Hi all,

Just wondering how NJ cruisers who have no passport get onto the ship. State liscenses have no pictures. Luckily we have passports, but not all members of the group have them. Anyone have experiece with this?

Thanks.
Peg

The ship is the least of your concerns if they are flying. They must have a government issued PHOTO id for the plane. If you're not flying, obviously, not an issue. However, I'd suggest calling your Dept. of Motor Vehicles to see if they will issue you a picture ID. I believe I saw something about this on the Transp. board.

Hi!

My NJ license has my picture on it. I know in the past that you had to pay extra for it, as opposed to just the paper license.

My NJ license has a pic on it too. You have the option of getting one with or without the pic. It used to cost more for the one with the pic, but now they are both the same price. I always got mine with a pic for ID.

I'm from the old days and still don't have i pic on my NJ Liscense. I went to our County Courthouse and got Government Issued ID, cost me $20.00 and it is good for 4 years. When I go to renew my liscense the next time(in 2006) I will be getting the pic on it.

I got the Government Issued ID for my DD 13 as well.

When I moved to NJ and transfered my PA to NJ liscence they required me to get a picture ID for my first liscense and then I was able to renew with a paper one. I keep the old one to use as a backup for the picture. I was concerned about this last year so we all got passports just in case.

You can obtain a photo license at your local Division of Motor Vehicle. You need to fill out a form requsting a duplicate license with photo. I think there is a $5.00 charge. I've received the quickest service at the Wycoff branch, usually no more than 1/2 hour wait. Hope this helps.

My NJ license and Florida license both have pics on them. When you renew, you gotta just go stand on the 2 plus hour line if in the Central/North area of NJ. When I didn't have a pic the airlines just took several forms of id from me. My grandmother whom was 87 when we flew never had a driver's license and when we showed her other id with just a pic id she had that wasn't government issued, the person checking id's at the gate was extremely rude towards us. It's definitely worth having the pic license or a passport!

My NJ license is expired but has a picture on it. I keep it as a backup to the paper one. Last year when I checked in at port w/kids and birth certificates, the CS agent told me that next year she thought that they woul be requiring passports....so that is what I am doing this year. In Ocean County, you can go right to the mall and apply for one....pretty pricey though...I think it is $80.

My NJ license also has a photo, although I use my passport when traveling.

Or is that just for us Disney Addicts? ;)

I thought I saw something to do with the new regulations that just went into effect (the whole points system thing) that a pic is required. I could be wrong b/c I didn't really pay too much attention. Had to argue with DF b/c he wasn't going to get a pic taken for upcoming WDW trip. They're taking the AutoTrain back & he insisted he didn't need it. You know, the whole, "I never had one before" thing. Just one more argument my mom & I won!

In NJ you used to be able to choose if you wanted a photo license or not. There was an additional fee for the photo, plus you had to physically go into MV. The non-photo you could renew through the mail. In NJ you get a vision test when you apply for the license and never again.

A few months ago they passed new legislation that everyone needs to get a photo ID, and they have some sort of digital encryption on them as well. They also have a long, complicated list of items you have to bring with you to MV to get the license.

Thanks for all of the informative replies. Thankfully, we have passports, but I just can't believe that a state would issue non-picture liscences. When I filled out the paperwork for my renewed liscence, I assumed it would come with the same pic. I guess I didn't read the small print about paying extra for a pic. Lesson learned.

Still, hard to believe in the post 9-11 world, states would issue liscences without photos.

I will send the other families we are traveling with to Wyckoff DMV to take care of any issues ASAP.

Thanks again for your experiences and advice,
Peg
