I'm confused. I thought about upgrading my son's DS to a DSLite. I called the local GameStop and GameCrazy and they told me that a used one would be $100. But, a new one is $130. I thought I would save more money on a used one but seriously, for another $30, maybe I should just get a brand new one. Thoughts?:surfweb:

Unless I had that much in credit so it was like free money I agree with you that the extra money for a new one is worth it. They only guarantee them to work for 30 days.

Last week target had new ones for $99. With the holidays coming and the new dsi out I expect more sales like that soon.

A year ago I bought DD a DS Lite and sold her older DS on ebay. The old one didn't have the light-up screen and was a lot bulkier. I originally listed it on Craig's List for $55. Had several inquiries but no one followed-up to purchase it. I sold it on ebay for $106.00. I was floored that someone would pay that much for a used older model plus another $9 in shipping when they could have paid $15 more for a brand new one. :confused3

Gamestop is never priced good on used things unless it is a game, and even then it is questionable.

Nintendo systems carry a 1 year warranty, so it's usually best to buy new with them.

Microsoft and Sony only carry a 90 day warranty, which is the same as what Gamestop will warranty it for. So for one them, I'd still save my 30$ there.

If your son is still happy with his DS, wait till Gamestop does another promo on trade ins, usually an extra 10%. They usually run an extra 10% off used games at the same time, but you can't use that towards a used system. This is with the Game Informer card, so you get a total of 20% off used games. And there's usually other promos going on all the time.

My suggestion, trade in the system and get the extra 20%. Then purchase the new system, and a couple used games with 20% off. Hold onto the games for the holidays and let him have the new DS.

Depending on the popularity.
New - used prices for games.
50$ - 45$
40$ - 35$
30$ - 27$/25$
20$ - 18$/15$

Trade in credit is usually 1/2 of the used price. So you would get about 25$ for a popular new title.

As far as new items go, those are the MSRP. Systems very rarely go on sale, unless it's not the latest models. Gamestop is good for finding sales on used items and using the game informer card to get the extra 10% off and waiting for used items sales. And as well as finding some really good games that can be hard to find.

I'm pretty sure the Target price is good through 8/31.

You do know that the DS lite isn't the new model, right? The new model is the DSi. I think the only difference is it has a camera, & won't play gameboy games anymore.

Yes, I know the DSi is the newer model but not interested in it. Just called my local Target and they are no longer on sale. They're back up to $130. Oh well, I guess I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open for another sale before Christmas!

How out is your child? I would suggest the new DSi over the DS Lite. It is more user friendly, has a camera with tons of kid friendly features, and you can go online and download games. They are running about $150 used on ebay right now. My kids each bought one this way with their bday money and couldn't be happier. DS sold his DSLite for $120 on Craigslist to partially finance the new one. DD sold her DS for $80 to our neighbor. Gamestop stores and the like, IMO, a total ripoff. Good luck!

He is turning 7 and I can't trade in his DS b/c he dropped it once and one of the hinges holding the cover on is broken. It still plays fine but the one hinge is broken so I'm not sure anyone will buy it. I mainly wanted it so he could do DS download on the bus with the other kids like his brother can. I'll wait for a sale or I'll buy a used one off Ebay where the used prices seem much more reasonable than Gamestop or Gamecrazy!!

Costco has the DS Lite for $99.97 (+s/h) on their website. If you're a member it may be worth checking out your local store to see if they have the same deal.

Even with the broken hinge, it will sell on ebay. People even sell ones that don't work at all (the buyer wants the parts).

Dell.com has a $25 off coupon code for the DS Lite making it $104.99. It also works for the DSi bring it to $144.95, both ship free but you'll have to pay tax.

I have no idea when it expires but as of 10 PM tonight its working
