Niagara Falls, Ontario

Thanks for all the great information. We are leaving for Niagara Saturday! So, after reading all of this I would like to stay at Embassy. We also want to go to Fallsview waterpark. Embassy has a package for the waterpark, but how do you get from the hotel to the park? Is it walkable? I can't figure out how far apart they are. We originally planned to stay at the Sheraton connected with the waterpark, but Embassy would be much better with the suite. Thanks so much. This thread has been so very helpful.
Have a safe trip! The Embassy Suite includes breakfast which is nice but $30.00 per day parking is OUCH!

I would say that it is about a brisk 15-20 minute walk. But I think you can take the Wego bus there. They usually give you coupons as part of the Embassy Suites package for the bus.......although I'm not totally sure, as we've never used the bus. The breakfast is amazing at Embassy Suites. And don't forget to get your free happy hour drinks from 4-6pm with a few munchies to eat if you're at the hotel at that time. Enjoy! :)

Op here. We've decided to stay at the double tree in Niagara Falls. I'm bummed about losing the money from the travelodge but I want to be comfy.
Did you lose all your money? Or just a down payment? That really sucks!

It was a "hotwire" deal, so non refundable. I bid on a "3 star" hotel but the thing with hotwire is you should always go a star rating up as they tend to consider 2 star hotels in the real world, 3 star. It was my first time bidding, so lesson learned. Now, I bid 4 or 5 star only. To make up for it, I did get a FANTASTIC 4 star boutique hotel in Baltimore for $88.00 a night. I hate to lose the money, but I want us to enjoy our trip and there's nothing like coming back to a dump to ruin your vacation.

Hi, we were booked at Oaks :)

I had many internal debates about staying a block away from the falls which would have been a lot cheaper or somewhere with a view. I figured sometimes you have to splurge especially when you may never re-visit.

I think you do have to splurge a bit in Niagara Falls. There are some seedy looking hotel/motels that offer really cheap rooms. Spend a bit of extra money and stay somewhere nice. :thumbsup2

Yes..i agree.

Thanks again for the help. I booked the room today at Embassy. Looking forward to it. Will continue to read here for tips!
OP here again :). I ended up applying for the Starwood Preferred Card from American Express. The sign up bonus is the highest it's ever been 35,000 Starpoints which will get me free nights at any Starwood property. I ended up getting 4 free nights at Four Points by Sheraton Niagara Falls and still have 19,000 points to use on another trip. So hotel was FREE.

We almost booked with Sheraton at the Falls, but would have needed several rooms. We booked at Great Wolf Lodge instead since we have a couple younger kids in our group. :)

You'll love it there!! I live in Buffalo and we head up there right around the kids winter break time. its a nice break from the cold. it is far from the falls though, not walking distance. not sure of you were looking for that.

We looked at great wolf lodge but my kids would never want to leave the water park..lol. We decided we want to actually sightsee so we're staying at the Sheraton.

Re:Starwood card, you have to spend 3k in 3 months to get the bonus so I'll just pay off our August Disney trip to get to that threshold. I also really love American Express.

We might have that problem as well. The younger girls are 3 and 7 years old. :) I will still get to see the sights. Its me, my husband and my 13 and 14 year old. Then joining us there are my husband sister, brother-in-law. Along with my husband adult niece, her husband, and their two girls. So if the girls want to stay at the water park, I am sure grandma, grandpa, or their dad would be willing to stay if necessary.
Nice. No grandparents traveling with us. I did book a night at great wolf lodge in the Poconos on the way home.

Just got back and thought I would let everyone know how it went. Started at Comfort Inn The Pointe on US side across the street from Niagara state park. Very convenient. Under renovation but clean. Dinner at Hard Rock. Good. Saw movie at state park. Good. Spent $31 for a hamburger, chicken sandwich, and a handful of fries at a food court-type place. I think it was in the Made in America building. Bad choice but didn't think it through at the time. All the food around that area seems really overpriced.

Canada - Stayed at Embassy Suites with a fallsview. It was great. Asked that the Tourism tax be removed (Thank you Dis.) That saved $46. Be sure to ask about this tax. We also had it removed at tgi Fridays. They did not give me any problem with removing it. Embassy is nice. Also being renovated. Only 3 rooms on our floor were occupied, since they are being gutted and redone. It was very quiet. The afternoon snack is underwhelming. Pickles, chips, snack mix, pretzels, carrots and dip. Also very crowded. We did get 2 free alcoholic drinks included. Breakfast is good but busy. The omlette line gets long quick, so get there early. (I can't imagine what this place is like if all the rooms are actually booked.) A good selection and you can sit at a table overlooking the falls, if you are lucky. The pool was packed and not that enjoyable. The hotel overlooks horseshoe falls. You can take the incline up and down to get to the falls. I think it was $11 Canadian one way for 4 of us A little pricey but a treat. Certainly better than walking back up the hill. The gift shop there has a nice selection. We used valet parking and then took the bus anywhere we wanted to go. Bus pass was included in the hotel. The bus is easy to use. We exchanged some money at a casino. The hotel recommended we would get the best rate there rather than at the hotel.

Went to Fallsview Waterpark. We rode the bus there There is a stop right out in front of the waterpark. I had never been to an indoor waterpark, so I have nothing to compare it to. We enjoyed it. I would recommend going around 12 or 1pm. Seems that was when it was starting to clear out.

Those are the highlights. Thanks for all the advice here. It was definitely helpful!

So glad I found this thread. We are heading up from NJ with a few families in August.

Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Niagara by the Falls on Murray St?

Thanks for your review. Glad you had a great time.

All set for the trip. My starpoints already loaded to my account so cost of lodging in Niagara Falls was FREE! I was also able to file a successful dispute against hotwire so I'm getting a refund on that non refundable hotel bid.

We went just last weekend. We also stayed in Ontario. Hornblower cruise is on the CA side of the falls. Also we purchased a groupon for Rainforest cafe at the Sheraton in U.S. I don't remember the expiration for that, but I believe it's still on groupon. Or you could purchase McCormick and Shmicks gift cards at Costco for $80 for $100 to use at Rainforest Cafe Canada side. Be warned though the Rainforest Cafe at the Sheraton on the U.S. side is not owned by Landry's, it is owned by the Sheraton. So I wouldn't try to combine and use both deals at the U.S. Rainforest cafe.
I wish we had time to go to Toronto, I hope you have a great trip!
