Nine Days of WDW Food for 9 (with pics) Now Complete w/ Final Thoughts

Great reviews so far! I've spotted lots of menu items that I really like: the stacked Kouzzina breakfast, prosciutto and melon pizza, and colony salad (I never knew you could get it with salmon!). The sustainable fish at Sanaa and the rice pudding both look delicious! I've been there before, but now I have no idea what to choose next time (I'm torn between 3 entrees and 4 desserts ).

Looking forward to more!

Signing on for the rest, awesome start so far!!!!
Thank you! Glad you're along for the ride!

You've eaten at some of our favorite places. Can't wait to try the Colony Salad this August. Great pics...look forward to more :)
If you in any way like salmon and they have it that day, please give it a try that way! Actually, I think the way they were offering the salmon that day was on a completely different salad...but our server suggested that we should try it on the Colony Salad, instead. He earned a better tip for that suggestion!!

I am sorry to have added to your confusion, DonaldDoleWhip! What a TERRIBLE thing to have to make those choices!:rotfl: I am glad you're following along, as your magnificent reviews have helped me make many dining decisions!

Okay, so I originally had Sanaa and changed to Boma only to change back to Sanaa after your review. I also have Via Napoli I can't wait to try.

Thank you for allowing me a forum where I can relive what "might" be my favorite meal of the trip (stay tuned to see if that really is the case)! Grand Floridian Cafe-We have some history with this restaurant. Four years ago we hosted my mom's 70th birthday at this restaurant. Some friends and relatives from around the country joined us for the small event and together we enjoyed good service, great food and a beautiful and delicious custom cake. Two years ago, we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the GF Cafe along with my parents and sons. Things didn't start out so well for that momentous occasion! A hostess with an attitude yelled at us for being fifteen minutes late...even though the monorail was broken down. Once again, we were served food, but that time it was not so wonderful... We had good service and a spectacular, tiered custom anniversary cake. We skipped GF Cafe on our last visit because of our overall disappointment on our anniversary. DH talked me into trying it, one more time, on this vacation. I LOVE my DH for this!! First of all, GF Cafe has a new chef and he is just beyond talented! Our service from start to finish was friendly, more than efficient and full of fun and laughter! I loved our server! The chef came out to meet us and we had a great conversation with him and gave him our heartfelt compliments. Now to the FOOD!

Fried Green Tomatoes with Goat Cheese (chef substituted boursin cheese for me) and Corn-Tomato Chow-Chow. I know this does not photograph very well. It may not be pretty but it is YUMMY, if you like this sort of thing! Please don't miss that the chef switched out the cheese for me, as this dish normally comes with goat cheese (which I loathe)!

Corn and crab chowder. I am allergic to crab, but those who ordered this soup are still talking about it! It was THAT good! I don't see it on the regular menu, but if you go sometime soon, they may still be offering it.

Cheese Plate
Truffle Tremor, Reypenaer Gouda, and St. Pete’s Select Blue Cheese with assorted accoutrements and Sesame Crackers

Seasonal Greens Local Specialty Greens, Pears, St. Pete’s Select Blue Cheese, Candied Walnuts, and Pear-Champagne Vinaigrette

Sorry for the blurry pic...I think this might be the Shrimp and Grits
Jumbo Shrimp with Chorizo and Fennel served on top of Creamy Mascarpone Cheese Grits. Not sure who ordered this, or what they thought...but I know everyone raved about their meals, so it COULDN'T be anything but a good report!

This was split in the kitchen so my sons could do some meal sharing: Grand Floridian Burger Angus Chuck Burger, Butter-poached Lobster, Red Onion Marmalade, Crispy Prosciutto, and Arugula on a Brioche Bun with Chips. My sons who shared this felt it was one of the best burgers they've ever tasted.
1-IMG_20120522_192715-1.jpg

And now...arguably, my favorite dish of the trip...(I kind of want to cry and beg for some right now) Bronzed Pan-Seared Corvina. This is not on the regular menu so I am having a difficult time with the description, but I think I remember there being a corn pudding of some sort underneath the fish. The flavors, the sauces, the spices all worked together to melt-in-the-mouths of those of us who ordered this succulent dish!

