Nikon D80

Very nice- I don't think the light was terrible, it actually looks quite pleasing to me. Early morning and evening make the best outside shots in my opinion.

Enjoy your new camera. :thumbsup2

Beautiful blond babies!
I have two yellow labs myself...I'll have to post a pic one of these days!
:cutie:

I don't know if I'll have another lens before our trip, so I may just have to move back a bit more with the 50mm.

Nice pictures! The only thing I wanted to add is that you can use your 18-135 lens to take the fireworks shots, so you can get a wider angle and stay in the same spot.

Help--my DD(14) accidentalyy broke my D50 while we were on vacation. I went to Ritz/Wolf today and it will be at least $125 to fix the D50. So I bought a D80 because my lenses (18-90 & 100-300) work with the camera and I really like my D50. I got the D80 for $799 (body only) and I was happy with the deal, however now I'm having second thoughts:confused3 . Convince me I did the right thing and I'll love the D80 upgrade. Thanks:goodvibes

I upgraded to a D80 from my D50. I am very happy with the performance and I just love the D80. It is a great upgrade.

I kept the D50 and a backup and second camera. When I shot at my nieces wedding, it was nice to have to cameras going.

For the $125, it may be well worth it to get it fixed.

According to the website as well as last week's Sunday insert, Ritz is giving away a free Quantaray 55-200 lens with each D80 purchase, even if it's only the body. Free is free after all.

If you didn't get your free lens, go back and tell them they owe you one.

Eh keep the D80 and send me the D50 Ill pay to get it fixed :thumbsup2

Really I would keep the D80 and get the D50 repaired and use it as a back up or if you all kidding aside you dont want to mess with it sell it or give it away as is so someone else can have a nice body.

Yep..agree with dr_zero...for that price I will take it off your hands..it can't be anthing too seriously wrong, or it would cost substantially more...good grief we have one local camera shop in my area that is trying to charge just that much for a "tune up" for digital cameras...which includes dust removal on the CCD or CMOS ( whichever you have) and cleaning the surfaces of all lenses and general outside dusting and shining....geeez...

Serioulsy, if they stick to the quote and fix it for that price and in the repair contact there are no hidden gottcha's - read it carefully - they charge for cleaning the CCD or CMOS - then I would get the body fixed..a spare body is a great thing to have around..

Thanks all. I went back to get the free lense (interesting that the saleman "forgot" to give it to me and I'm fixing the D50 to give to my DD (12) for her birthday. :)

Even though I have one and like it- I would hesitate on getting a D80 right now as the D90 seems to be forthcoming soon at least if you listen to the rumors.

And also- the D50 is certainly worth fixing for $125- but I would get a second opinion. I would send it to Nikon Service and not trust Ritz Camera with it. What is broken on it anyway?

You rock if my mom or dad would have given me a Nikon anything let alone a D50 I would have been so stoked!
:woohoo: It would take at least a week for the smile to wear down to a grin. :cool1:

the keys words being " at least $125"

that is most likely their standard repair quote, it costs 125 to send to the repair center, you authorize them to fix anything up to that price, you can have them contact you for any repair that will cost more than that...

15 years ago when I worked for ritz, the standard repair quote was $60..

Thanks, I was wondering how to contact Nikon. We think the contacts for the lenses may have been damaged as I accidentally put the telephoto lense on upside down, we were so excited to see buffalo right near the road in Custer State Park--and I wanted a close up--oops:( then DD(14) decided to "help" me get the lense off. The younger DD is the one who loves photograpy and is always thrilled when I let her use my camera. So both mommy and DD (12) will have special birthday gifts!

I hope that your lens is covered under warranty. I dropped my 18-55 on the Capital steps, it had a filter - which cracked -the lens was ok, but the auto focus was broken. Sent it in for repair - and Nikon fixed it under warranty. My son dropped the 18-135 when we on vacation in Montreal - again, I sent it in for repair and they covered it. I had issues with the shoe on my SB600 and they fixed that too.

I have been pleased with Nikon service.

The lense is fine, I'm using while test driving the D80, it's definately something with the contacts on the camera. I'm taking the D50 to an authorized repair shop today (thanks Frugal Mar for that info).
