My sister has advanced cancer and took what we all fear is her last trip to DW last week. She got through chemo and a lot of pain by focusing on building a memory of her 3 grand daughters and her at a princess lunch. She wanted the 4 y/o to remember her.

Well, I called right at 7am 90 days prior to our trip and couldn't get Cindy so we happily settled for Norway. I explained the importance of this meal to the cm. Imagine the shock and horror when we arrived (early) and our ADR's were not on the list. Even though I had the confirmation number and the manager of Norway knew of my sister's terminal illness he was rude and sent us away. My sister had spent days finding the girls perfect dresses and she made the autograph books with stickers of their favorite princesses. This time was her precious last and she had little energy for this task but did it anyway.

I'll never forget how tired and defeated she looked that evening of her last day at DW. I can't be quite the fan of DW that I used to be. Be warned that ADR's may be meaningless even though they take your credit card number!!!

:( I am so sorry that this happened to you. The manager should have found a table for you. Did you speak to Guest Relations?

OH MY GAWD!!!! that is horrible..i am so sorry this happend

Her son spoke to guest relations and they offered her a table at 9pm. She was exhausted and the kids are so young that was totally impossible. I have written Al Weiss and a very nice lady whose husband works for disney also wrote him. This shouldn't happen at disney. It was a disney mistake!!!! No amount of money would make up for my sister's disappointment. I just hope no one else has this to happen to them.

I am sorry, what a terrible disappointment! Very sad, indeed.

Is there a tea house or another fancy restaurant near where you live that your sister could go with her granddaughters? They could all get dressed up anyway. Even if the restaurant is expensive they could go at a less busy time when the place opens or in the afternoon. Sometimes horticultural gardens have nice places for tea, or museums.

Oh my heart feels for you so much. I'm sorry to hear about this happening.

With all due respect -- I find this:

Even though I had the confirmation number and the manager of Norway knew of my sister's terminal illness he was rude and sent us away.

hard to believe.

Sorry but your one having cancer or not should not change how a lost reservation is handeled. I feal sorry for her, but it is irrelevent in the situation.

That's your opinion and it's very cold. However, I disagree. Any caring human being could find it in their heart to go the extra step to rectify the situation in this case.

OK, Disney ought to handle EVERY situation with tact and they ought to fix any mistakes they make. But it sure wouldn't hurt the world much if people went the extra mile for someone who is going to die. Geez, people, if we can't do a little extra for the dying, then who will we do it for?

I really hope that that someday that restaurant guy gets the other end of it.

It does not surprise me that Disney made a mistake and was rude/indifferent about it. I love Disney, but am STILL (over a year now) trying to get back the money I paid for a water view I didn't get. And, yeah, some of them have been rude.

I am terribly sorry for you. For her to work that hard and then suffer a disappointment like that...it is heartbreaking.

You'll all be in my prayers tonight.

I agree!!!!

That seems really odd - I wonder if your ressies were made accidentally for a different day? From what I understand, you can request a list of your ADR's from your resort when you check-in. I have never tried to do this.

I am sorry about your sister. I think it should have been handled a lot better.

Denise

That's horrible.

We had one problem with an ADR. somehow the number existed but the name on it was another person. I called Disney Dining and the CM went out of his way and even called the lady at home and realized somebody made an error when they booked my reservation. The CM then talked to the manager and everything was taken care of.

I'm sorry no one went out of their way for this situation.

And for the couple of people who just jump from thread to thread trying to be a contrarian, grow up and get some class.

Oh my goodness. :( It changes everything, IMO.

Shame on that manager! It's bad enough to not even try to honor the reservation. It's a million times worse to know it was a special last trip.

Why would she lie? I'm so sorry. Under her special circumstances, something should've been done. It's Disney for pete's sake. I will pray that she gets another opportunity at home to do something memorable like that...

I can understand to some degree if the restaurant doesn't have the confirmation number (and I am wondering if the ressie was for a different day, and maybe she'll get charged for a no-show?) That would be terrible.

However, the fact that she has advance cancer DOES mean something. There are times when accomodations should be made, and this was one of them. And really, for anyone with their confirmation number! A lot of people book these meals months in advance - I'd hate to be really looking forward to something, have it reserved, and be told that they didn't have a reservation for me, and no way to accomodate me.

I wish Disney would put dining reservations online - that way, guests could have a print-out to show the restaurants.

I wish it, too. I wonder why they don't.

Disney has really been behind the times on putting things online. I expect it will happen sometime, and it'd be nice if it was soon. It is possible for CM's to make a mistake on dates for a reservation - I know, because I did it once (at least) when i worked at DRC. And the guest wouldn't know if that happened, unless the CM realized it and contacted them.
