Have the Rebel XT and have been playing with it in Auto Mode for the last 1.5 weeks. Just getting the feel of holding the camera, also have been going through the menu just to get an idea of where everything is.
I think I understand where everything is,no problems down loading and I format the card within the camera.

I have the "Canon 85 1.8"
and the "Kelly 18-125".

Now I want to go to the next step...what is it?

I feel I have alot of shake and am trying to position my arms and the camera
in the correct position, but still looks as if I moving alot..?This is my perception through the view finder but the pics seems to come out good, in auto.WIll this change in the real world?

Oh, one more thing......in auto, I love the the pics I get from the 2 lenses above, I am sure they will get better as I move out of P&S and into your world of dSLR.I am going to need more length,What I should be looking for? Not sure why I am saying this but I feel I will want more....is this a natural feeling/addiction? Let's say my budget was $1100.00usd.

Thx as always for your help & guidance.

if you need better quality lens: 17-55 f/2.8 IS
if you need better reach: 70-300 IS (currently backordered around the world)

The next step is the "P" mode, where you have control over ISO and shutter speed/aperture. Then you can adjust the ISO beyond the 100-400 available in "Auto" and go for low-light photos.
You can also set the shutter/aperture to suit the image, say a slow shutter speed for moving water, or a wide aperture for portraits.

In "P" there is always the option to use RAW to extend your range of light values (with the added overhead of memory card space and processing time).

To reduce shake a small, light monopod will help without adding much to your load. A nice IS lens will do a lot but will also lighten your wallet a lot too.

For a longer lens you might look at Canon's 70-200 f4 with the 1.4 extender, or if you have the $$$ try the 2.8 IS with extender.

If I ever get a sigma 18-125 I absolutely want the special "Kelly Signature" model that Sigma should offer in honor of all the business Kelly has given them! :)

We are heading on a cruise in Sept, we're doing the double as well.
Thats why I am trying to get the full use of the camera before then.
