Cal. Grill.... For 5 years I have made a PS here and we NEVER made it! This year we were going no matter what. Today2/9 we switched to AKL and my parents joined us. They LOVE good dinning but are very frugal Germans
which is not always a good combo in WDW.
We arrive for our PS at 6pm and were seated with in 5 minutes. What a breath taking view!! It really set for a mood for celebrating! We were given the Reserve wine list and it was not anything I was interested in. Then we were given the "regular" wine list and found a 40$ Merlot we all enjoyed. My 1yo slept thru the whole meal!!!
WE started with Potabella mushroom Flat bread that was a hit! My DM had the Winter greens salad that she said was good. DH had the house salad with green goddess dressing that was average.
DF had the red wine braise shortribs and they were VERY fatty with very little meat.
DM Had the Diver scallops with canalli bean and black truffle which basically was refried beans. The scallops were good but the beans were and aweful combo. We did not expect them to come mashed.
I had the Chicken Breast stuffed with Blue cheese, ham and raisens. with root vegtable mash. The chicken Was completely dry and cold with no flavor. I did not want to ruin the mood of the evening or I would have sent it back!.
DH had the Pork and Polenta. I had taken the recipe from Debs site and made it for New Years and it was wonderful. Deb recipe has ****alki mushrooms and balsamic vinegar. This was Cerimi mushrroms and Zinfandel glaze. It was good but the one I made for NY was better.
Dessert was the Valhora Chocolate lava cake. The way the waiter described it you thought it was the huge dessert. It was actually a small cake with and "underdone" center. My DDs were disappointed.
Our server was pretty non exsistent. We had to call him back to finish our order. Not the service for the price you are paying.
All in All the meal came to around 250.00. Not worth it IMHO. To many great restaurants at WDW . We may have caught it at a bad night but I personally think Kona Cafe is lightyears better just doesn't have the view.
