I'm new to photography, I got my first camera last weekend. A Nikon D70s with a 35-70 f2.8 D AF lens. What is the best hood to use to block glare and protect the lens?

If it's the current model, the lens takes a 62mm screw-in filter/hood. Check the back size of your lens cap, the diameter is printed there. The "best" hood would be the one that Nikon makes for it, the HB-1. If you get a rubber hood (makes a nice protective "bumper" as you shoulder carry it), just make sure it's wide enough as to not vignette the image.

I'm not looking for "cheap" I prefer "best". I'm looking at the HN-23, HN-24 or HN-26. But I think the HN-26 requires an add on fliter but I'm not sure. Yes it is a 62mm. I just looked at the HB-1, that also looks like a nice hood. Now I'm even more confused.
