Some of you might remember me. I posted a thread a while back that was quite depressing, and much to my surprise several of you PMd me and gave me what I would call, email notes that felt like cyber hugs of support.

Someone suggested Dr Phil's book. I didnt take her up on it right away, but 2 weeks ago I saw his show and he had his siblings on granted, they were what I would consider seriously obese and were in great danger of serious health problems. A nephew weighed close to 500lbs and 2 sisters were over 200lbs. i understand that losing weight for them is a little different than me. But I need to do something now, so that i am not faced with that challenge, and I do not envy anyone who has to alter travel plans, or life plans because of their physical size. I only wish them success.
Anyway, I went and bought his 2 books, the food guide and the Ultimate Weight Solution.

My husband decided to do it with me.

We are on the Rapid Weight Loss Program currently- Ive lost close to 7 pounds in the first week. Yesterday we went to a new church and then that evening a bible study in someone's home, not knowing we would be expected the second half of the time to eat and get to know others, we were introduced to a table of chocolate, my husband was suppose to be my supporter!! But his weakness for chocolate runs deep. We each ate 2 different kinds of brownies, plus a piece of chocolate cake (we actually did not try a vast majority of the items there!) I felt sick when we came home, we went for a rigorous walk last night (had already gone on one during the day) Ive been crampy and sick most of today.

For those of you who are not familiar with Dr Phil, his diet does not allow anything sweet, and no breads or processed carbs. Lots of fruit, veggies, and plain meat.
First I HATE salad, I did okay the first 2 days, but the third I was fighting that feeling of gagging while trying to get the salad down, I decided to make some different veggie choices after that. But I am happy to see that I have been having some success.

The night before the diet started i weighed 175lbs, I am 5'5". During the morning/day I am now at 167.5, at night I am about 168-169lbs.

We are leaving for Disney World May 5th. I would like to be at 160lbs by then. I have 15 days. I am not going to do anything extreme, just exercise 5 out of 7 days in a week, and keep following this. At the end of the rapid start, I think I will switch over to a cross between this diet and a WW diet, this way I can balance things a little, like swapping one dairy item for a WW ice cream. A far cry from Ben and Jerrys, but better than nothing at all.

I have to say other than today I have been feeling better too.

I know last time I went to WDW, in Aug, neither of us drank enough. I dont think I used a bathroom even once in the parks (we stayed at parks for the whole day) I was constipated for the first 4 or 5 days. And I did soooo much walking, I couldnt understand how I gained weight when i got home. Now looking back, I think it was not A. eating enough veggies and B. Not drinking enough water. I plan to do a lot more drinking of water on this next trip. I can eat salads or cold veggies, I just cant eat them everyday.

is anyone else walking in preperation for their trip? How many miles do you try and do each day before you go?

One thing I notice is that my DH walks faster than I do, and that can make me try to keep catching up to him- unconciously- Im going to try and stop doing that, and just walk at my own pace, if he gets too far away, he'll just have to slow down for me. Otherwise I will do that same thing as last time and keep pushing myself beyond what is good for my body, or enjoyable.

Cant wait to go, but really want to lose the weight first!! Ill like my swimsuit better if I do.

When I get back my goal weight is 150lbs- so I would only have another 10lbs to lose when I get back. Thats a really exciting thought to me!!!

But I really want to stay out of that rut where I get so depressed I dont want to get dressed in the morning. And the best way to do that is to keep losing. Im so happy that by increasing exercise to a reasonable amount (Im not killing myself on the treadmill, or doing the 45 minutes of aerobics) Im take the dogs for a nice brisk 1 mile walk each day, or maybe a go quick bike ride. Its hard on the days when weather is lousy- I really enjoy being outside, the treadmill is such a boredom to me. No, music doesnt make it better, and theres no TV, I hung a tack board with some WDW postcards as inspiration, but that only worked the next 2 or 3 times I got on, now I think "nice post cards, cant wait to go, man, is 20 min up?-Nope, still have 18 more to go" LOL.

