Nip @ Wdw??

While I haven't nursed at WDW I am a serious believer in your RIGHT to feed your baby wherever and whenever as long as it is safe. If you want to use a cape or blanket because you feel more comfortable but if not then don't. I just believe we have gotten our beliefs about breasts really screwed up in this culture and I remind people who would tell me I could feed my kids (I have twins) in the bathroom, yes in the bathroom that unless they were planning to consume their lunch next to me - forget it! Anyway, I digress. Feed your baby and those who don't like it can certainly look away - there will be plenty of other things for them to look at!!

I nursed: On the Nemo ride at Epcot, at Turtle Talk with Crush, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic, Muppetvision 3D, a dark corner in Innoventions and I'm sure more that I can't think of right now.

You forgot The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Small World, Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, Pirates, Maelstrom, the ride in Mexico whose name escapes me, Living with the Land, Little Mermaid, The Great American Movie Ride, and A Bugs Life! All nice, cool, semi-dark places to nurse! (And people are busy looking at other things!)

During her first trip, DD found herself in nursing heaven because she was sitting on my lap during all these rides!

(My favorite was Pirates!)

Our next trip will be in January and our 2nd child will be only 4 months old. I'm not worried int he slightest about where I'll feed him/her!

I've nursed all over the "world" LOL without issue. I try to find a quiet corner though, just makes it easier for me and baby. (distractablity issue LOL) Once baby got older I did go to the Babycare center just because I wanted more privacy for my on-the-nip-off-the-nip-look-around-baby LOL!

Have fun!

i was wondering the same thing...

They're just little business size cards that I got from our sons' pediatrician's office. I like having proof of what the law really is in case I have a problem. I have never had any issues, so they've never left the diaper bag. A friend of mine did have a security officer once ask her to go to a bathroom "like normal people do" once. :sad2: I guess it came in handy for her..

It's nothing special, but here's a scan:

I'm happy to see so many have been able to NIP @ WDW without issues. I'm not going to worry about it anymore. Thanks! :)

Hi,
I'm not a breastfeeding mom- I'm on medication that prohibited breastfeeding - but let me add my voice of support. I know some people are squicked at nip, but we don't hide when we adults need to eat. I didn't throw a blanket over my kids to give them thier bottles.

I just wanted to add a bottlefeeding mom's support for nip.

I NIP my DD . I just fed her whenever she needed. Usually I didn't have a cover, and like everyone else said, I don't think anyone noticed. I say do whatever you feel comfortable with. Congrats too on nursing, I loved it and was so sad when she was weaned (much harder on me than on her!)

When my youngest was a toddler I nursed him everywhere at WDW! With a toddler, you can't be as discreet as you can with a baby. But I got so good at it, that I know for sure that I didn't expose myself..lol. Though I'm sure others around me knew what I was doing.

The only park where I visited the baby care center was at AK, and I highly recommend it. Especially if you're looking for a quiet, cool spot. They even had high chairs, microwaves, tvs, and I even think baby items for sale (like baby food & diapers...can't remember this exactly because it was about 6-7 years ago). I ended up in a room with a rocking chair and a light dimmer. It was so nice to just relax there and get my little guy to sleep, while my dh had the other kids on a ride.

HTH

IMO - you will never see any of these people again & if you do, you won't remember that you ever did before. So, nurse & if there is a slip up & your baby pulls away fast & you are exposed - who cares, you don't know them...:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Relax - you will be in the most wonderful place in the world, enjoy! Don't worry:goodvibes

WDW was one of the easiest places to NIP. There is so many people there that very few people will notice what you are doing period. Our favorite nursing spot is in Tommorrowland in the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. It is rarely busy and usually if there is little to no line you can ask to stay on for a 2nd or 3rd trip. I have nursed a 2 month old up to a 2 year old and never had a problem.

We are headed to WDW in 30 days (woohoo!!) and I plan on NIP aswell. I don't typically NIP here, but I live in a state where it is not legal (so annoying)...so I am always cautious and cover myself as much as possible.
DD gets distracted very easy and is on and off the whole time. I plan on mostly nursing her on dark attractions/shows or on a bench that is out of the way a little (mostly to keep her from getting too distracted).
I really think that that once you are a nursing mom you notice other moms nursing alot more but most of the time other people probably don't even notice!
Have a great time and congrats on breastfeeding, it is so awesome!

