I'm not sure if this has been posted yet or not:

You are looking at Apple's next iPhone. It was found lost in a bar in Redwood City, camouflaged to look like an iPhone 3GS. We got it. We disassembled it. It's the real thing, and here are all the details.

I think this will be the Verizon phone, from what I've read. No More AT&T.

Not leaked but stolen. There is a fun story about how they acquired the phone to go along with the images.

It's still going to be on AT&T. Verizon's network is completely different than AT&T's and thus will require different hardware in order to work with it. Not saying that there won't be a Verizon iPhone, just that the one that comes out first this summer (e.g. this stolen/planted/leaked/lost/ whatever prototype) will be via AT&T. If this is the final form factor they opt to go with, I'm thrilled to bits that all of the areas of my 3GS that now have teeny-tiny stress cracks (by the headphone port and the 2 screws down by the dock connector) are all metal on the new iPhone.

Personally, I'm not convinced that this wasn't actually a darn good marketing ploy by Apple. They get a buzz going (like there wasn't one already from the iPhone geek community, of which I am a proud member) and generate even more excitement about the upcoming launch, whenever that may turn out to be.

Well Apple is not really known for "marketing ploys" etc ahead of time. I remember the IPad was rumored for so long and then POW- there it was.
If they were going to do this, I would sure think it would be over a bigger deal than the new IPhone.

I'm not sure if it'll be AT&T or not. From everything I've read this new phone will be compatible with Verizon's network and not AT&Ts - -but who knows? (other than Steve Jobs)

Can you say "publicity stunt"?

doubt it

right. I don't think it's a publicity stunt either. It's the next gen iPhone. Not a brand new product There's really no hype here other than the expected summer release of a new iphone

Well, right now the iPhone is still exclusive to AT&T; no agreement has been reached with Verizon to even carry it. Everything is still rumors at this point. Like you said, though, Steve may know something no one else does to this point.

I don't doubt that this period of exclusivity will end eventually, probably sooner rather than later, but they wouldn't be developing completely different technology to work on a CDMA network when they haven't reached an agreement with the carrier yet. The new iPhone is (allegedly) set to launch toward the end of June, so they're gearing it toward AT&T customers right now. :)

Mac Rumors is my other home when I'm not on the DIS. They have a ton of good information there and will doubtlessly break the news of an agreement between Verizon and Apple the very instant it happens. There are tons of members there who can't use AT&T because coverage is lacking where they are that are DYING to get the iPhone on Verizon. Every other day, new people keep asking when it's going to happen. I hope it happens quickly so more people will get to use the iPhone because I love it so freaking much. :lovestruc I'm a dork, and that's fine with me.

I wish they would release it for Tmobile. Don't think thats going to be for a while, though. And I agree- probably a publicity stunt.

I hope so too! I'm on Verizon and currently have a Crackberry which I do really like, but it's still doesn't have the processing power I'd like. My DH has a Droid and while I could go with it, it's just too much phone for me (too big and bulky for my little hands). Plus I'm a Apple-phile with 2 Macs and an iPod, I need more! ;)
