I have an '03 Maxima. This morning as I was driving in to work, I saw another car just like mine with the left headlight missing. It brought back memories of a couple years ago when I was hearing that the Maximas headlights were being stolen. Apparently, they can be pulled out pretty easily using a screwdriver. This really makes me SO mad!! I don't understand why the headlights are being stolen. Does anyone know? I wonder if there's something that Nissan could do to fix the problem before I come out to leave for work and find my headlights missing.

yeah.…they rip the headlights out of the cars and cause $2000 dollars worth of body damage. I guess they sell them like they did with the airbags years ago. Sometimes you will see them retrofitted on some old rust bucket in "da hood". Funny those rust buckets didn’t have xenon headlights as an original factory option..hmmm.

Headlight Thefts at Bruce Springsteen Show

Nov 18, 2005 11:57 am US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) A dozen fans who attended a Bruce Springsteen concert this week were driving in the dark after his show.

Their cars had their high-intensity headlights stolen by thieves in the parking lot of the Continental Airlines Arena on Wednesday night.

Concertgoer Judy Watkins told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Friday's newspapers that the front bumper of her Lexus had been virtually pulled off when she returned to the vehicle after the show.

Thefts of xenon headlights have been a continuing problem in northern New Jersey over the past several years.

Bernard Spigner, a spokesman for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which operates the arena, said police told the authority several large parking areas in the region have been targeted recently in similar incidents.

Spigner said the sports authority increased security for Thursday night's Springsteen concert.

But why are the lights being stolen? I don't get it.

Greeeeaaaaatttt. Wonderful! I have one that's about a year old. So far, I still have my headlights. This is the first I've heard of this!

Big bucks, huh. Well, I'm hoping that no one else's are stolen. I mean talk about something that would totalling &%#$ a car owner off. I was absolutely shocked this morning when I saw the other Maxima. It wasn't even that the headlight was broken. You could tell the ENTIRE thing was pulled out. I wish there was some way to lock them in so nobody could mess with them. But oh well, I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

I can tell you that I will be totally PO'd! My insurance deductible is $1k!

this was a big problem a few years ago..I work in central NJ and corporate parking lots were getting hit left and right..

I haven't heard a lot about it lately except for the Springsteen show.

Here is a link to an old USA Today piece..about NJ suing Nissan.

It does mention an anti-theft headlight kit...maybe ask the dealer..

Mine is a late-model '04. I wonder if the kit is a standard feature now? Hmmm... I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the article.

my uncle, who lives in NY, had his stolen 3 times and the insurance company cancelled his policy.

How much for headlights :earseek: -why on earth would Nissan make these things so easy to steal???

I take it not all of these types of headlights are that easy to rip off? Why didn't Nissan go that extra mile to make it unworthwhile to attack their cars for the lights? :confused3