How on EARTH did I forget the TTA?!?! GREAT place for a baby who needs a longer than 5 minute feed! (As opposed to nursing on some of the other rides, I mean.)

And Carmell, it simply blows my mind that NIP can actually be illegal in any state. Grrrr.

For those of you with infants... don't forget the awesomness of a sling for nursing! My own DD had just turned 2 when we first went, so she didn't need the kind of constant nursing of an infant, but when she WAS an infant, I had a ring sling in which I could nurse her while walking around the block and no one would know! :thumbsup2

I can't imagine that you will have any problems NIP in WDW. After all, it's a family place and BF babies are a part of the family. Cover up if you feel more comfortable, but if not, that is totally your prerogative; there is nothing disrespectful about it.

The way I see it is this: I don't have to go eat in the bathroom, nor do I cover my face with a sheet at mealtimes, so why should infants?

Ditto that.

Carmell, Are you in Michigan?

Mich. Comp. Laws § 41.181,67.1aa and § 117.4i et seq. (1994) state that public nudity laws do not apply to a woman breastfeeding a child.

Actually says: "A mother's breastfeeding of her baby does not under any circumstances constitute nudity irrespective of whether or not the nipple is covered during or incidental to the feeding."

Public nudity laws wouldn't apply to you anyway!

Last month I nursed my 18 month old in WDW quite a bit.

I nursed her

- on a bench
- The little mermaid show at DHS
- The Carousel of Progress (she nursed to sleep)
- the Movie at the France pavillion (nursed to sleep again)
- and a couple of the baby care centres

It is how I got her to konk out for her naps. I would ususally then put her in the stroller once she was out. IT worked great. I really liked nursing in the dark theatres because people didn't see you as much and it was easier for her to relax.

And for one nap, i did hold her and we did the tomoorow land transit thing. It was neat.

Like it has been said - you have every right to feed your baby. There are tons of somewhat discreet benches as Disney that can be used to nurse. Obvioulsy, it's expected if they only have 1 baby care place in each theme park. You can't make it there every time a baby needs to nurse.

Enjoy your trip

If you are nervous about being in more public places, choose some of the darker shows. Ellens Energy Adeventure in Epcot is good, as well as The Little Mermaid show in DHS. But of course if your child will be too distracted with all the singing & whatever else is going on, then you can find a quiet bench somewhere.

Whatever you do DO NOT TAKE AN INFANT ON ELLEN's ENERGY ADVENTURE!!!! One of my most horrifying experiences as a mother was when I decided to take my 6 month old daughter on this ride. (It had just starting raining outside, my daughter is usually mesmorized by tv, so I thought it would be a good idea.) I didn't realize that there would be EXTREMELY LOUD noises and scary dinosaurs on it. I even asked a CM if it would be okay to take her and he said, "Sure." -- with no other warning. 2 minutes into the attraction they show the "big bang" with, a BIG BANG, and it set my daughter into hysterics. Once the ride starts, there is no getting off it for 20 minutes. (I know, as my husband, in desperation actually jumped off of the ride at one point when it stayed in the same place and went to an emergency door that actually led outside the park.) I did everything to try and calm her down (including, incidently, nursing -- to get back to the original topic) but nothing worked. At one point, both my husband and I were covering her ears with a sweatshirt we had to try and dampen the loud noise.

I truly thought I had (1) scarred her for life and (2) ruined her hearing. Plus, I felt so bad for the people on the ride who had to deal with a screaming infant (although it was soo loud on the ride, that they may not have heard her that much.)

Not surprisngly, my daughter and her hearing are perfectly fine with no lasting effects from the traumatizing experience --- we still refer to Ellen's Energy Adventure as the "scary dinosaur ride."

Back to the OP's question -- the baby care centers are ideal because they get you out of the heat and in a proper chair, but I would feel comfortable nursing anywhere in WD.

On a side note -- I think, in general, rides at Disney are too loud, especially for young kids. I understand that they want even those that are hard of hearing to be able to enjoy the ride, but I think there would be other options in those few circumstances, i.e., personal amplifiers, etc.

I always used the baby care centers, but the last trip or 2 I did seem to see more moms NIP. I don't think anyone minds as long as you're discreet.

I just wanted to say have a great time, have fun and enjoy in your upcoming trip. Looking forward in hearing more from you.

Have a nice day everyone. :)
