NJ car rental advice

Hi everyone! I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to rent a car on 8/11 to 8/27. I would be renting from NJ and returning the car in NJ. The prices are so high and I'm trying a lot of coupon codes. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm starting to think it would be cheaper to fly. Thanks

NJ has some of the highest car rental prices in the country.
If you are renting and returning in NJ check out some of the local smaller agencies rather than the big ones.

I don't know what part of Jersey you are from, but we found an excellent deal last summer on a rental car out of ABE(Allentown, PA) about 1 hour from us. My husband thought it was ridiculous until he saw the price.

Make sure to read the fine print (or ask) some agencies specify a travel radius for their cars and if you go outside what they allow you would be completely liable if there were damage or accident. We found this when we were trying to rent a car in CT to drive to NC. We ended up using Budget and they didn't have any problem with how far you took the car.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! NJmomof2 we actually live close to NYC, I'm not sure if the rates will be any cheaper, but I will check it out. Francie there seems to be so many rules with car rentals I will definitely take your advice. Thanks everyone!!
