NHMickeys Weekly Thought to Ponder.... A Question of the Week... 6/26/01

The fantasy, first and foremost. It's my escape from the real world. I can go to the park and feel like I'm in another world, without a care. Or I can pop a movie in the dvd player and relax for a few hours.

For a second reason, I would pick the brilliance of it all. Many dislike Disney because it's such a huge entity, but the success of Disney just boggles my mind.

I'm not really sure...I've always loved fiction, fantasy and history and most Disney films are a combo of all 3!
Disney was such an important part of my childhood. Our Sundays were scheduled entirely around The Wonderful World of Disney!!!
In fact, when Disney came back on television on Sunday nights, my 32 year old male (he-man) cousin advised me to call him after 6pm because he'd be sure to be home and have just finished watching Disney!!! (He was childless at the time!)
We didn't see many movies when I was a child (mid 60's - 70's) and the ones we did see were all Disney. Disney really defined my childhood.
I obcessively collect Mickey and don't know why I do that either. I think my dm gave me a mickey item after we spotted it in the store and I remarked how much of an American Original he is. (I was at that adolescent stage where most mom's are trying very hard to please their dd.)
Disney gives me a common history with my nieces and nephews.
I'm from Missouri, boyhood home of Walt Disney and marvel at the vision and imagination that started it all.
:D

not sure i really want to ponder or answer this question, but the depressing answer to why i like Disney so much is this:

Disney = wonderful memories of childhood + carefree days

so Disney = escape from not so wonderful adulthood and definitely not carefree days

also yes Disney is this huge powerful entity, a company with a main business of selling happiness , which is very scary. and they're very very good at it. (in fact they hardly even need to market it anymore since people like us will pass on our awe with everything Disney to our children)

but i like not to think of the business side of things, and just to keep the fantasy notion of Disney and how it gives me a false sense of happiness.

my bf on the other hand, informs me that the Disney "brainwashing" he received at a Disney Institute seminar back a few years ago, has worn off, and he still likes Disney, but doesn't revere it the way he used to.

(sorry i know this is so cynical and depressing... enough thinking for the day, back to obsessively planning the WDW trip after my next WDW trip :p )

There is no other place like it in the world. It is a place you can get away from home and forget your problems because you can't help but smile when you are there.

We have been to WDW at least 600 times since 1974 and can't wait each time to get there again.

We love what Walt Disney's believes were and think he would be pleased with the way it has turned out.

CHEESE SOUP.

I even took a picture of a bowl of CHEESE SOUP at "Le Cellier'.

Another Mystery of Life.

Cheese Soup at "Le Cellier", Canada (Epcot), but made in Wisconsin ??????

Did Canada annex our Wisconsionians without our knowledge ?? I thought they had interest in our New Hampshorians.
