NJ DIS Meet to Benefit GKTW - July 16! $1750.00 RAISED!! WAY TO GO! UPDATE in #293!

Thoughts on Cars 2 at Bridgewater AMC Dine-In?

:thumbsup2 I like the movie idea. I can't wait to see Cars2!

But I also really like the outdoor picnic under a pavilion. Food, socializing, pins, etc. I like the idea of being able to meet new people and chat.
(Others tend to frown when you chat in a movie theater. ;))

I'm not good with park planning. Who can help with that if everyone is up for it?

Okay, back to the drawing board. lol ;)

Hmmm where is Bridgewater in relation to Walt Whitman Bridge :)

if it falls on my weekend off I can help but you have to tell me where to go... :) am from Pa :rolleyes1 thinking of balloons... plates and utensils.. and BBQ :)

I've help plan a couple of family reunion picnics. Everyone brought a side dish to share.
And each person brings whatever they wanted to grill for themselves (if we have grills available) and whatever they want to drink. So, you mostly ytake care of yourself/your family- but you have a chance to share a side dish or dessert with everyone!

And things like tablecloths, plates, naplins, utensils, etc can be divied up among those who are coming.

That way no one has to spend too much money. If you want to grill hot dogs or filet mignon- that's up to you!

We can plan a couple of Disney related activities- trivia, coloring or games for the kids, pin or vinylmation trading if people are interested. Have Disney music playing. And everyone can get to know each other!
I suggest name tags too. And maybe an ice breaker activity.

And I have planned a number of Disney fan group meets in my past as well!!
For those we met at a restaurant and requested a party room for large table so we could talk and not bother other customers. So that;s still an idea- maybe a Maggiano's, a Bahama Breeze, or someplace like that. I have done a Benihana meet too that was fun. We just need to arrange ahead of time for separate checks so we don't scare the wait staff!

So- if we have an outdoor venue- that;s great.
If not- let's pick a town and find a restaurant!!

oh oh oh... I just had a mini-brain storm for GKTW...
Wherever we meet, we could all bring Disney stuff from home we no longer want and have a blind auction type thing.
Everyone puts up their items (donates them to the cause), and people bid on them. High bidder pays for the item and ALL of the money goes to Give Kids the World.

What do you think??

I know I have stuff that would love to find a new home where it can be displayed and loved!! I bet you do too.

sounds like a good idea!!! I do have a few who can use some TLC at somebody elses home :)

Yummy for the Maggiano's idea!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We live right down the street in Elberon. DS works summers at monmouth beach bath/tennis club. Can't believe how many Monmouth County-ers there are.

My very first job was bussing tables at Big Monmouth. I grew up in Eatontown, but live in Neptune now.

I like the picnic idea only because when your at the movies there is no socializing. It's just go watch a movie, eat and leave. Again , we have to remember the cost of the permit for the park.
I would help, but I'm up to my ears in planning; planning my 10 yr HS reunion now.
I hae a bunch of Vinyls that I can trade if they do not sell on eBay. We can try to make little gift baskets and to the silent auction thing that someone mentioned.
In all, i think this idea is the best.

I went to high school in Monmouth County too. Matawan Regional waaayy back in the early 70's though. Most of you weren't even a twinkle in your parent's eyes!! :hippie:
My parents lived in Red Bank after I graduated- until about 2003 I think (they're in Ocean County now). And I still have family in Oceanport.
I am in Burlington County- I crossed over to the "other side." :rotfl2:

I thought about a minor league baseball game too. Trenton Thunder- or Somerset Patriots would be fine. I live closest to the Camden Riversharks, but most people aren't too anxious to come to Camden. ;)

That sounds like a lot of fun! A baseball game would be informal, relaxed and offer everyone a inexpensive family night out.

mrFDNY!!! LTNS!!!!!! OMG a blast from POP past!! how are you??? how's the family??? How old is the son now ??? :goodvibes

Good, my big guy will be 11 in oct. We also have a new addition. Our youngest son will be 8 months this oct.

I'm worried about rain and the fee for the park. My vote is for a place with a party room. There's a Maggiano's in Bridgewater which is centrally located. There's also a Cheesecake Factory. Do they have party rooms?

what about a bowling alley on a sat early afternoon..they are usually quiet because allot of outdoor games are going on at this time( baseball, softball) its indoors, fairly in expensive, you can buy whatever food ur family eats an it can get rowdy and fun, some have arcades so if your older kids wanna get get away a little they can and they can socialize without the parents worrying about them wondering off. maybe the team with the highest score wins like a disney giftcard or something/?

This is a bar/pub in Bridgewater with a room for parties, they do the catering:

just at quick glance, I think most fire departments have rooms - no food is provided so it's cheaper:
This one is in the Bridgewater area:

This is in Somerset, nj

I know our local fire department has a nice hall, but we're too out of the way for anyone.

Just suggestions, Nikki, Linda - I'm good at online research and we're certainly willing to help out with whatever everyone decides! I like all the ideas, bowling, baseball, etc. But I think I like the idea of being able to sit around and chat, have things for the kids, maybe a 50/50 for GKTW. The Indy people had nice t-shirts made up for their get-together - I don't know how to do that. I know there's a t-shirt design place around here. If we had a design, I'd probably be able to get them made (but I'm not a designer by any stretch of the imagination!).

Off to buy flowers for Mom and for me - have a great day everyone!

I like the idea of an inside meet. Having a 50/50 is a good idea. Maybe the silent auction could include other things besides Disney.
I'm willing to help in any way I can. I think we need to settle on a place and date, so we can get some kind of head count. I work every other weekend, and I really want to come, but if it falls on my weekend to work...

I love the idea of a big covered dish picnic, with Disney related games and fund raising!! I hosted a disney in home party two years ago and still have some fun games and nice lithographs left over from that would be fun to share/auction. A "tricky tray" (also known by its politically incorrect title of chinese auction) is also a great way to auction off things to fund raise -- people buy tickets, then put their tickets in a cup for the item they want to win. one ticket is drawn randoly from the cup for the winner -- all the money goes to GKTW.

I read down and saw a few parks listed near Bridgewater. I am in NE PA -- bridgewater can be a bit pricey, but I have been to Spruce run http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/spruce.html they have a small fee (less than $100) and offer a covered shelter. This is in central NJ - not that far from Bridgewater

In my area of NE PA there are several parks that offer covered pavilions with picnic tables, play grounds, for varying number of people.

just a few other ideas!
