We were thinking of stopping at Niagra falls for one afternoon/evening the last week in March. Anybody ever been there in the Winter? Can we see the falls (horse shoe and american) from the American side only? We didn't want to go over to Canada this time as this will just be quick stop. We've been there before but I am kind of fuzzy on what was where and we've never been there in the winter. Is it likely there will still be snow on the ground?

Thanks for any input/suggested activities for an afternoon at the falls! We don't want to do the put on a raincoat and walk out by the falls thing by the way!

Thanks!

I'd think it would be nice up there in march. There is a chance there will still be snow on ground. I was up there end of april few years ago and there was snow/ice in area of falls but nothing otherwise. I'd think you could see at least horseshoe falls from american side but I'm not sure.

The view Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, far surpasses the American side. You can always walk across Rainbow Bridge to see it.

Additionally, there is much more to do on the Canadian side.

We've been to Niagara Falls twice during March. There is still quite a bit of ice on and around the falls, but it is still an impressive site. You cannot get very close to the Canadian falls from the American side. Due to slippery conditions, the up close viewing area is closed off at that time of year. I agree that the view is much better from Canada. Why not just drive across the Rainbow Bridge and park over on the Canadian side? You can walk right up to the brink of the horseshoe falls that way.

Sonya,

I think you will enjoy the view from the Canadian side more.

It will still be very cool at the end of March. There may or may not be snow/ice on the ground, more likely wet/slushy.

Post your question on the Canadian forum. There are some Disers from Niagara Falls and the surrounding area.

I agree with Disney Funseeker. The best view is from the Canadian side. There's a toll to cross the bridge but other than that it's no trouble to drive over.

We were there in early April many years ago and there was lots of ice going over the falls. It was rather beautiful and mesmerizing too.

If you do not want to drive over the border to view the Canadian side, you can walk it instead. We do this every year in the Summer and it takes about 10 minutes to walk on over. It may be on the chilly side, but the view on the way over the bridge is worth it, you can see both sides on the walk over. There is also plenty to do on the Canadian side.