This gets the award for most fun cappuccino of the trip...but, unfortunately, it was only average in taste. My sons felt the cinnamon Mickey was used to cover up the actual taste of the coffee. We are HUGE coffee people. Two of our sons have worked at Starbuck's, each for quite some time. One lived in Italy for a semester (and then visited Italy again) and enjoyed a lot of cappuccino there and in other countries. I tell you this so you can know their level of knowledge and that their opinions on coffee should carry some weight.

Chocolate Fondue Dark Chocolate Ganache with Fruit. This was my dessert. I couldn't bear the thought of a pastry, but fruit with chocolate just SEEMED lighter! It was wonderful!

Dessert Sampler: Key Lime Tart with a Chocolate Crust topped with Caramelized Sugar, Boston Cream Pie Vanilla Chiffon Cake filled with Vanilla Custard and topped with a Dark Chocolate Glaze, Lemon Cheesecake Dome topped with White Chocolate Ganache,Fresh Berry Tart Layer of Almond Cake topped with Seasonal Berries and Apricot Glaze, Chocolate Mickey
Most of the people at the table shared this dessert with someone else. I know these samplers were total hits with everyone. In particular, I heard the Boston Cream Pie and the Lemon Cheesecake Dome complimented in the best terms.
I can't imagine not returning to GF Cafe during our next trip, unless we hear the chef has changed.

I really like Boma, but I don't think you will regret your choice at all! Sanaa is a BEAUTIFUL restaurant! You will really feel like you are somewhere special!

Signing on, loving your reviews!! :thumbsup2
Come on in! Glad your riding along!

Great report. I was still up in the air on a few ADR's for our upcoming trip but your convinced me! YUMMY!:flower3:

Garden View Lounge for Afternoon Tea with my new DIL. We each ordered The Grand Tea - The classic English tradition of Afternoon Tea, Grand Floridian style. We offer you a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts, followed by your choice of our freshly baked tea pastries or English trifle. I don't have many pics as we were too busy having girl-time for me to capture food with the camera! DIL is allergic to berries, so several items were switched out for her.

Freshly Baked Scone - Served with Devonshire Cream and Preserves, Jam Tart

1-IMG_0680-001.jpg

Swan filled with mango mousse, eclair, canoli, the unnamed square pastry was my favorite. This is DIL's plate. My swan was actually filled with a raspberry mousse. If anyone finds out the name of the square pastry please let me know so I can add it to my report. It was so good! I have said on this board on occasion that the sherry trifle at this tea might just be my favorite dessert...but I didn't order it this time! I just really wanted the pretty pastries and that was ok.:thumbsup2 They were good and I don't even regret ordering them too much! I always love the scones and cream and that lemony butter stuff. The jam tarts are good, too! I like the onion tarts...they, too, are "jammy". Some of our little sandwiches were switched out due to allergies (no shrimp for me). Those are always "meh" to me, but when the tea is replacing my lunch I feel obligated to order them! I ordered my favorite tea, The Princess Breakfast which is a strawberry vanilla rooibos. It was good! DIL ordered an Oolong tea which she told me is supposed to strengthen your teeth. Who knew? I think she liked it! We had a lovely time and DIL was presented with a rose before we left in honor of her graduation.

Everything at GF Cafe looks delicious! And I've been wanting to try the princess breakfast tea for a while - glad to hear you liked it. :)

We are trying the GFC for the first time in August! Your review has made me want to go even more! I think that fried green tomato looks wonderful!

Really enjoying your reviews!

Really enjoying your report. I want to try them all!
Keep it coming. What dates was your trip?

Thank you! We were there May 18-27

Really enjoying your reviews!

Thank you! I really enjoyed that fried green tomato and would order again if the cheese would be replaced for me with the boursin!