But Im gonna keep trying!!!

How about getting the Disney Magazine and reading while on the treadmill? Or going to the Travel Agent and getting some brochures if you don't like to read, you can look at the pictures. Just a thought to pass the time. Watching tv really does help with the boredom. Any chance you can get a portable tv to plug in by your treadmill? Sometimes I forget the time when I am interested in something. It really helps pass the time. You sound like you are doing great with your eating. Dr. Phil's program sounds a little like the SouthBeach diet. Good luck.

no, no space for a tv and I cant read when Im on the treadmill. Ive tried. no place to rest a book, I have to hold it and I dont have any fudge room on this machine if Im not paying attention. I really dont bother with it at all, unless its pouring, I feel like my outdoor walks are more "real" exercise. Im not really looking for ways to change the treadmill- its more of a backup for emergencies. LOL.

Thanks so much for posting! Its great to have some conversations with folks.

Hi Nicole!

Congratulations on that 7 pound weight loss. :jumping1: Having a big loss in the beginning is a great motivator. ::yes::

I'm in the process of reading Dr. Phil's book as well. It's slow going for me, though, because of my DS who doesn't seem to understand when I'm in the middle of an important chapter. I'll cut him a break, though, since he's only 9-months-old. :teeth:

Having your husband join you in your efforts will make this process much easier. If you're like me, the competition will be an extra motivator.

Good luck with your efforts! I'm sure you'll be looking fabulous for your trip! ::yes::

I am soooo glad to see some Dr. Phil people here! Sometimes I feel out of place with the Atkins crowd! 7 pounds is a great loss! Pat yourself of the back! 150 will be here in no time. I had to laugh about your treadmill trials. I am the same way...is it time yet, am I finished. LOL!

I just started 4/19 with the Rapid Weight Loss, hope my loss is as good as yours! I need to drop about 50 pounds to be comfortable. Hope I see you around and good luck to you!

Melissa

7 pounds gone - YAY!!!! You've made a great start!

Best wishes for continued success! :sunny:

Hey There! Thanks for coming and posting!
I was just telling DH that the first week was really hard for me, I craved carbs and cookies and doughnuts (dont know why, I dont often get to eat them!) but now, I am having no problems, I do get a little tired of eating lots of "plain stuff" but I know its good for me. Its been getting easier, but the scale hasnt moved much in the past 3 days and before it was moving every night. My husband has kind of tabled off a little too, I know, I know, its natural.

More rigorous exercise is what I suspect will move the scale- I am at home all day with 2 dogs who adore going for walks, but HEY! IM PLANNING A WDW VACATION HERE!!! and that takes time...

good grief, it took me 3 hours comparing, deciding on whether or not I should rent a car on our trip. I finally decided to cancel the sedan and rent a car, its only about $50 more and we have it for the whole week. But MAN! Did it take a long time, first I had to figure out how to sign up for National's Emerald Club, without paying the $50 fee- went to www.mousesavers.com and went through the Turner Travel link, but it kept stopping when I would hit the submit button, I finally got that to work, then on to plugging in dsvarious code combinations, to get the best rate, 3 hours later I called DH at work to offer all the new info and get his vote. Which was to go ahead and get the car, so I went to do that and I got a pop up upgrade note- but then the site wouldn't generate the page- I called technical support and they knew nothing about it- clueless people!

How am I suppose to lose weight, nevermind find a job if I have to plan this trip, I am getting very close and I have not done laundry and started packing yet- should I? I am home everyday after all- with no kids. I consider it a mini vacation- but DIS Boards suck you in.

I did manage to go out and plant 6 Stargazer Lilly bulbs earlier today with the dogs and the cat. I hate getting dirt in my nails- which is funny, cause I never saw myself as a namby-pamby kind of person. Hey, I have 2 big dogs- doesnt that say something good about me?

