We are super excited but now momma is trying to learn about the area. Does anyone have any tips of good areas to live, good places to eat, places to avoid.... He needs to start looking for a place to live.

I'm sorry, but you kind of just jumped in as if everyone knows your situation. Is Nick your son? What is LECOM? Is there a reason Nick isn't researching the area himself?

A quick google search says it is a school of osteopathic medicine in PA, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

I have to agree with CarolAnn. If your son made it to med school, does he really want Momma still researching his apartment and restaurants for him? Are you planning a congratulatory party that you might need suggestions for gift cards for surrounding restaurants?

Oh, and congratulations to your son.

Edited to add that I saw that Nick is in your signature listed as your son.

Signatures often don't appear on phones, which is how many people read boards. And I find it odd to expect others to have to Google when she just could have written it out. I guess you missed it, and I was trying to be gentle, but my point was that it's usually polite to give a little background instead of expecting others to decipher a post.

Since the school is near Pittsburgh, and near the WV border, I'd look at Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau for information about that area, and then I'd check some local real estate places and ask about rentals in the area.

Also, I am sure the school has information about where to find housing.

Looks like a nice town where coal and the railroads helped create the town.

Its very nice, I have been there many times. There is on campus housing and plenty of places to rent nearby. Plenty of places to eat nearby. Lots of nice places to go hiking and into the mountains not far off. I was just past that area hiking not long ago.

Yes he is my son... Sorry didn't know my signature doesn't show on phones, I don't look at the boards on my phone. I didn't think it would be too hard to look up LECOM if you weren't sure about it. If someone lives in the area or nearby they already would know. (Like knowing OSU is The Ohio State University if you live in Ohio) He is researching it himself also. However, not being from that area he is not aware of areas to avoid. We all know of places that look fabulous online, and even seem great the first time you visit the area, but once you live there you find out that the area sucks.

Thank you! He is checking out some places near campus. We are having to do most of this online though so when we take a trip over we will probably have a day to find housing. I know that if a parent/student asked about certain areas in Columbus I would tell them straight up they are not safe areas to live in. Our friends did that when someone we knew was heading to Cincinnati to go to school. They also gave suggestions for great places to eat.

It does look super nice! I do have feelers out to some Raeltors in the area too. I know they have to be careful about what they say though. So I am looking for honest answers about the area. He has found a couple places that look like good possibilities. Just praying they are as nice as they sound!

I grew up in Greensburg back when Seton Hill was all girls. I have not spent much time there in the past few years since my mother passed away. There are plentiful places to eat and shop if he has a car. The Laurel Mts are lovely and Pittsburgh is about 40 minutes away. Congrats to your son!

Oh, I am so sorry, I wasn't trying to one up you. I was actually agreeing with everything you said. I didn't see the signature until later when I logged in to my laptop.

Hi! I went to grad school there and have lived/worked in the area for years. Feel free to private message me for details. I don’t want to post info publicly.

Sent you a message...at least I think I did it correctly.

The only things I know about Seton Hill is that it is on the other side of the state as my house and it doesn't have a marching band. My daughter researched the college as an option for Music Therapy degree, and decided against it due to it's location and lack of marching band.

It reminds me of my college: Moravian. Small, private, cozy, very expensive. I hope he has fun!

And some of us have signatures turned off to due long load times, how distracting they can be, etc.

I haven't had my signature thing on in a couple of years. For me, it makes my DISing experience much less cluttered.

OP, congrats to your son. :)