This was the day we met at the International Gateway at 7:45 am for our photo session with Disney Fine Art Photography. At 9:00 we were escorted back out the International Gateway exit (since World Showcase doesn't open until 11 am) and we were ravenous!

We caught a boat over to the Yacht Club and made our way to the Captain's Grille. This was definitely our worst Disney breakfast ever (and we have had many, many WDW breakfasts over the years)! Things started out well as we were seated promptly and given a large, round table (which I love as it makes for easier conversation when you are with a large party...no one is left out because they're way down at the other end of a long table)!

As we are generally not fans of buffets, we declined the buffet and chose to order off the menu. That was a mistake of gargantuan proportion! Oh, my gosh. Where on earth did they find our server? She was almost completely inept. I am glad to see WDW hiring retired ladies who need a job. This was NOT the right job-fit for this woman!! In all the years we've dined at Disney we have never been tempted to just give up and walk out. Oh, we were soooo close to doing so! I can't lay the blame completely on our server. It really falls to the management. Of course, we never saw signs of a manager so maybe there wasn't one? It is poor management if you don't have enough trained staff to cook the breakfast for nine people who show up and want a cooked-to-order breakfast! Don't offer anything but the buffet if you can't handle it! Where the server failed was in bringing beverages and in just giving us status updates. It's ok to apologize for kitchen delays! How about offering to bring out some cinnamon rolls from the buffet when you see people ready to leave? I don't know...For all those who are thinking, "You should have spoken to a manager" (I am one who often thinks that about others), let me say, in this particular circumstance, I felt that wasn't an option because it would have caused members of my party to be upset or uncomfortable...so that is the point where it's just not worth it. If DH and I had been alone or just with our younger children we would have said something.
1-IMG_0677.jpg

1-IMG_0675.jpg

Lemon-Ricotta Hotcakes - blueberry compote, citrus pudding, and Captain's potatoes. My oldest son thought these were "ok".
1-IMG_0674.jpg

Dark Chocolate Waffles - dried cherry compote, espresso-mascarpone cream, chocolate shavings and a choice of bacon or sausage. Several people ordered these. One son seemed to really like them. The others thought they were a disappointment. I tried them and was very glad I had not ordered them as I had been tempted.
1-IMG_0673.jpg

Citrus-scented French Toast - Challah Bread with lavender-infused strawberry compote and white chocolate ganache with your choice of Bacon or Sausage. I think this might have been the best of the three entrees most ordered, but no one was raving about the dish or anything like that.
1-IMG_0672.jpg

Three-Egg Omelet (Egg Whites or Egg Substitute available**that's what I ordered) - your choice of one Meat, one Vegetable, and Cheese from the following: Bell Pepper, Onions, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Ham, Sausage, Bacon, or Cheddar served with Captain's Potatoes (ordered mine with fruit) and a Biscuit. This was my meal and was completely unremarkable in any way.

The only good breakfast we had this trip was Kouzzina. However, our TS lunches and dinners were all quite good.

Great review of GF Cafe! I'm very glad I made an ADR to eat there for dinner one night!

Great review of GF Cafe! I'm very glad I made an ADR to eat there for dinner one night!

Wonderful! I hope you have a chance to try the items that aren't on the regular menu like the corn crab chowder or the Corvina!! I am sure whatever you order there will be delicious!

great pics - nice to see a Kouzzina breakfast review as we are booked for the first time in October. Shame about your experience at Capt Grille though as we are booked there too.

Aw, I'm sad to hear about the à la carte experience at Captain's Grille - I thought all three of those first items (lemon-ricotta hotcakes, dark chocolate waffles, citrus-scented challah french toast) sounded great. :(

So sorry you weren't impressed with the breakfasts on your trip. It sounds like you had some great meals otherwise though. I love how you are so enthusiastic about the food, it makes a lovely change having spent most of the afternoon reading a thread about how the food has gone downhill at WDW.
