout tomorrow so I didnt. Actually, it was nicer than that but thats what it meant. A wonderful bellman appeared promptly and told me since we were being picked up by Tiffany at 12, that hed just hold our stuff at the Bell Desk and we could pick it up on the way out. Everyone at the Dolphin was just wonderful. If I can get the govt rate again, thats where well be staying. We enjoyed it immensely.
We went down to Tubbis. Even though they were still serving breakfast, they told me that sure they could make Cait one last grilled cheese. One of the managers stopped by as we were eating and I told her how much we had appreciated that and how much Cait had enjoyed that sandwich. I think it kind of tickled her that a grilled cheese was that much in demand.
After lunch, we sat outside by the fountain. It was nice and warm and we knew that wed be cold tomorrow! The wind was really blowing hard and Cait stood on the wrong side of the fountain and got soaked! So we sat in the sunshine for a while in an attempt to dry her off a bit. At noon, we went out front and met our Tiffany driver who took us to the airport.
Caitlin left with her stepmom and stepsister to go back to New Mexico. I later found out that they hadnt made their plane (they fly standby for free as her stepmom works for an airline) and were at the airport till 6. She had tried to call me, but Id turned my phone off. She was a little upset with me that we could have spent more time together. Shes doing ok, I talk to her every day. Shell stay in NM for the rest of the school year, then come home this summer and go back to school here next year. I miss her every day and Im so glad that I planned this trip for us.
Thanks for reading these. I really hope they had some information you could use.
