Niece getting married in HI - how to go on a budget?

OP - my hats off to you for making this "demand appearance" work for you and your DH. I don't think I would have been nearly as gracious.

I've heard it is hard to us FF miles to HI. And, the flights for November have porblem been "open" since mid-December. Once you've got the wedding dates nailed down, I would get the flights booked ASAP. And, try to be a little flexible with the dates you are flying, that may help with the availability of FF seats.

I cannot offer any advice...I've not been to HI.

I am by far not a Hawaii expert, but I am very CHEAP:) We went this summer and stayed at the Park Shore Waikiki and got a pretty good deal. It is part of the Aqua chain of hotels and is right across from the beach. We had a small kitchen (microwave, sink, and fridge)

We also stayed at the Park Shore Waikiki this summer. We had an incredible room with a small balcony that overlooked both Diamond Head and Waikiki beach, and we paid about $90 a night. Our room had a small dorm size fridge, but no microwave. Some of the others in our group had rooms that were much smaller than ours, and some of the rooms are kind of dated, but they were all very clean. We did rent a car fairly inexpensively, but parking cost more than the cost of renting the car. However, it was a lot more convenient than trying to rely on the bus - especially if you want to go to the North Shore or other areas that are outside of the Honolulu/Waikiki area.
