Please help! I am now pretty sure I want to cancel our Acapulco Beach excursion.... especially after hearing the posts on the water. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a hotel that has a day rate and a really nice pool? We would also like suggestions on where to eat lunch. We will probably head back to the ship for late seating dinner, and before it gets dark..... PLEASE HELP!!!! I'm so glad to have you all hear with your experience!

Try the Mayan Palace. I stay there 2 weeks every year and it is wonderful. It is rated one of the top 5 timeshares in the world. They have one of the biggest pools in the world with lots of activities. They wait on you wherever you go on the property. There is a golf course, water park(small one) paddle boats and other things for you and/or kids. Check with the cruise line to see if they can get you a day pass. I have seen others with day passes from cruise lines.

Mayan Palace it is then for our family! Wouldn't we call the hotel for the day pass? Can you tell me how far away it is from the port? We are struggling also on what to do in Acapulco :confused3

Thanks!
Deb

I now know a bunch of us STRUGGLING with what to do in Acapulco. I looked in to Mayan Palace. It looks beautiful, but, it appears to be an hour away from the ship. I read the excursion for the golfing at Mayan Palace, and it says there is a one hour drive. ??? That would probably be pretty expensive for 6 people. I don't know who to contact to see how much a day pass would be. I wonder why it's not a disney excursion if there is golf there..... any thoughts on how we would get there?

I don't know where exactly the port is but a $10.00 cab ride should do it. You can negotate with the cab driver and always make sure in Mexico that you have a set price before you get in the cab. There are no set prices by the companies. The cliff divers are there and they are free. There is a chapel on top of the mountain that is worth going to for the view of the entire city that you get from it. Do not go to the open air market as it is not cheap and is dangerous(if you do go you will notice that your cab driver never leaves your side). The water is not purified in most of the city so make sure or drink bottled water and watch what you eat. The MP has purified water.

I got the hour ride from the description on the golfing at the mayan palace excursion sponsored by DCL. It may be a scenic ride, but, it clearly states an hour ride there, and an hour ride back. I am glad to hear it's not an hour ride because it looks so nice there. Thank you for the idea!

Well, I just called Mayan Palaces customer service 800#, and they said there is no way to get a day pass to the resort. I am so bummed. Back to the drawing board...... PLEASE.... if you know differently, or have any other ideas, let all of us who want something to do in Acapulco know!

We are August Repo. We will be there on August 24th. It's a wednesday. That is the same time for the few other people also.

Hi. We did a day stay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

http://hotels.about.com/gi/dynamic/...dn=hotels&zu=http://www.fairmont.com/acapulco

It was $40 per person to use the facilities for the day, but we found an internet rate for cheaper than that (there were 5 of us), so 2 of us checked into the hotel and used the pool all day (great pool!). It was nice to have the room then because we could shower and get ready to watch the cliff divers.

They also have a few good restaurants. We at the Beach Club restaurant, and everyone raved about the food there. They also offer beach access w/ a covered area, but the seas were a bit rough the day we were in port.

We took a taxi/van there, and it was a very reasonable fare. The hotel is about a 20-minute drive from the port. Also, if you have a great driver like we did, he will stop for you so you can take a picture of the ship -- you will climb the hills and pass the ship across the harbor.

AlexandNessa, I was wondering how you booked it? Was it specifically a "day rate" type thing? I went to the website and didn't see anything like that. I e-mailed them and asked, but, I'm wondering if it's just a normal 1 night stay, and they let you get there early and use the facilities. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

One of my travel mates called the hotel directly for info about the day pass/rates. Once we tallied $40 x 5 people, my friend went on the internet right from the cruise ship that morning (we were on HAL), and found a rate through Orbitz or Expedia for I want to say $150/160 per night. So, we put 2 adults in the room (there is an extra charge for any adult over 2 and the rest of us stayed in the background, and just charged everything under our friend's name). Then, we went back after showering to check out, and the front desk was very concerned that we hadn't enjoyed our stay and asked if everything was OK. My friend just explained that we planned it that way, that we wanted to use the facilities and have a place to shower before heading back for the evening. And the desk clerk was fine with that -- as long as we weren't checking out because we weren't pleased with the resort.

It really was a nice resort. The pool was huge and had a swim-up bar at one end (but there weren't many people drinking and there was only one bar, and like I said, the pool was huge). There were also several waterfalls that you could swim under. You did need a room key to get your towels, but they would give you as many towels as you wanted. You just had to return them to the stand to not have your room charged. Two of us had no problem getting 5 towels.

Also, we were surprised that the room they gave us was so nice for just a one-night stay through a discount online agency. It had a nice verandah with a view of the pool and the ocean.

My family wanted to do cici water park, but because of the information reported about the park, i decided to book the family beach break... Could someone fill me in about this excursion and why people are concerned. thanks. I need to have an alternative plan too.

thanks,

Kerri

Kerri,

We have heard that the water in Acapulco is dirty. Someone read in a travel book that it may not be safe to swim in the ocean because it is in an industrial area. Now, as that person said, that info is not first hand, but, what they read in a book. For our family of 4, it will be like $180. Money I don't want to spend if the water is dirty. So.... we were looking into a hotel as an alternative. We are just getting the vibe that, generally speaking, Acapulco is not that great..... I thought it would be nice to be in the sheltered invironment of a nice resort or hotel. We have gotten a few great suggestions so far. My DH is all for one of the two suggestions. It seams as though the 2nd one actually has a day rate program.
