Nikon 90 accessories question

Hi, I'm new to my Nikon and dslr cameras. I have only had my d90 since December. What I'm wondering is when you buy your new accessories do you only buy Nikon brand or is it ok to buy the generic brand? Does it affect the camera to buy the generic made accessories?

I lost my battery charger already. I think I left it at a hotel in April so I'm trying to find one now before this weekend for my son's birthday party.

TIA

Depends what accessories we're talking about and obvious personal preference:

Batteries - Only Canon for me
Charger - never needed to replace one but I suppose I would buy the same Canon one
Filters - Hoya/B+W
Straps - Anything but the standard Canon one(or similar)
Tripod - No Canon
Battery Grip - Canon
Flash - Canon
Lenses - Preference for Canon unless 3rd party trumps Canon significantly
Remote Trigger - Would have bought either but bought Canon for reliability.

So I guess most of the time I favor Canon unless their product isn't as good as the competition in which case I would go 3rd party.

Sorry, I'm looking for a replacement battery charger right now and wondering what others do as far as a second battery. Do you buy 3rd party or stay with the same brand of camera you have. I have a Nikon, will it do anything to my camera if I buy a 3rd party battery? I reason I'm asking is because I thought i read somewheres that you should stay with the battery maker of your camera and not buy 3rd party.

TIA

I bought a 3rd party battery for my D80 and it works just fine. I use it as a back up to my Nikon battery. As for the charger I would replace it with a Nikon one.

I did the same thing as you and left my charger in a hotel. I contacted the hotel and had them mail it back to me.

Through my dslr years, I've purchased three brand name batteries and probably 10 generic batteries off the Internet. The only way I can tell the difference is by looking at the label. They have all performed equally well.
