We are hoping to stay at the Nick hotel in between our 2 days at Universal. We will be at the parks most of the day so we would miss the characters during the day. When I called the hotel, they said there were characters out at night. Is this true, because I thought I read here somewhere that the characters are only out during the day and infrequent at that? What have been your character experiences? Also, is the character breakfast worth it? Or will we see the characters plenty the night before?

We were there at the end of March and they were not out at night while we were there. The main court (where they appear during the day) was a zoo at night and it is hard to imagine adding to that with characters. There was a character (Squidward) at check in though.

The interaction with the characters during the day was fine. There were in the main court area from about 12:30 to 3 p.m. The lines weren't long and the characters rotated. My kids were happy!

We did not do the character breakfast although I had originally scheduled it and then cancelled. I had heard bad things about it in general (powdered eggs, no thanks, especially at that price!) Since we saw the characters plenty for us, I was glad we didn't do it. Also, with refrigerators in the rooms, going out to breakfast wasn't necessary.

We were there in Feb/Mar this year and there were no characters out at night. If I remember correctly, they are scheduled from 1-3 daily in the Mall area and they are also around at check-in.

We were planning on the Character Breakfast but ultimately choose not to do it after reading the reviews here on the DIS! The regular buffet breakfast ended up being a great deal for our family with the Kids Eat Free program! ;)

Unless you are getting a really great rate, I don't think it is worth it to stay here if you can't be at the hotel during the day. I did a review of our stay recently. It is an expensive hotel if you can't take advantage of the facilities and activities during the day.

We never saw characters at night.
