Hi all!
I dined at Nine Dragons on April 20th. I had priority seating for 5:15pm and was seated immediately. The dining room was only about one-third full when I arrived. My server was Ming Wei from Hong Kong. She did a perfectly fine job, while perhaps being a little on the quiet side. I had to ask her to repeat herself a couple of times, but it was really no big deal.
The menu is quite large and has a lot of different types of entrees on itboth things youd recognize from your local Chinese restaurant and some more gourmet offerings. After perusing the menu, I decided on the Jing Du Garlic Ribs and Salad in a Vase to start and the Ma Po Tofu as my entrée. I also ordered a glass of Chinese wine to go along with my meal.
The Garlic Ribs ($7.99) arrived first. What I received were four very small (and not particularly meaty) ribs served on a small plate. The ribs were quite goodquite flavorful with a unique, salty taste. I would certainly order them again and were a good appetizer size, but for $ 8.00, I dont know if I would go out of my way to order them again.
Next up was the Salad in a Vase. ($ 5.99) This . was a mistake. I had tried something similar at an upscale restaurantthe vase was a fried shell which was filled with the salad and was cracked tableside. This was an actual glass vase filled with crushed ice. The salad was long sticks or raw asparagus, daikon radish, carrot, celery and cucumber garnished with a flower. Essentially, its a fancy looking crudite. Obviously it garnered a lot of looks from fellow diners. I tried my best to work my way through it, but the dressing didnt help any. It is billed as being served with Guai Wei strange flavor dressing. Indeed it was strangely flavored: bitter, overpowering and off-putting. I only finished about half.
The Ma Po Tofu ($ 12.99) arrived in a large cast iron pot with white rice. Considering the paltry sizes of the appetizers, the entrees are HUGE! This was easily enough food for two meals. The entrée was fantastic!! The tofu was perfectly marinated and the dish was flavorful and perfectly spicy. I only was able to eat about a third of it and unfortunately was not headed back to my resort right away, so I was unable to take it with me.
Total for the meal after DDE discount and including tip was $35.00. Would I dine at Nine Dragons again?? Im not sure. While the Ma Po Tofu was fantastic, I was disappointed in the rest of the meal. I feel like there in much better Asian food to be had all over Walt Disney World. So unless I have a real hankering for Ma Po tofu I will probably take a pass.
If you have any questions, let me know!
