NJ & Sandy

Clifton (Passaic county) checking in here. The wind is picking up pretty well already. We are stocked with food, batteries, water, ice, candles, and we have 2 UPS systems to charge phones if needed. We also have plenty of chocolate and wine -- essentials, you know ;)

In all seriousness, please stay safe, everyone. My cousin in Beach Haven had to evacuate through 3 feet of water this morning -- so don't wait to get out if they tell you to go! Your safety is more valuable than your property! :goodvibes

Mercer County here, our schools were just cancelled for tomorrow & Tuesday. They're usually not so quick to jump on cancelling. We're in a big district with both mountains and a river so there's some tough terrian.

The wind has picked up but nothing else is happening. Our puppy is going absolutely nuts though. It's going to be a long few days.

That's funny because DH pointed out that our cats, who usually would be bugging us to eat, are very very quiet. I do think animals can sense weirdness. Poor babies...
I did see pictures from Manasquan and some roads are already flooded.

LOL! I just went to the liquor store for some wine and Mike's hard black cherry lemonade.
Then I went next door to Rite Aid and picked up some Reese's peanut butter cups. NOW I'm ready. ;)

Just got back as well - after receiving the notification that school is closed monday and tuesday, headed out for a bottle of cabernet and a bottle of absolute! I'm good for the long hall.

Lived in Ocean County all my life until 2009 and all my family is up there. I'm keeping everyone in my thoughts, and please, all the NJ DISers, stay safe!

haha, just got back from CVS. We now have about 6 pounds more of chocolate. It's for Halloween... yeaaaahhh... Halloween ;)

Just posted this on the other Sandy thread...South Jersey checking in...we're in Burlington County and getting some rain and a little wind. Most of the school districts are closed Monday and Tuesday. My FIL lives at the shore and evacuated to our house.

I bought candy for ToT today but left it in the car. I figure there's a smaller chance of breaking into it if I have to go out in the hurricane to get to it, lol.

Just got back from food shopping. It was not busy at all, thank goodness, but the nightcrew was still there packing out, and the store looked like a tornado had gone up and down the aisles.
Stay safe everyone!

I went to the market last night and picked up a few things before leaving LBI. About 1pm today I went to Shop Rite in Manahawkin, not really to buy anything, but just to see if it was a madhouse. It was surprisingly calm. Not very crowded. Plenty of cases of water. (They must have gotten a truckload overnight). Plenty of milk. Bread aisle was getting low. The only crowded part was the deli. About 2 dozen people milling around. They were serving number #27. I took a number just to see and it was #58!!! I bought some muffins, chips, and 3 religious candles from the Hispanic section just in case.

Beach Haven here too. I didn't want to leave until this afternoon, but DW was antsy and insisted we leave last night. Looks like she was right for once!! :thumbsup2

LBIJim - praying that everything is ok in LBI - our favorite place for the summer!

All our schools here in Somerset County, NJ are closed for the next couple of days. We're now awaiting to hear whether my DH office will be closed - I really don't want him driving there and getting stuck driving to get home!

Mom & Dad got here (Burlington) earlier this afternoon from LBI. She just left to go and get some wine. Evidently, I didn't get enough! :rolleyes1

Any of our Monmouth County/Belmar residents:

Update: October 28, 2012 2:10 PM

Mayor Matt Doherty stated, We have been advised this morning by the National Weather Service to expect unprecedented record setting flooding in Belmar on Monday and Tuesday from Hurricane Sandy.

In addition, JCP&L has advised us to expect power outages lasting up to 7-10 days.

After close consultation with County and State officials, our Police Department, Fire Department, Fist Aid and Department of Public Works, I have signed a declaration of emergency for Belmar. This includes a mandatory evacuation order for all Belmar residents, and the closing of all business at 12 noon tomorrow, Monday.

Please know that if you remain in Belmar, and flooding occurs as expected, emergency vehicles may not be able to reach you.

Please take care of your family and be safe."

I grew up in the Allwood section of Clifton, and my sister still lives in Clifton. She called me this morning, we usually e-mail on Mondays. They are ready, her DH went out and got a generator. I'm really starting to think we should have gotten one, too, but DH has his head in the sand.

I have a box of chocolate tastycakes, a snack bag of reeses that we already opened and one Dove bar. That should last me another day. :rotfl2:

Burlington county here too. My ds19 plans on sitting in the car to charge his phone if we lose power. Still waiting for this storm. My company called and said we are closed tomorrow.

Our Shop Rites are closing tonight at 8. I don't remember if they closed last year for Irene or not.

We are still in FL and my husband is regretting that he didn't fly home early so he could be at our house during the storm just incase something happens.

We live in the Allwood section, too :) No generator, because we're in an apartment building. Hopefully the power won't go out. No power = no elevators... and maaaaannnn, that'a a lotta stairs! :rotfl:

I grew up in Clifton, my parents & grandmother who lived in the Allwood section just moved. My sister still lives in Clifton
