Nick Characters?

I have friends heading to Florida at the end of the week and plan on going to Universal for a day. Thier son said something about seeing Nick characters. His mom then asked me if there were any. I do not know as I have never been to Universal.
Since they are leaving so soon I do not have time to do a lot of research for them. The children are 7 (ds) and 12 (dd). Here a few questions I have

Should they stick with one park since it is for one day and if so which one?
Will their ds see any Nick characters and if so where should they look?
Is there any type of character meals?

Most of the Nick characters are at the Studios...they are pretty much everywhere so seeing characters and getting autographs is pretty easy to do.