Back to the dieting, I did come up with the idea of switching a dairy item for a WW ice cream saucer- I only did it once.

My 14 days are up this coming Monday, but I plan to take a break on Sat- going on a special day trip with a large group of friends and I want to eat some real food- like pizza. I dont plan to go totally off Dr Phils, I just want to enjoy some yummier (my own word) food that day.

The 150 seems like it will be harder to reach than I thought by May 5th.

I wonder if all the walking at WDW will counter act the food I eat- I learned from last time that water is a HUGE deal when at the parks. That and I was constipated for the first 4 days I was there- I think Dr Phil's really keeps your whole body healthy, it starts off every day with a high fiber cereal and fruit and protein.

well its almost 5 and I have not had lunch- I better go eat!

Well this morning I got on the scale and it read 166.6- now I know mornings are ALWAYS better than nights as far as the scale is concerned...but the evening before I started the Rapid Weight Loss program it read 175- that was Easter Sunday, a week and half ago. So thats cool.

I swapped my "dairy" item for a WW lowfat ice cream this afternoon. It was nice to have a little treat. i didnt eat lunch today- I know bad for the metabolism. I dont think I drank all the water I was suppose to, I think I have more like 6 or 7 glasses and Im suppose to have 8-10, but Im not about to try and catch up now and wake up 5 times while Im sleeping!!

i did not go for a walk today- and it was nice out!!!

I spent 2 hours job searching
1 hour watching Peter Pan (its been years)
2 hours reading a good book
30 min grocery shopping
2 hours (off and on) cleaning, laundry, etc
and surfed the DIS- I really have no excuse for not going for a walk!
Perhaps I should go every morning right after breakfast- get my body moving.
Right now since my DH is on the same diet with me I have been getting up to make him breakfast at 7:30-which really sucks when I have no other reason to get up quite that early. I didnt get up this morning. But Ill make his lunch before I go to bed. Or I could ask him to make his own....he is capable.
Wow, its only 9, good maybe I will make it an early night.

Heres the thing, getting to that 160 in 12 days seems impossible. Did I set a goal too high for myself? I wanted to be at 150 when I thought my weight was 170ish- meaning I would only have 10lbs to lose......i cant quit though, I gotta keep trying to lose weight before the trip, if I quit than I will never make it to the 150 goal I have- but am now realizing maybe that goal should be 145- that would be better- yes as I write this I am feeling better, I can do this!

I dont think I want to be 100% on this diet, but a combination, knowing I need to be aware of when I indulge, and that I need to compesate, by exercising more or not eating other things- like a Dr Phil meets Weight Watchers. ;)

Wow I had to drag myself over here, but I feel better now. It helped reading some of the posts congratulating me on the 7 pound loss- its nice when you have friends (even cyber ones) who cheer for you!

Think Ill go cheer for somebody else right now!!!!

okay, kinda bummed but last night it looks like I gained 2 of my 7 pounds back- very frustrating and to make matters worse I ate a big mac and fries at McDonald's today.

Good news: Advair is really making a difference and I have had no asthma problems since I started it a month ago.

I got on my treadmill and powerwalked for 30 minutes/1.60 miles this afternoon.

Bad: I am not going to reach my goal of 160 by next wednesday- as of last night, I basically weigh 170- ugh! And to think I was only off the diet for 2 days. Ugh! Whats WDW gonna be like?

Im going to try and continue ramping up my exercise until I leave, going further everyday, tomorrow I think I should do 2 miles and at least 45 minutes. Maybe get on in the morning and then go for a walk or, depending on weather, get on again late in day.

I have a job interview at 3pm, otherwise I am open, makes me realize I have had several weeks to be more aggresive about my exercise and I have been doing the bare minimum, if that. Grrrrr.

Started pulling out clothes for packing, DH helped me buy a new bikini this weekend- comes with these cool mesh pants, too bad you cant swim with the pants on! LOL!

