Nick hotel-too expensive!

I called AAA to make a reservation for me and she said that the hotel was charging $166 for a suite and $185 if I wanted to cancel. That really makes me mad that you have to pay more money to cancel a reservation. At $166 I cannot cancel no matter what. What a rip!!

Most hotels now have this option. You can choose teh higher rate if there's a chance you'll want to cancel. If you choose teh lower rate, it's like Priceline, you are stuck pretty much no matter what. I see no problem with this, and think that you are getting a good bargain for a suite.

I agree - especially with the sale Buenva Vista Suites is having - 2 room Queen suites for $79.

You can stay onsite a Universal for $169.

I'd look at LBV Suites. I think that is too expensive too, especially when NH is not even connected to a park.

I will also agree with Ducklite, that many hotels offer this option although many will not voluntarily offer it. We used it for Mandalay Bay in Vegas. It is called a NONREFUNDABLE rate and we thought it was an awesome deal for a 1 bedroom Suite! I was told that if I cancelled, I would have a non expiring credit with the hotel.

if you want a suite, did you look at the Holiday Inn owned Staybridge suites on Palm Parkway.

Before they got "special" and became the Nick hotel, back in 12/03, we had a 2 br suite with a mural of WDW on the kid's room wall for $73 TOTAL. We'll never stay there again at the new, "we're so proud of ourselves" prices.

We also stayed there in December of 2003 for $73 a night and greatly enjoyed ourselves. As soon as we knew when we wore going back I checked the prices for January 2006 and was shocked at what I found. NO WAY NO HOW would I pay the price of around $160 a night to stay there I mean it was nice, but it wasn’t’ THAT nice.

Add us to the people who stayed there before they got all 'nickified' and shot the prices through the roof.

It used to be a very good value, and now it's not.

I just booked a room for a weekend in September for $162/night-AAA discount rate. (regular rate was $179-that is the only available discount.) I was told that I have a 3 day cancellation policy....? No mention of a cancellation rate vs. non cancellation rate.)( And I am not one to go extravagant, when we go to WDW, it's Pop Century during value season.. But my logic is that they have those two huge pools with all the slides and things to do, that for 4 people, admission to water parks/shows/Nickjcharacters would more than cover the difference in price for another hotel. We will stay at that hotel the entire time, possibly going over to DTD for dinner..(I just couldn't go to Orlando and not set foot into WDW, could I??) I am using my "kitty" money (change collected, and odd dollars thrown in a coffee can...), so it won't even be a noticable expense. I think my DS5 and DS7 are gonna love it-their favorite things-Spongebob and water....weeeeeee!!!!!

I just can't tell DH about it ahead of time...it's going to be a "mystery trip"!

Our family also stayed there in 2003 and loved it. BUT like most, we will NOT be returning after the huge price hike. We have discovered pool homes and we are thrilled with it.

I tried booking for Feb 14th to Feb 17th and I found the cheapest price to be $225. If I wanted a Spongebob room it was $20. on top of that price. Thank you very much I will book my 3 nights at Pop for $267. It just is not worth it.

I think it's all in what you are looking for. Yes you can get a room at a value resort cheaper. Of course if there are five in your family then a room at POR is not that much cheaper. Also I agree with the poster that said if you add in what a water park would cost for a day you come out better at the Nick hotel. When we went we stayed for two nights and basically just used the hotels as entertainment. We didn't go into Disney until we left the Nick Hotel and checked into Disney. The only time we left the Nick was when we went to Downtown Disney for dinner. My kids had a ball there and loved the Nick games and entertainment.

I'm going in 2 weeks for my daughter's 8th bday. We're going to be there for 2 nites and I gave her this choice or a bday party (which normally costs 300-400 anyway). Since we'll be going after dh's work- we'll do the entertainment the first nite, then we will be doing the pool/ hotel entertainment for the next day- then probably go to city walk or DTD the 2nd nite since I've read so much about how horrible the food is. Because we are staying 2 nites in Sept we get the Character breakfast on monday morning for free. We have leftover passes from seaworld for the last day so all in all this works out well for my family. Both of my daughters (5 & 8) love Nick so this will be a blast for them. And having the day to lounge at the pool with so much for the kids to do is great for dh & me. We did a weekend at POFQ last year for her bday and it was a disappointment. MK was too hot/crowded and mousekeeping was horrible. So I am looking forward to my kids loving this place. I did not pay the extra $20 a nite for spongebob- I've made it a guessing game to see which character is featured in their room!

I got the cheapest room available, the king bed with sofa sleeper. I am thinking (hoping) that at check-in, I will try to get a free upgrade to a SB room-any thoughts on that possibility? Anyway, I am so excited about this trip, it doesn't matter. I agree that this is a very expensive hotel, but I wouldn't even consider using it for anything other than staying there and enjoying the pools and entertainment. It would be a waste of money to stay there and drive/taxi over to WDW...

It's expensive, but we are staying one night at the end of our vacation. We will spend the entire day after disembarking from our cruise at the hotel and pool/water park. DS is sooooo looking forward to it. This will actually be our cheapest day of vacation since we will not do parks, etc.

I don't know that we will ever go again, but this is a one time "gift" to the kids. My gosh, it's on TV all the time, so we'll go - once!

I will also pre-pay for the lower price since I know we will not be cancelling.

I hate to say this about any hotel.

but if your kids are disappointed don't be surprised.

I have yet to see a real good review about this place, since it changed its name.

there are much, much cheaper alternative.

the pool can't even compare to disney's best - BC/YC - SALB.

It also can't compare to the pools at Universal. and you are almost paying Universal's prices. with no FOLE at US.

Well that was my question I don’t care how much they try to elevate their status to Nic Hotel etc, the proof will be in the reviews and I yet to see reviews that said it was worth the prices they charge now to stay there. I mean their pools would have to be unbelievable to compare to Disney’s water parks and from what I heard they not all that.

Also from what I remember it was a huge hotel and I find it hard to believe that they able to book anywhere close to capacity at these prices.
