Nice boss has decided I should tell a co worker she stinks!

Jeff, we have no customers, but I can say another co worker said she smelled unpleasant, its pretty much the same thing, and she can't get angry at the co worker if she doesn't know which one it is can she? I don't know if she would get angry, but she may think that person had a vendetta against her, this way she can't point a finger at anyone and hopefully she'll "get it". I still think I should say the boss and lead were the ones who complained LOL! :p

On the other hand, if you tell her it was a co-worker that complained, maybe she'll complain about the rumor to the boss and he'll have to deal with it after all. ;) It'd serve him right.

Dee, I like your idea. I think that she would immediately realize that she is the one, but it would let her save face since no one has said it is her specifically. This is a nice diplomatic way to tell her.

You know what would be funny? If you could say the boss and the lead noticed that someone in the dept. had a body odor problem and asked me to talk to everyone in the dept. :teeth: Bwaaahaaaahaaahaaa!!! A nice thought, but probably would get you fired.

I did wonder about your boss, though. Since the employees like you better than the lead, could this be his way of undermining your rapport with them?

Maybe she is allergic to deodrant. Who knows. There is not going to be an easy way to tell her though.

One thing to keep in mind is that maybe she can't help it.

I hate to admit it, but I have a problem with bad breath. I have done everything that the dentist has suggested. I brush my teeth sometimes 5 times a day. I drink tons of water, I have used altoids, mints, mouthwash everything! But it still smells like I ate a poop sadwich for lunch.

Good luck anyway

Your boss and his"lead" are weenies! If this is not under your job description, then you are not obligated in any way to tell this woman. Are you considering doing this because you think you'll lose your job if you don't or because you think it would be nicer coming from you the from the "lead"? Instead of your doing it, why don't you tell your boss that you are uncomfortable doing this and simply can't. But, you've thought about some ways that he could approach her with the problem and then list the ideas that you have from this forum. They're all really good ways/options and he can choose which ever way he feels the most comfortable with and tell her himself. After all...... that's one of the perks of being in charge!

I don't think my boss wants undermine my repore (sp)with co workers. And he doesn't want to fire me. Actually, the lead was promised the position before she was hired, she quit a good position to become an associate in my company, knowing in a few weeks the position for lead would be open, and since she had some back ground in production inventory, my boss could give her the position. Not everyone knows this, but I had no intention of applying for the job at the time, and when i did apply my boss told another lead that he was stuck between a rock and a hard place because he couldn't break a promise to his friend who quit her job to become the lead in my company, and if he knew I was applying for it, he would never have asked her to come to our company. I was much more qualified then she, and have been there for 3 yrs! I was also told I would deffinetly get the next lead position, and he gave me a raise so now make more then the lead does!

I know that he really feels that I can handle the stinky situation much better then he could, and that was why he asked me to do it. It wasn't an order, but if I don't do it, the co worker might get really hurt by it coming from someone other then me. She is just a lonely, unattractive women who doesn't care about appearances. She never does anything to make herself look better, dowdy clothes, no makeup and her hair just hangs in an uneven mess. But she would do anything for anyone, she has a very big heart! So i don't want anyone to hurt her, but would love to give her a makeover! Once I told her about a great hairdresser I had gone to and said she could use a good cut and color, and she just smiled and said she was a plain person with plain needs, and if it wasn't good enough tough!

So I think I will go to her and tell her that the BOSS asked me to talk to her and the others in the shipping dept about someones hygene, and hope she "gets it" and if she doesn't, then let the "lead" do it!

mhopst, I am always in close contact training people at work, so I carry tic tacs in my pocket. Nothing worse then morning breathe!

First of all, no your co-worker does not know. She probably cannot smell herself.

While I realize that this will be an unpleasant task for you, you have no idea what a difference you may make to her and what an improvement to her life sitting down and telling her that she is unpleasant to be around can make.

a new employee who just started last monday really stinks. By the end of Friday no one could stand it and some were coming up to me say:"What stinks around here" ??? My friend and I knew and were cracking up but we had to tell our supervisor and hope she will take care of it on Monday.

I saw my super's face and I can just imagine what YOURS looks like.

Our employee has bad breath and we think either poor hygine or gas. We are 27 employees and a fairly small office - what a mess!

I'm not looking forward to Monday, please keep us posted.

As far as breath, I found something on QVC that works great for me.

Tri-Oral. It is mild but still works great. Both my son and I have had problems with gums and all the flossing in the world was not helping the odor so a combo of brush, floss and tri-oral worked great.

P.S. I really want to know how you took care of this problem maybe we can share ideas.

Try writing a letter from "the management" and spell out exactly what the problem is. Don't sign it just simply say that there have been some complaints...and we are handling this in this matter as not to embarss anyone. But if you think she is just going to figure it out through a round about way...she's not!!!

Good Luck
Tracy

I didn't have to tell her! She was well groomed, you could tell she showered, her hair was still alittle damp, so she must have bathed this morning. I was soooo relieved! My boss said hopefully she will continue to do so. No one wants that more then me, I was not looking forward to telling her. But not off the hook yet, it could have been the once a weeker!

our problem still exists and the super and a co worker(witness) are going to speak to her about that and some other matters.

Thankfully, it’s not as bad this week but we’ve all gone out to lunch so we didn’t have to be in the small lunch room with her. It’s costing me plenty and I’d rather stay in but not with that #%&$@#! stink.

For those of us with bad breath - I found "Biotene" mouthwash and gum in local drug stores and it really helps me. TicTac, Altoids, etc. make my problem much WORSE.

Denise, its certainly not fair that you and other employees have to suffer because of an adult with bad odors! I do hope it gets taken care of by your boss SOON! Update here: The smelly co worker was not to clean tday, guess she is a once a weeker:eek: . Its a good thing we are off tomorrow, or I would have to tell her about it! Though next week it will probably have to be addressed by fri:( .

Its not looking to good for the lead in my department either, theres a good chance she will be let go Mon, and as you all might recall, I supposedily am next in line:eek: And about that, we will have to wait and see. I will be more upset at being lied to by the boss, if I don't get it, its sad, but I don't trust companies anymore, its all about money, as I guess it should be, but it should also be about trust and happy employees!
