Nintendo DS question

I'm clueless here - I've never even held one of these things - but a friend & I were talking about it tonight - wondering if the chats are logged - can they be read later - ya know can I go back & read what my child has written?

This friend was telling me about highschoolers taking these on field trips so they can chat with each other - even though they aren't supposed to chat at all (guess 'cause they could be talking about "bad" things) -they get away with it 'cause its a game system.

The chats disappear as soon as you turn the DS off.

Kids will be kids. If you are worried about your kids talking about certain topics, don't be. Normally they are just discussions and there is no danger. If you are really worried, whatever they talk about on their DS they probably talk about somewhere else as well (IM, Facebook, MySpace). Just be warned if your kid finds out that you were checking their violating their privacy you may lose their trust, and trust is a very hard thing to get back.

Thanks for the info....

Dd doesn't have an account anywhere else - so no worries about talking about things anywhere else( Just the classroom) - she's too young for any of those accounts yet

A DS doesn't connect to the internet. They can only chat with other DS users who are in close proximity. For example, if they are on the bus together, and they are not allowed to talk, they can "chat" on their DSs.

They can't wind up in some internet chat room with a predator, just the kid across the aisle on the bus

They just talk about the same things they would talk about aloud. They just like the novelty of "chatting."