Hi Eyeore4ever-
You are doing great- it took me over 2 weeks to lose 7 pounds. One thing that I find helpful is to only weigh my self once a week beacuse my weight really fluctuates day to day but if I only do it every 7 days that gives me a good idea of what is really going on with my weight.
It sounds like you have a good plan. After you're closer to your goal with Dr. Phil I think you will find WW is an easy way to maintain a healthy weight- you don't really have to deprive yourself of anything you like as long as you use moderation. I don't think you will lose as quickly with WW as you would with your diet.
Good luck with everything!
mary

Hi Nicole!
You've offered me a bunch of encouragement, so heres a little repayment. Keep doing what your doing!!! The healthier eating, more exercise and more water is really VERY good for you. And remember, you didn't put this weight on overnight, so its not gonna come off overnight!!! We ALL want the quick fix, but it is just not there! We need to work hard at this weight loss - treat it seriously if we plan on making it! We are in it for the long haul. Understand that you will not be OP 100% of the time. Then let it go and get back OP ASAP!!!
I see you are very concerned about WDW. Like you said, drink plenty of water and then make smart food choices. Eat a healthy, OP meal and then treat yourself to a ice cream later. But don't have the high fat meal AND the ice cream, then you should be okay. All the walking you will do will help to counteract the treats you allow yourself. Remember, it is vacation, so don't stress too much about the weight while there. And then when you get home, get right back OP!!:smooth:
I hope you have good results before you leave so you will have some extra incentive to stay true to yourself.
Enjoy this beautiful weather we are having and get OUTSIDE this week!!!!:sunny: :sunny:
TTFN-
Sharon

 Bicole,
You are doing a great job. It seems like Dr Phil really works for you. Keep up the great work. Can you try listening to a book on tape while walking outside or on the treaddie. Our library has a supply, and it keeps me more interested than music. Good luck on that job interview.

Beth

Nicole- keep up the good work-
SharonCity gave you some great advice- She is so right- you can't be OP 100% just try your best and when you slip off program get right back on.
And it will be very hard to be OP while on vacation- clearly you are not going to have all the nutritional info available for everything you eat- just make the best choices you can and have a few treats. (I mean how often in life do you have the chance to eat a Mickey bar?) If there is one goal that you can maintain while at WDW it should be this- WATER- drink your water everyday- take water bottles into the parks with you- and drink 8-10 ounces before each meal. Drink water all day long. (Sorry but you will be in the bathroom alot.)
Then get moving with your plan when you are home again.
As for your 150 pound goal by May 5- that is very ambitious and I think weight loss that is that rapid is probably unhealthy. Please don't let it discourage you if you can't do it- I think it would be hard to do that even by June 5.
I want to hear all about POFQ when you get back because we are staying there in June. (Shhh, it's a surprise for my kids)
HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!!!

Hi There, Well, Im back. And I now weigh more- I was at 178 right after Thanksgving, I about died, it has been a while since I got on the scale. I did start upping my water intake this week and that helped me drop maybe 1 or 2 pounds. Mornings I am around 175. I couldn't believe I just read some of my old posts and I used to be 166!!! OMG!!! I getting worse not better!!!!!

This MUST stop. I MUST lose weight!! My "big" pants are now fitted. I CAN NOT go beyond a size 12.

Im going to start posting here more and keep track.

Yesterday was bad, I missed breakfast, ate lunch at 3 and had McDonalds, I was so hungry I ate a med fry, big mac, fish o filet and 2 apple pies!!!
Dinner- Denny's-eggs with cheese, and toast that was buttered.

I joined a bellydancing aerobics class at the gym I joined, its every Monday. But I need to do more than once a week excercise.

I am STILL not working, so I really have no excuse not to walk- and I have 2 Labs who would LOVE to go.

Im feeling low about the weight, but determined.

Thanks, its frustrating, and stinks to be fat at the holidays when everybody is going to see me. Especially because my family is VERY body consious.
