We are going to be in WDW over the Nights Of Joy weekend staying at the Pop Century. I'm starting to read about huge crowds and lots of them staying at our hotel. Anyone have any experience with this? How badly does this affect the crowds in the parks during normal hours? Will our hotel be insane? We are coming in on the 4th and leaving the 15th. Any info would be appreciated.

bump - anyone? I've tried doing a search here for other Night of Joy threads, but can't get the search engine to work and am really a little worried about this! TIA

Where did you read about 'huge' crowds?? I found out on Allears that this is a hard ticket event at the MK only. MK closes at 6 and NofJbegins at 7:30. I actually scheduled MK for that Saturday because I thought most touring people would avoid it since it closes so early and we plan to hop to another park after lunch......waddaya think of my strategy? Now I don't know if the NofJ people can enter the park on their ticket early or not. I did read on this board, a posting from a CM saying they seem to start showing up around 4ish. But since tickets sales are limited to a certain number, I wouldn't worry.....I'm not!!

We are doing something similar. I totally agree with you-I hope we are corrected if we are wrong. :teeth:

I guess my concern is do the NOJ people generally only go for that event, or do they take a week and flood the parks every day? I read on another thread from a NOJ person that they are staying for the week and that the NOJ people tend to stay at PC - where we will be. Just wondering if this is more an exception or the rule. I had understood from central reservations that a huge # of NOJ people are local and that tons of them are pretty rowdy teens - so I had really hoped to avoid them. Now I'm wondering what our hotel is going to be like at night if it is flooded with NOJ kids coming back late from MK?

I have actually been at DisneyWorld on the days of NOJ. All I can say is that a couple of hours before the concerts begin get out of MK! The participants are by and large well behaved but there are a whole bunch that act worse then a bunch of animals. Even though this is a "Christian" type thing the language on some of these people is horrid!

MK during the day before the concert- up to about maybe 4 or so is quite nice. The crowds are low and you should be able to go on any ride you want with little or no waiting.

The other parks,to me, don't seem to be affected one way or the other by the NOJ.

There are some participants who will be staying at Pop(and other values) but we didn't feel that the resort was over crowded or anything. We asked a CM about the NOJ before we reserved our Pop room and he said that a majority of NOJers stay off site or are local folks who have little or no need for the hotels.
Yes, some NOJers do stay for a week but they don't really seem to make the crowds more busy or rowdy. I think the actual concerts tend to give some people the license to act like jerks.

I thought I'd mention this tid bit: Last year as we were leaving to go to Epcot via monorail a monorail pulled up and Yikes! There were bumper to bumper people getting off the monorail. In all my years of going to Disney, I have never seen the monorail so packed. Do yourself a favor- leave MK about 4!

OOOOOOO, thanks a bunch, Fast Pass! We have an ADR at CP at 8 and we will 'get out of Dodge' (MK) around 2ish! It's a plan!!

Yikes! We have a Crystal Palace ressie for 5:10pm on the 9th. I assumed that the park would be dead by then. But that is the one character meal that all 4 of my children requested. We are huge Pooh fans here. I wonder if we should put CP on our LTT night, and then switch to Chef Mickeys for our last night?

I was planning to buy tickets to NOJ for my oldest son and I for my bday gift. But after reading about the poor behavior of the crowds we decided to skip it. :(
It is sad on many levels. We would have loved the music, and it is awful that a Christian event has such a bad reputation of poor behavior.

But we will be at POP and MK on those days too! I am a little concerned that the MK will be busy on Friday because of the preschool EMH, but think that Sat. should be good.

That's some really helpful information. We are planning on spending the day before NOJ at MK for EMH, then Epcot on Friday and MGM/Hotel Pool/ HDDR Saturday, so hopefully we will hardly notice they are there except for Thurs and Sun nights at Spectromagic and Wishes! I feel much better now!

I wouldn't worry too much about the behavior issue, I've been lots of times, and let my girls go by themselves (they are not a behavior problem), and I will admit the crowds are not typical Disney family crowds. They are mostly kids, so they're louder, a bit less respectful. It's kinda like when you get stuck in line with one of the tour groups full of kids, where they all wear the same color tee shirts. It's not that bad, if your expecting the diffrent crowds.

I also posted for you on your other post.

Well, thanks for responding to both!! I'm starting to relax a bit now - was just a little worried for a few minutes!
