Is it weird that every day that you get closer to your trip I get more excited for you?

I think we will be at the airport when we arrive at around the same time. we will be at DHs the same morning as you and MNSSHP the same night as you. So exciting! Next week, I have two and a half days of work. The kids (my students) have a half day on Wednesday and we have to grade and do interims in the afternoon , but we are allowed to grade at home and telework so I will be "working" from home. I am getting my grades done on Tuesday so that I can pack last minute thipicket home before picking the kids up and driving to the airport. enjoy your last weekend before Disney!

I'm sure you'll be able to make it all fit! Anything to avoid luggage fees! It's so soon for you now! I can't help but think that I'd be leaving in 6 days, so depressing. I know I'll be there soon enough though. So don't feel too bad! haha

Oh it's not looking good for the packing. I just put the costumes in the small suitcase and it literally filled the entire thing. Trying to come up with plan B.

I'm VERY impressed that you are only bringing a carry on. We have the same dates and there is NO WAY I could pull that off. 4 checked bags(not yet packed) for us plus carry ons filled with mostly entertainment for the kids I really need a 12 step program for over packing.

Super smart idea on having your folks take some of those items - especially the glow sticks! I always take a razor in my carry-on and they haven't said a thing about it but now I wonder if I need to check the TSA website. Maybe I just slipped it through

I took my glow sticks in my carryon last year and they didn't say anything, but it's not worth the risk for sure (I had extras in my checked luggage just in case) It's awesome the timing works so your parents can take the stuff with them! I'm sure this weekend will be full of fun filled packing!

Yes! Wish I would've had them take our costumes!

I've been lurking but I just want to say that you can bring razors in your carry-on luggage. Obviously not razor blades but disposable razors are just fine! I've done it our past 2 trips and was never stopped. I checked the TSA website and it's listed right on there that they are accepted.

You'll be there the 28th and we're arriving on the 29th! I'm happy to see that so many DISers will be there when we're there, too!

Thanks for the tip about the razors. Kind of too late now but it's fine. Oooh, hope we run into each other!

Yes! That's right...I remember we said we would be at the airport around the same time. Okay, look for us at DHS and definitely at MNSSHP! We'll be Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head walking around with three giant pieces of candy! (The rest of the fam!)

Okay....MAJOR problem! I carefully packed both potato head costumes and all their accessories into one of the plastic bags they came in. So I laid out the two carry-on suitcases I have to see how much space the costumes would take up....uhhh, pretty much the whole thing!

So with limited space as it is, there's no way I can waste that much room in one of the "suitcases" with the costumes. So time for Plan B...and here's where I need advice from frequent travelers.....


Plan B involves not putting the costumes in the suitcase. The original plan was for Tom to carry the large camera bag as his "personal item" and I would carry a large bag with whatever didn't fit in the suitcases AND my Vera purse inside. Therefore, we each have a carry-on (the suitcase) and a personal item.

BUT, now we also need to carry the costume bag. Now I KNOW that I've seen people carry on shopping bags from Disney on the way home on top of their carry-ons so I'm almost thinking I could just throw it in a bag and it would be fine.

BUT, what if we did this...

I put the camera bag into my LARGE personal item bag (which fits). I can also fit the purse but that doesn't leave much room for "things that don't fit in the suitcase." And then Tom takes the costumes in another bag as his "personal" item.

Here would be our two personal items. My large bag with the camera bag in it and Tom's "personal item" bag with the costumes in it. (I put a book in the picture for some perspective and I also took a (terrible) pic of my holding the bag.

So tell me....do you think that will work?!?! Are those two bags okay for "personal items?"

Or am I just really pushing it and need to suck it up and check a normal sized suitcase?

I won't really know all of that until tomorrow when I pack the rest of my clothes and see just how tight of a fit it is....

That's an option but one of the reasons not to check a bag is to save money so that kind of defeats the purpose....

Details about the 40th (Oct. 1) have finally come out and it all sounds fantastic!! From a one-day only limited edition t-shirt to special fireworks....I'm soooo glad we are spending the whole day there!!

I think your luggage should be ok... is there a weight limit for carry-on items? When we fly with Virgin Atlantic it's 6kg (about 13lb?) and mine is nearly always more than that, I have to try and make it look light and non-heavy when we check-in!

I'm really jealous you're going to be there for the 40th anniversary - glad that Disney is doing some special events for it, I bet the fireworks will be amazing - there's rumours that there'll be unusual/rarely seen characters out in the Magic Kingdom too!

Emma!! You scared the crap out of me with the 13lb carry-on limit!! I thought that couldn't be right...I just checked and it's actually 40lbs for Continental so phewww!

Funny about wearing the costumes on the plane! We'll figure it all out I'm sure. I'll know by tonight if it's going to work!

I heard the rumors about the characters too. We're trying to work it out because I have the 5K that morning and might not be able to get to the MK by rope drop. We're thinking Tom will go early to be sure he's there when the park opens to get those exclusive t-shirts. I'm just hoping I can make it there by 9:30 so I don't miss the character parade up to the castle and then the speakers and sing-a-long!!

GREAT NEWS!

After lots of laundry, I finally started getting all my clothes together to pack. Now, I can't just pick the clothes and throw them in. I have to match the shirt with the shorts, try them on and decide which day to wear them. Plus add in an extra outfit or two.

So I did all that, got my running clothes, sneakers, socks, pjs, cardigan, undies, 2 pairs of flips....

Put it all in the suitcase and lo and behold, there's SOOO much room left over!! I guess I didn't realize just how small my summer/vacation clothes are. I mean really, how much room do little shorts and a tank take up?

So I started taking some of the things I planned for the carry-on and put them in....ears, toothbrushes, shower poof.....then it hit me....what if the costumes fit??

So I took out that extra stuff, rearranged some things so it was all flat and what do you know, THEY FIT! They are pretty smooshed in there but they fit none-the-less! And I didn't even have to expand the suitcase.

So that's a HUGE relief! And Tom has extra room in his suitcase too so I was able to put in the ears, toothbrushes, etc. AND the rain jackets. So really, there's not much else that needs to be carried-on anymore that doesn't fit in the suitcases!

I'm so psyched!

That's great about the suitcases. I know it had you concerned. We are checking two suitcases for four of us and bringing two carry-ons. I hope that it's enough. I have the suitcases packed and just have little things to put in the carry-on. Yay! We are so close. I will definitely look for you in DHS and at MNSSHP. My little ones are the only ones dressing up. We are just wearing Halloween tees. So we will have a little Tinkerbell and Boba Fett.

You know, I wasn't planning on doing MK on 10/1, except for that night, for the fireworks, but now I might have to rethink that...I'd really like to see the rare characters and all the other fun things they are going to do!
