Hey NJ Diser's,

So I'm still undecided as to who I'm voting for in the US Senate Race. I probably won't decide until I get into the voting booth, since I'm not crazy about either.

My problems with Menendez are his ethics. I have very little trust him in, but compared to politicians today, who does? (which is pretty sad). Something I like about him was his fight to keep port security from being outsourced to the firm from Dubai, since NJ is a huge port state with Elizabeth/Newark. Also, I would like to see the Democrats gain control of at least one House of congress because this Republican controlled machine in DC hasn't been working. I wouldn't want to see NJ switch to R and be the state that causes the R to keep control.

As far as Kean, what I read...I really like. He seems to be very independent, hardly a Republican (well a NJ republican which to others around the country would be a moderate Democrate probably). I'm leaning towards him because I read he's in support of civil unions (can't find Mend.'s stance). However, I don't want him to get to DC and then be a Bush republican where he just votes with the President all the time. I don't think he will be, but Menendez's attack ads about his 'ties' to Bush have been pretty effective on me.

However, this race has been so nasty. We have kean who is obsessed with producing every ad of his talking about menendez's ethics...we have that awful ad that all you hear is static, and it's supposed to be a recording of some guy talking about deals under the table. If the subtitles weren't on the commercial, I could never understand what it says. I wish Kean would make some ads about his views and what he wants to accomplish, because if I didn't look online, I would never know.

Mendendez is obsessed with Kean and his ties to GWB. Every attack ad from him, is all about that. I have seen some positive ones from him, including the port deal ad but enough of obsessing about GWB. We all already know Bush is as popular in this state, as taxes are.

So...I really have no idea who to vote for. I'd say I'm leaning towards Kean, but barely. His negativity has really turned me off. Any input?

Ask yourself, what has Menendez done to deserve being re-elected? After him, Torricelli, and Gov McGreevey, and others, maybe NJ should go a little red. And don't forget Sen Lautenberg. We are a state without any effective representation in Congress. It's certainly time for a change in NJ.

Exactly why I don't want to vote for Menendez. But what exactly have the Republicans done with power of Congress the past 12 years...it's why I'm in a bind.

I saw "STOP BUSH - VOTE NOV. 7TH" signs on the way home today and it made me really want to vote for the Democrat..too bad I don't trust the guy.

My concern with Congress going Democrat is that the next two years will be like the last couple of years of the Clinton Administration. Hearings, committees, impeachment, investigations and NOTHING GOT DONE. Even analysts that favor the Democrats are saying that's what is going to happen. I don't want to spend the next two years hearing about what went wrong in the last 6-we KNOW that. We need to know what is going to be done to fix the problems.
I finally did see the Port ad from Menendez, so I guess he did do something besides court ethics violations. However, the rest of the bunch in DC have done nothing for NJ. I believe the ratio between federal taxes paid and federal dollars returned is either the lowest or near the lowest for NJ. Not that I'm some big fan of pork, but it would be nice to see some federal dollars come into this state-maybe to upgrade security on those ports?

You think things started happening after Clinton left? Nothing has been done since 1994 if you ask me. Re-electing a Republican congress will continue that trend, believe me. I like neither Jersey candidate and glad I don't have to choose. I live in NY but still have to look at both their negative ads because all the metro stations run them. Same old crap. I suspect Kean will do well because folks still remember his dad. He was a popular guy. I think it will be a nail biter at the end.

Menendez was leading until late summer when Kean turned it around was leading in just about every poll by about 3-6 points, as his attacks on Mendendez's ethics seem to have worked. Now it's flip-flopped, with most polls showing Independents splitting to Menendez, and he has a 2-5 point lead. They suspect the Foley scandal hurt Kean and other Republicans in the state, as well as Kean's urge for hastert to resign has caused some Republicans to become less enthused to cast their vote for Kean.

Honestly, I think more people are paying attention to Rutgers football than this Senate race, including me.

I thought Kean was different when I first read about him, but his campaign has shown me he's just like any other politician. So once again, NJ is left with no good choice.

I suspect Menendez will squeak by. At least this time the Jersey Repubs found someone viable, rather than the guy they usually put up who reminds me of Nixon in many ways. Forrester?
