Nintendo Switch for an 8 year old?

Quick question... difference between the regular Switch and the Switch Lite? Is it a huge difference?

Quick question... difference between the regular Switch and the Switch Lite? Is it a huge difference?

As @amylevan stated, the Switch Lite is a handheld console only. It cannot hook up to a TV and is one unit without detachable controllers. It can however still synch with other controllers so you can play in "tabletop mode" like you can on a regular Switch unit. This isn't the most convenient way to play but works for some things.

We bought the Switch solely for Animal Crossing. It didn't work with just one and we ended up having to buy another. There were certain things that only the one that played first could do, which left out the others. So we ended up having to get another.

For anyone getting a Switch for animal crossing - make sure you do NOT make your FIVE YEAR OLD the main islander....

I was so frustrated with how my son was running our island, I literally got a switch light for myself, bought another animal crossing game, and started my own island.

Now I fly over to his island on the original switch just as a visitor 🤣 i'll pick weeds and pick up sticks - typing this out is making me question my life choices but i promise I am a functional adult...

Just in my own personal opinion I wouldn't get the Switch Lite.

The main reason for this is because of the Joy-Con drift problems that Nintendo is having. Sure, if you send in your Joy-Cons Nintendo will fix them (even though Nintendo still claims it isn't a problem) for free. If you get Joy-Con drift with a Lite, you are going to have to send in your whole system and will be without it for 8 to 12 weeks for Nintendo to fix it.

I have had to send in THREE pairs of Joy-Cons for Nintendo to fix. The shortest turn around was 8 weeks, the longest was 11.
