Nintendo DS - what can it do right out of the box?

I'm getting my nephew (6) a DS for Christmas. It doesn't come with any games - that's for Santa, et al. BUT we do familiy Christmas on Christmas Eve. Are there any built in games? Can it get any from the web?

I need to charge it, but thought the DIS would know faster than electric can flow!

nope you need a game. (he could set up the date and time but that's about it if I remember properly)

Is it a dsi - or just a ds? The dsi has a built-in camera and he can take pictures and manipulate them. He can also play picto-chat but it's not much fun alone.

It doesn't need to be charged, you can play with it while it's charging, maybe you can get a cheap game??? They have them used at Gamestop for like 9 or 12 dollars
