NHL star killed in a car accident

I don't follow Hockey at all.

How big was he in the sport?

Was he as compared to the NFL,"Patrick Mahomes level",or a level below that, etc.?

The Death Penalty should be on the table for DUI Murder.

The dude showed no remorse in his first appearance before a Judge.

He was a US national team player and well liked and known within the NHL.

How big was he? Well, he had his moments, made the All Star team a handful of times, but never quite lived up to his potential. His past two years with the Columbus Blue Jackets have been a disappointment.

A step or two below Patrick Mahomes level.

He made the NHL all-star team 7 out of his 10 seasons. He holds several records. Everyone was surprised when he signed with Columbus becausae he turned down bigger money offers to do so, but he wanted to raise his family in a smaller market area with a reasonable commute to his extended family. I agree that his two seasons in Columbus were not the highlight of his career, but I'm not sure how much of that was hif fault. Columbus's team has been a train-wreck for the last several years (and I say that as a Columbus fan). Johnny led the team in points, but one guy can only do so much.

Been following Johnny Hockey since his high school days at Gloucester Catholic. A superstar in every sense of the word. A smaller player, he exceled in a sport dominated by bigger players. His playing career is only eclipsed by his personal life. He went to a smaller market (at a smaller salary) for the good of his family. He regularly was involved in charity events and children's hospitals. Through it all, remained humble and modest, like the guy next door. He is what professional athletes should emulate. Condolences to his family.
