My family and I are about to book a Disney trip for Dec 2nd 2005 - Dec 7th 2005 and have chosen CSR for our stay. It will be our first time at this resort and I was hoping to get some advice from some past guests as to what is the nicest area- the Casitas, Ranchos, or Cabanas?
It is so hard to tell by the photos on the website which is the most elegant of the 3 sections.
Thanks so much for any insight!
Petra

I am sure some of the CSR experts will jump in here, but I think the Casitas are the most elegant of the sections. It is near the main building. I think the cabanas (most centrally located) and Ranchos (closest to Dig Site Pool etc) are much more casual looking on the exterior. My guess is that the room interiors do not differ a lot.

We stayed in both Ranchos and Casitas and I would say though both were really nice. We preferred Casitas though-so pretty! :sunny:

I prefer not to be in the Casitas, which, while pretty, frequently have seemed a bit louder to me than the ranchos (my favorite because of the dry river bed) or the cabanas. Others have obviously had different experiences, though!

I have stayed in the Casitas and the Cabanas. If you want a beach resort feel with sandy beaches and hammocks, stay in the Cabanas. If you want an old city feel with fountains, walkways and topiaries stay in the casitas.
The Ranchos sections have lots of cactus and rocks, like a dessert.
The rooms are all the same except for maybe the beadspreads.

I prefer the casitas myself, but any of the areas are great. CSR is our favorite hotel at WDW, you will have a great time in which ever section you stay in. Make sure to plan some time for the dig site pool, its one of the best in WDW. :sunny:

Casitas looked the nicest to me. I wish we would have switched to them instead of the Ranchos, but I wanted to be closer to the pool.

Thank you everyone!
I really appreciate the advice- This is our second family trip to WDW. Thank you for helping me make it as special as I can!
Have a great night,
Petra

It all comes down to what you want. Check out pics of all the sections on my CSR website below.

cabana 9b is close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site over the wooden bridge

cabana 8a is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building.

cabana 8b and 9a are inbetween the 2 above.

Cabana rooms are mostly waterview rooms or non parking lot views.

ranchos 7b has a quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. 7b is behind cabana 8a.

The casitas are close to the gym, spa and have great fountains and courtyards. casita 5 is close to the Dig Site with a good walk to the main building. The lower the casita number the closer towards the main building.

I would not consdier any area nicer, just depends on the style you like and the location. We have stayed Casitas & Ranchos, and preferred Ranchos. Casitas were pretty (city style) and closer to main building. Ranchos are closest to Dig Site and the desert style, it was really creative and alittle more private away from main building. Cabanas are the beach style and also closer to the main building, but had the tropical open feel to them. Maybe we will try them next :sunny:

ps If I did Casitas again, I would ask for a room closer to the Dig Site or by the quiet pool.

We've stayed in Casitas and Ranchos. For our first CSR stay, I requested Casitas, and I really thought it would be our favorite based on the theming and the location. I expected that it would be a quiet area since it had more of an adult look and feel, and I thought we'd be surrounded by convention-goers. I requested a room close to the quiet pool. Well, I got everything I requested - and we were really disappointed. The "quiet" pool was anything but quiet, full of noisy teens and pre-teens until late in the night. Now, I have 2 teens of my own, but they weren't out at the quiet pool making noise at night. We also heard a lot of noise from our neighbors, from people walking by and from people in the courtyard. Plus, the feel was a lot "colder" than I expected. And the location wasn't nearly as convenient as I expected - still quite a walk to everything.

We liked the overall resort though, so we decided to stay again in a different location. We requested Ranchos, hoping that it would be quieter and being fully prepared to be far from everything. Ranchos ended up exceeding all our expectations! Not only was our room extremely quiet (never heard another guest the whole week) it was not nearly as inconveniently located as we expected. We were very close to both a quiet pool and the Dig Site (which is awesome!). And while the main building was quite a trek, we actually enjoyed the early morning stroll to fill up our coffee mugs. Plus, the bus stop was much closer to our building than the one at Casitas had been. We even liked the theming of Ranchos much better once we actually saw it - it had a very warm and relaxing feel.

I have previously stayed at all of the moderate and value WDW resorts. Last December, my husband and I finally stayed at CSR. We requested Cabanas 9B because by the map, it looks closest to the main bus stop as well as to the Peppermarket (CSR's food court--which is awesome!) We were in a very quiet area of the resort and best of all, very close to the bus stop (which is especially nice after a long day at the parks!) We were about equal distance from the main pool. I would definitely request Cabanas 9B again...and CSR is now our favorite of the moderate and value resorts. I think the Ranchos would be my last choice, it seems the farthest away from everything and even the Casitas didn't seem that close. As far as "niceness", all 3 areas seem equal, just styled slightly different. Hope this helps, but no matter where you are, I'm sure you'll love the resort!
