Both girls are Guide members and Alexandra (15) is a Junior Leader and helps out at two Brownie packs locally. Apart from swimming, we've always encouraged them to take part in groups like this since I had a real blast in the cubs, scouts and venture scouts many years ago.
Recently there was a local weekend selection camp to choose suitable girls for an upcoming international camp which both girls attended. Alexandra was previously at Camp Downe for 10 days on an international camp (just down the road) and both had been to Switzerland by train on a Guide trip.
Our minds raced as we thought well, if they both go it'll give us some time to escape on holiday together without the kids in tow and thoughts turned to Hong Kong, Hilton Head or something out of the DVC international collection.
The upshot of the selection weekend that both had been selected. Alexandra has been chosen to go to Namibia at the end of august next year as she'll be 16. Laura wasn't old enough but has been selected for an international camp in Belgium on the first two weeks of August!
Rats! - that's torn it!
Not really a problem as we'd never deny any experience for the girls within reason and cost although we may have to sell the family silver at this rate! - LOL
Currently looking at different options like a summer camp for Laura and the end of august while we take a break but it's a way off in the future so we have a fair chunk of planning time.
