As a FL resident, I know the law. I even carry cards with me just in case I have an issue. However, this isn't something I do all that much. I'd much rather sit in the car if we're out than try to nurse in front of people. DS wouldn't pay attention and it would take forever if I didn't! We'll be at WDW when he turns one, and I'll still be nursing. Anyone have any experience NIP @ WDW? I know they have that babycare center, but I really don't want to plan our day around going there. I have never noticed anyone nursing on our previous trips. I want to be prepared for what CM's might say. (asked to cover up, use the babycare center, etc?)

TIA!!

We went to Disney when I was nursing my then 6 month old. No problems - I nursed in shows, restaurants,... I was completely covered and no one seemed to even notice.

I've noticed people nursing in restaurants at WDW, and it didn't look as if they encountered any problems. - I think it is place very used to children of all ages, and you should be fine.

Unless you are walking around topless then you won't have any issues. I nursed everywhere in WDW. Nobody even notices.

I also nursed my DD at Disney World. I also didn't nurse when we were out and about a lot. I was much more comfortable nursing in privacy - however, at Disney you can't necessarily do that. DD was older so I didn't have to nurse as often - but the shows are great (Hall of Presidents specifically comes to mind) - and the TTA. Funny story - I was sitting with DD that trip and saw a mom walk by holding her baby....it wasn't until she got past us that I realized the baby was nursing. So as someone else mentioned Disney is a place for all ages and nursing babies are not uncommon :)

If you are nervous about being in more public places, choose some of the darker shows. Ellens Energy Adeventure in Epcot is good, as well as The Little Mermaid show in DHS. But of course if your child will be too distracted with all the singing & whatever else is going on, then you can find a quiet bench somewhere.

I highly doubt that you'd be asked to cover up or go to the babycare center...at least I hope! I can say that I've only noticed discreet nursing, and most of the other people around me were completely unaware that the mother was nursing at all.

Thanks! I am discreet, but I don't use a cover or blanket or anything like that. I think I was worried most about that. The times I have nursed in restaurants and such, I've had people come up to see him without realizing he was eating. I'll try to relax about it. I've just read too many stories online about moms having a hard time with rude strangers, I guess.
Thanks again!

I think it's wonderful that you are breastfeeding! When I had DD4 I absolutly loved it! The closeness, that I could continue to nourish her...I encourage everyone to at least give it a try.
Dh's family was not so supportive however and more than once asked if I didn't feel like a cow! I would simply reply "God didn't make 'em to look at":thumbsup2
Just out of curiosity what is the "law" in FL? And what kind of card are you refering to?

I am personally not comfortable seeing people nursing uncovered in public. Somone with a nursing top on that covers what is not latched onto or using a blanket to me is fine, but I have seen women, at Disney and elswhere, with essentially the whole thing hanging out there for everyone to see. In my opinion that is disrespectful to others. Agian just my opinion. I would also not feel comfortable nursing in public unless I was somewhat covered. I am not saying you have to hide under a blanket, but just use a little discretion.

I didn't nurse at Disney because my youngest had stopped nursing before our trip, but i did nurse in Busch Gardens Williamsburg and even at the water park with no problems whatsoever. I don't think anyone really had a clue what was going on ever! I even had people come up to me to talk about the baby while I was nursing! haha!

Just feed your baby when they get hungry!

I wouldn't worry about what other people have to say. It's your right to feed your child no matter where you are. There are tons of benches off the beaten path if you don't want to be sitting on Main street nursing. I didn't have any problems and I used a light blanket to cover my shoulder so nothing would be totally exposed. I used to be one of those people that was a little freaked out about seeing mother's nursing but after getting pregnant and having DS I was over it.

I Just Got Home From Wdw Yesterday And Nursed My 10 Month Old Everywhere!! I Even Nursed Him Sitting On The Floor Standing In Line To See Tink. I Dint Think Anyone Knew! My Mom Has An Ecv And I Sat Between Her And The Wall,,,, My Little Man Was Having A Horrible Melt Down And W/ An Hour Wait I Wasn't Getting Out Of Line.. I Make Sure Nothing Is Showing,, Not Out Of Respect For The Adults Around But For The Kids. I Never Had A Problem.... I Even Saw Another Nursing Mom Waiting For Her Family To Get Off Soarin..

Nurse away! No one will notice. I'll be there in a few weeks with my almost 1 yo. We'll nurse wherever she happens to be hungry (so long as it's safe :upsidedow), though at this age I imagine she'll be more interested in people watching.

i was wondering the same thing...

Forty-one states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws with language specifically allowing women to breastfeed in any public or private location (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Wyoming).

There ya go!! It's definitely legal to breastfeed in public in Florida.

I say nurse away!!! We leave bright and early tomorrow morning and I'll be breastfeeding my little one wherever and whenever!! I don't plan on using blankets or a nursing cover - I don't in public here, so I won't at WDW. I don't expose any more than I have to, but I don't have to eat under a blanket, and neither should Ava.

FL has a law which states that women have a right to nurse in public (for those that are wondering).

How I nursed in public during 5 different trips to WDW: brought a nursing cape. It fastens around my neck, allows me to see the baby, and covers completely (even when he is kicking). LOVE IT!!! Bebe au Lait makes them in several cute patterns (and I even saw a version by them at Target the other day).

Is it my right to be publicly nursing if I want to? Yes. But I certainly felt more comfortable being covered up. Could sit right there facing the Soarin' FP machines and not feel that everyone was staring as they walked up.

I nursed: On the Nemo ride at Epcot, at Turtle Talk with Crush, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic, Muppetvision 3D, a dark corner in Innoventions and I'm sure more that I can't think of right now.

Also I saw several Mom's nursing at the little play areas (like by Splash mountain, or Pooh's Thoughtful Spot). The older kids ran around while Mom fed baby, it looked like.

As a nursing Mom myself, I was on the look for fellow nursing Mom's and made sure to share a smile when I saw an eating baby. Honestly though, unless I were looking, I don't think I would have noticed.
