nintendo ds V psp

Well, since xmas is nearly coming, i was thinking of jumping on the bandwagon and maybe asking for a nintendo ds lite, but then im not sure the difference between that and the psp, which is better, i would probably use it for games, at the moment i just use my pc mainly for sim and tycoon games, any advice????

I know that Alan is not going to like me for this, but the DS rocks! Not only do they have imagination enough to make a reasonably good touch screen (sometimes it does jerk a bit while you draw; probably more my fault then the machines at the way I press it) the games they have made are so imaginative that they can use most of the DS's functions.

I love Wifi too; so fun to go on Mario Kart around the world safely..

Definitely the PSP, the graphics are a million miles better and it looks lots cooler.

Both have Wifi abilities, but I am pretty sure that the PSP is more powerful and it can access the web as well as having movies, both from download or to buy - good for a flight if you don't like the in-flight entertainment.

I did have a DS but sold it and bought a PSP, it is just much better.

Another vote for the DS-Lite.

IMO the games are more varied, challenging and fun than those on the PSP. The ability of having one game card and still being able to play multiplayer games with other DS users via a donload is a real bonus. We've got two DS's in the house now and it's great to play Mario Kart or Brain Academy against each other. Using the stylus & touch screen on the DS is a lot of fun too so game control can be varied and imaginitive. The real plus about a DS Lite is its size. It's small enough to slip into a pocket and take it wherever you want - unlike the PSP "brick" with it's shiny screen just waiting to be scratched.

I have both machines, and most of the games available for each of them, so I guess I can offer a fairly unbiased opinion of my preference of the two.
Obviously I got the PSP first as it came out last year, but I can honestly say that the DSLite got more playtime in the first month than the PSP got in a whole year.
Technicaly, the PSP is way ahead on specifications, and as a media player certainly wins hands down.
Comparing the same game on the two machines can almost be embarrasing... sit Ridge Racer on each console side by side and the difference is astounding....but I find that despite this, it doesnt seem to translate into playable games.
The PSP screen on first glance appears to look astoundingly good, but play the wrong thing on it and it soon shows its shortcomings. I played Gradius on it and the white laser line moving up and down on a black starfield background was just a horrible flickery mess.
I quite often use my lunchtime at work playing wifi games with another lad here. who also has both machines, and also has erm most of the games available...and its the DS every day we play on....the PSP doesnt get a look in.
I cant really put my finger on it, as technicaly the PSP should wipe the floor with the DS, but when it comes down to games, it just doesnt do it for me.
I think i'll be selling it on ebay.... 1.50 firmware versions still fetch a premium price.

Definitely the psp. Not only can you play games, but also music, view photos, browse the web and view movies. I tend to use mine for movies then games. It was fantastic on my last visit to Orlando.

The DS is miles better.

Its more fun, graphics don't have to be amazing to create a good game.

The games are more more inventive then just straight ports from the other consoles.

The surgery game was brilliant.

I actually wouldn't disagree with you too much to be honest. I don't have a DS so can only go by what I have seen and tried in the stores, and whilst the PSP wins hands down on specification, Nintendo always come up trumps on imaginitive and involving gameplay.

Don't get me wrong I still love my PSP and wouldn't swap it for a DS as the games I like to play tend to be the ones that the PSP's superior graphics are more suited to. However If it was me in the OP's situation and I was limited to one then I would try and get some time with both consoles and try them both with a couple of different games and then make my decision based on some practical experience
