Nikon introduces the D4 (FINALLY!!!)

Quote: "Users are also able to capture even more dynamic range with the in-camera High Dynamic Range (HDR) function that merges consecutive exposures. "

I wonder if it will merge all that into a crappy Jpeg file....

Just waiting for those who'll start selling their D3s's :teeth:

I was totally thinking that there would be an avalanche of those models on the market. They have been really hard to find 'used' for way too long.

I can't wait to see sample images with the ISO ramped up. This body should be quite astonishing. The D3s is already spectacular as far as noise goes and the D7000 is also quite good, I'm very excited to see what the D4 spits out.

The backlit buttons would be a welcome addition, there are many times when I wished for that. I haven't found any confirmed specs, but it looks like the DX crop mode is going to be somewhere around ~8mp. Not very high, but certainly usable if you frame your shots properly to begin with.

I'm happy with my D7000 for now, but I'm very likely to move to a D4 in a year or two, or whenever they start announcing the next big thing. If the noise levels are as good as I suspect they are, I can't see needing anything more than a D4 in the future.

Great I just bought my D7000 and now I have to upgrade again.... This NAS is killing me!!

ISO 12800... wow! Can't wait to see more samples.

I'm waiting to see what the D800 is going to bring. Looks like it will be a 36MP full frame sensor and have 1080p video capability. Though from what I've read so far the price will be a lot more than the D700. :-( I hope not. Potential for the D800 announcement is the end of this month or the beginning of February.

I'm not a sports photographer or photojournalist, so my D7000 suits me just fine. Only a pro would need a D4.

Thanks for the link! Here is is translated; http://translate.google.com/transla...pot.com/2012/01/stapanul-noptii-nikon-d4.html

Those images are outstanding. Comparing that first batch side by side, between 1600 and 12,800 I can barely tell a difference. The only place I can begin to see some grain is in the book cover, but even then certainly still a 100% clear image.

In the second batch, it would appear that all the way up to ISO 50,800 can be totally usable in day to day shooting, maybe even the 101,600 mode depending on how much NR has been applied on those shots, the color noise is pretty bad on the chair backs, but the Coke label remains astonishingly legible. I would shoot nothing but things planned on being shot as B&W at 203,200, if I ever had to delve into that high.

Certainly jealous! Looks to be an outstanding body! Wedding, concert and sports guys are going to flock all over this body. I suspect the landscape crowd will wait for the D4x or D800.

I agree. I would not want to lug that around all day while on vacation. The D7000 is good enough for what most of us do. Actually, so is my M43. I could see a Pro needing this, but $6,000 for a hobby camera is steep.

If I could afford one (or a D3s), I'd do it. I might wish I had a Sherpa (as if I didn't already), but I'd do it.

Perhaps we can train a pack of Welsh Corgis to carry our equipment around the park. The only downs side would be convincing Disney that there is a service animal under all those bags. ; )
