I have a family member that wants to go to Disney world next Dec (2013) it would be the 1st week. 2 adults 2 children ages 9 & 5 at that time. They are going to be on a tight budget and are looking to stay off property for a week. Do you guys have any recommendations on a good clean hotel that offers breakfast and is affordable for a week also semi close to the main gate? We’ve only ever stayed on property so I can’t help them but I know many of you stay off site. Thanks in advance for all the help. :thumbsup2

Try the lake buena vista area. we have had good success with the Clarion (budget) and the Embassy Suites (better). The Hampton Inn was good too. Its a good area and close with lots of food options.

Agree w Herbie. Buena Vista is where you want to be. Could we narrow down a little more what a "tight budget" means (just a ballpark)? That would help for more specific recommendations. Good news is there are hotels at most every price point in that area so shouldn't be a problem finding one.

I'm not sure what their budget is. I just know they were looking to stay off site. So I'm guessing rooms under 90 since that's close to what a the all start hotels are.

By has breakfast do you mean that they offer a free continental breakfast? I am a huge fan of the free breakfast when travelling anywhere because it saves so much TIME in the morning and it may be key for saving money. Your relative is driving so maybe an inexpensive hotel with a fridge might be a good option?

Do you know how it works for parking at the park? I saw a $15 a day fee posted so that may be a good reason to swing them to a value if they have to pay that fee everyday. I believe the values have fridges now so they could bring breakfast items with them to save money.

That being said, we stayed somewhere in PA I can't remember the hotel chain but they were listed on the web as having a continental breakfast and they did but they charged for it. Just saying if money is tight it's worth calling and double checking whether breakfast is included or not.

Hi!
I am actually in Orlando right now and we are staying at the Extended Stay Deluxe Suites - Lake Buena Vista and it is very nice for the price. We used PriceLine and paid only $38 a night (we normally stay on site). There are two queen Beds a Couch (that can be pulled out to another bed) a Tv/dvd player. Each room had a table/desk and a full on kitchen area with a Fridge, Dishwasher, microwave, stove. There are two closets and much larger than the Value hotels. The only downside I have found is the size of the bathroom but the sink/vanity is diconnected which is nice. We are right next to DTD (its a Good Neighbor Hotel).
They have a free breakfast with Cereal, Coffee, Juices, hardboiled eggs, muffins, donuts, waffles, english muffins, instant oatmeal ect... They also provide shuttles to Disney (which let off in Epcot).

Hope this helps!

I have stayed here when we drive - we come in a day earlier and book this place every year for 1 night - Think I have got a suite in the 60s per night, Great free breakfast, great pool..outstanding reviews on tripadvisor too..I recommend it

One thing to keep in mind, they will have to pay for theme park parking (unless they have annual passes, and it sounds like they don't) *and*, if they are flying in, will almost certainly want a rental car. Once you add in those costs to the mix, the Value rooms plus relying on Disney transportation start to look a lot more appealing---and if they are planning this far in advance, they will almost certainly have some discounts that could apply to their visit too. If they are driving down anyway, then offsite starts to look better.

They are driving. To me it's better to stay on site (I like that once I park my car I don't have to drive anymore) but they are pretty set on staying off site.
