We may get into Orlando a night before our Fort reservations. If that looks like it will happen I am going to try and get a night added but if I can't, does anyone have a recommendation on a campground close to Disney?

There is a KOA that is close to Disney is on Rt 192. My parents were looking into it as they are getting into town 2 days before our reservations starts. They opted for the KOA in Daytona as it will help with the time before they can check in at FW.

You can try calling Fort Wilderness and see if you can get in a day early. I've done this twice now in the winter because of weather up north causing us to leave early. Both times they have said yes come on in. Nothing better than an extra day at the Fort.

The KOA mentioned above is Kissimmee KOA. Have stayed there twice in the past. Very nice, clean and most are pull throughs you don't even have to unhook since you'd be leaving the next day.
Restaurants within walking distance, too.

KOA Fort Summit

Tropical Palms

Thousand Trails

Lake Magic

We like the North Beach Camp Resort on A1A at Vilano Beach, just a few miles north of St. Augustine. It's a two hour drive to the Fort, so a nice leisurely morning and you're still at WDW before noon.

We usually stay at the Daytona KOA the night before. We go for a swim at their gorgeous beaches, gather groceries, wine, beer and other supplies to stock the trailer (we drive from canada so have to buy most groceries in US to avoid border issues lol) and have a leisurely 1-1 1/2 hr drive to the fort.....

Which Daytona KOA do you stay at?? There are two in the area (one right down from the Speedway and the one on S. Nova Rd). My parents stay at the one on Nova Road when they stay the month or Feb. The Kamp hosts are super nice and very welcoming. It is also very easy to get onto I-4 from the campground. My parents opted to stay there the two days prior as it is $20 cheaper than Kissimmee right before Christmas (Dec. 18 and 19).

We like coming in from the north on 75 and usually stay at Ocala Sun RV Resort. They are right off 75 and have long pull through sites which are easy to get into later in the evening.
Its also not too far from the villages where some of the relatives live...

The one on South Nova Rd. Love it there. Last year we timed it wrong and hit Biketoberfest. Coming from Port Dover and our Fri the 13th rallies, we didn't think anything of it. Lol.

I would suggest you look into Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Florida. Only about 12 miles from Walt Disney World. You can then check into FW early the next morning without having to travel far at all. Plus, it is a very nice quiet state park and very inexpensive. We have stayed there and would drive the motorhome to the TTC parking lot to visit the parks during the day. Highly recommended.

I agree with this recommendation. In fact I wrote about it in my last trip report from April. It's post #89 on this page 6:

It's convenient for folks coming down I-75 then the Turnpike.
