DD has been muttering about how she'd love a Nintendo Wii

I think she'll have to wait until she gets money for her birthday and Christmas but was wondering whether they're any cheaper in the US or, even, if they would work over here?:confused3

Just musing at the moment but like to have a 'mission' ;)

Thanks Netty, that solves that problem ;)

Off to call to book Chef Mickey's instead :goodvibes

The usa ones won't work over here Alison.

Not quite sure why you think that, but it is an incorrect statement.

USA Wii's will indeed work over here. You just need either a voltage adaptor, or a replacement UK power supply to start with, and then you will need to source your games from the USA or Canada from the likes of dvdboxoffice.com as UK PAL games will not work on it. USA games however benefit from being cheaper and also having earlier release dates.

You do have the option of having a mod chip fitted and enabling multi region, but I have found the multi region facility to be innefective in terms of compatability, and also risky as you can inadvertantly destroy a wii by performing a firmware update from a foreign region.....best if that option is disabled if you do decide to get one chipped.

Has anyone tried this ?

Anyone bought a Wii in the states for back home ?

I know of one person with a US Wii and one with a Jap Wii. The Jap Wii owner regrets buying one though, the games he has to use on it are heavy on the Japanese text. I have an old USA Gamecube, and thats exactly the same. When I brought it back, I phoned nintendo spares and bought a standard UK gamecube powerpack for it.

The connection method best is 480p on component video, some TV's might not be compatible with the supplied composite video cable.

well with all the messing about that is involved with a usa one, you might as well buy one in the uk!
