Next time I book VWL, I'm requesting the Dumpster View......

There seem to be a lot of "problem" threads on the board right now. Towels, trash, dumpster views, etc. What about some solutions to them.

Like two of them. If we could get the people that leave their trash in the halls to just take them down to the end where the dumpster rooms are, then the dumpster view people could have something fun to do on the balcony, first two floors would count for two points any next two floors would be a three point shot:D . Then people would want to be in those rooms for all the fun that the kids will have. Then you would be justified in paying the same points for the room as the other views. Heck, people will be requesting dumpster view to keep the kids from having to go to the park everyday, it'll be a cost saver. Maybe when that hits DVC they'll actually charge more points for those rooms so people won't want to stay there. VWL resale contracts will soar because you'll need the 11 month window just to get in there for the dumpster/toss view.

HA, we'll show them.;)

mb168 AHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Then you'll ALLLLLL be wanting 3562!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was mine, just once!!!!!

.... and honestly, due to the weather.... chilly weather,DW does not do CHILLY on the balcony.... the DUMPSTER view was not an issue. Maybe had the mornings been warmer and we had wanted to enjoy a cup of coffee out there I would feel differently. Part of our initial irratation with the view probably had to due with the fact that we had worked all day friday then driven straight thru the nite to arrive Saturday morning. Being tired will tend to make us blow things a little out of proportion. As for the actual view, I think it may improve with age. There are some trees that as they grow and fill out will act as a natural barrier.

Final assesment of The View:

1) Disappointed it even exists. Disney appears to have taken the easy/cheap route in how to handle trash & laundry.

2) Not attractive, but not that bad. It will not ruin your vacation.

3) Disney can still do something to improve the view.

4) Just scrap the whole "room requests" pretense aside from medical and smoking/non-smoking. Room asignment is just pot luck. We made general requests- odd numbered room, upper floor, near the elevator- at the 11 month window and checked in at a fairly early time-11:15. ( Note: an earlier post about the 5th floor only having two studios will account for not getting the 5th floor.) I didn't mention this in my OP, but when we were checking in, the CM was really working the 'putor trying to find us a room assignment. She finally said "I just can't get you a pool view". We said "Pool view ????, we don't care about a pool view".

Onto more important issues: Do you know just how far it is from the elevator to the door of studio 3560 ? One hundred and eighty three steps. I have a 39 inch stride. Thats just a couple inches under 595 feet. I feel terrible for the folks in 3562. They have to travel two football fields to get to their room. Guess I should feel lucky with my room :-)

Since I like football, does that mean I should have been happier about the walk to 3562? hehehehe

We checked out yesterday as well. Got to agree on the weather ( I thought Florida was suppossed to be nice and warm ;) )

Discovered on the last day that our room was exactly the same room we had in June - spooky - second floor facing the lodge.

Only other thought was that the whole place was jam packed with people ... only ever seen it that busy during the summer months.

David :D

I've never been in the Army, but DVC gives me a similar experience. I have NEVER had a nice view, except when specifically using more points at VB for an ocean view.

We stayed on points at the Grand Californian and had a view of the parking lot. We stayed at VWL and had a view of the parking lot. We stayed at BWV in a preferred view room and wound up being over a pool with loud late night kids (midnight) - not a nice view over the boarwalk and the lake.

I wouldn't know what to DO with a nice view. I am sure if I had joined the Army, everyone in my unit would go to Hawaii and I would go to Kansas (no offense to Kansas, I just would prefer Hawaii!).

Last time at VB we made reservation well in advance and wound up in a handicap room - I wondered at the time if this had something to do with first come/first serve as to availability - we did not like the room.

Oh well, I'm through.... one day Disney will surprise me (and I have to admit, it is not just Disney - everyone gives me bad views!)

As uncommon as that dumpster view may be, we've had it twice in 4 trips to the VWL. I hope we do better next year when we are bringing friends.

This year we were in 1554 (a studio). First floor facing the dumpster but you wouldn't know it was there. When we checked in (11:30 on Saturday) the room wasn't ready and they said they could give us 2554. We said no thanks as we knew that was potential dumpster view.

As for dumpster view rooms I'd refuse anything even numbered that is 2552 or higher, 3552 or higher, or 4552 or higher. That makes about 18 rooms that have a less than stellar view.

I like Vikes idea of requesting the dumpster view so you don't get it ;).

Vike - glad you made it home ok. We were scheduled to fly out Saturday night but called on Friday to change to a sunday afternoon flight. All Saturday flights were cancelled and we got home Sunday without delay or incident...............................and got to spend an extra night at WDW (Riverside) in the process :).

... I thought you'd manage to find a way to stay down another day. How bad did the Junction get hit ? My DS in Boston got nailed with a couple feet.

We had a good trip home, roads were great. Couple spots in Jersey where the open farm fields let the wind keep driving the snow onto the road were a bit slick but no problem.

Glad we got a chance to meet, it's good to put a face on the people we chat with. I'm sure our paths will cross a few more times over the years.

How bad did the Junction get hit ?
18 inches. I owe my neighbor big time as he and another guy cleared part of my driveway as they knew we were away. That was big. The wind did the snow clearing job at the airport and I didn't even have to dig out there.

As for crossing paths........here's hoping the Jets are on MNF on November 29, 2004 ;).

As for the topic at hand, that trip next year after Thanksgiving will be with friends in a 2 br. Anyone know if any of those dumpster view rooms are 2 br's? I hope they are all studios.
