Nicest Hotel You Ever Stayed At

Probably the Ritz Carlton in Aruba?

Not me, but my mom stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Signapore for a business trip and she told me that she felt extremely under dressed walking around that hotel.

Best Lobby: Grove Park Inn, Asheville

Favorite Overall: Hotel del Coronado

(both paid for by work, so even better b/c free)

What are some of your faves?

My wife and I stayed at the Grove Park Inn for our honeymoon. We loved it! We really enjoyed the historical tour of the property. We stayed in one of the newer wings; I think it was built in the 1980's. I would like to go back sometime and stay in the original main inn.

This post had me going down a rabbit hole!

The Arch London. We stayed there years ago for an anniversary vacation, and it is (was) my favorite of all time. Service, cleanliness, dining, everything was top notch! I always knew when I returned to London this was my hotel of choice. I couldn't remember if it was the The Marble Arch or Arch London Hotel so I went to Trip Advisor so I could see my old review. Only to discover it was gone! Oh no, only means one thing, it's no longer there. I finally figured out it was The Arch London (a lot of hotels with similar names) because it was in Marylebone. That's when I learned it was sold in 2019 to Prince Hotels of Japan. It is now The Prince Akatoki. :sad1: So bummed. I absolutely adored that hotel.

Westgate Hotel, San Diego. Stayed for work, lovely.

Most overrated hotel:

Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii. Definitely not 5 star. Granted this was April 2021, but absolutely not up to standards. Too many complaints to mention on here, we were refunded half of our bill it was that bad.

Probably the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong followed by Rosewood Mayakoba (though this stay was 10 years ago - not sure if it has kept the same level of service - was pretty impeccable back then).

Omni Homestead Resort (Warm Springs, VA) was absolutely fantastic. We did the tea service, spa day pass, and falconry class and everything was amazing.

On the smaller budget side, we love The Inn at Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge, TN. We love a strongly themed hotel. The breakfast was excellent, fresh cookies in the lobby, and Santa singing Christmas carols for the kids with a thick Southern accent ,😂

The nicest hotel I stayed at was Hotel Mar Monte in Santa Barbara and my mom and I stayed there while Dad was at a business meeting and it was a wonderful hotel that had ocean views from each balcony and they had a good restaurant but we never ate there because Dad would bring back takeout food when he would return and he would bring us breakfast every morning before he left for work. We had to cut our time there short because our room nearly got flooded and they wanted all the guests to leave because it was really stormy and Dad's meeting was cancelled too. But the funniest thing that happened there was when there was a power outage on the day we were leaving and all the housekeepers were paranoid and freaking out and screaming and my mom and I were giggling like crazy when we saw this happen. But if you get the chance to visit Santa Barbara you should check out Hotel Mar Monte because it's wonderful

I don't know if I can pick a favorite, but high on the list are Lost Iguana in Costa Rica, Galaxy Hotel in Greece, and Ippoliti Hotel in Greece. All were beautiful, great locations, wonderful breakfasts.

I think the one that sticks out the most in my memory is Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve. We stayed in the tiger lodge and it was incredibly cool seeing the tiger walk up to the windows, put his paws up, etc. There was a wood heated tub outside and the tiger walked by that several times while we were in it.

Anegada Beach Club was also quite a place to stay. We booked one of their glamping tents, this one had two tubs out on the deck. There were bathroom facilities attached to the tent, queen bed, a couch that converted to a bed for our daughter to sleep on.

Fairmont Pacific Rim was pretty fancy!

The Mount Washington Hotel was the biggest disappointment especially for the money.
Years ago, it was pretty grand. Last summer, it felt very neglected.

The Brown Palace in Denver a looong time ago stuck with me. More recently the Hilton Budapest Castle Hill was a nice hotel in a wonderful location.

Ooooh! Tell us more!

I do not generally pay for super nice hotels. It is just not important to me. I need clean, a comfortable bed, and free breakfast is nice. Thinking back, when graduating from college and interviewing for jobs, DuPont put me up in the Hotel DuPont. I was only there for one night. The nicest Orlando places I have stayed are Portofino Bay at Universal and once at the Grand Floridian.
