I would like to send out a newsletter before disney sends save the dates to give everyone a head up. I have no idea where to begin creating them. DOes anyone have any samples they can share?

Hey! I wasn't ready to really buy any software to help with the newsletter so here's what I did.

Step-by-step kind of thing:
1. I just used Microsoft word, and divided the page into two columns
2. I did a search for free Disney clip art... there are tons!
3. I did a search and downloaded a free Disney style font.. like Walt's handwritting.

That's all! It was really easy, and free. It took me like 30 minutes to put together.

I did a total of 4 newsletters (mailed out every other month) for our traveling guests.

Newsletter #1 - Our Destination Wedding Announcement
Newsletter #2 - Info on resort, magical express and everything Disney!
Newsletter #3 - Our itinerary, guest list, and family tributes
Newsletter #4 - Our wedding day events

I posted the last 3 on our wedding website. They are MS Word files so you can download them from: Our Wedding Website for viewing and gathering ideas.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! !

Wow, your website and newletters are fantastic. I am at work now and cannot fully take the time to enjoy them but I will definately check it out from my home computer.

Linda

We sent out two. I would be happy to email them to you and you could use them as templates, if you'd like. If so, just PM me with your private email address. We tried to send the second one out via email as much as possible and only to those people we knew were coming, or had yet to hear back from. Save a tree and some money mailing them and start gathering as many emails as possible!

i diy-ed our own save the dates here

i also send 3 newsletters i copied the first page & posted 2 of them here

the scans arent great but all our diy projects turned out so nice.

our save the dates had a magnet on the front to post on the fridge, the link for our knot website, the dates of our event, etc. the first newsletter was general info, planned events & details about our wedding day the second newsletter was faq, with questions & answers like airline contacts & prices, things to do, etc. the third newsletter i just mailed is a wdw guide with pictures of the rides, info on the attractions, best places to eat with general pricing, things for kids & romance.

I used a print program for my first newsletter so I can't e-mail it, but I can get you an idea of what was in it. It had:

Why we went with disney.
What dates we would be there.
A blurb on the wedding site, with a photo.
Then there was a section on the 2 hotels we'd picked with a picture of each, and info on the themeing, and prices, as well as info about getting AAA rates for the rooms.
There was info on the disboards, as well as allears, and disney's 800 number, And also info on tickets explaining how the My Way works and sample prices.

The second newsletter had TONS of information:

Since we were going at Christmas I included a page of Holiday activites around the World, like Mickey's Christmas Party, the special trees, the santas around the world, you name it.
Then I had another page of tips, like using fast passes, and the average weather conditions in December. As well as money saving tips like getting a double cheeseburger, and an extra bun for $.80. Or ordering with out the fries and soda. As well as refillable mugs.
I also had a page on the tours that Disney offers.
I had a page of kids activites, for our niece.
I also had info on Magical Express.

And the thrid and final newsletter had:

A list of everyone going and what hotel they were staying in.
Information on the welcome party.
Park Hours, including EHM.
Parade and Fireworks info.
A list of closed rides.
A wedding day time line. (including info on transportation, to the wedding, during the event, and after dinner)
And a packing list.

The sad part is this was all for an intimate wedding with 9 guests, and only 3 of them read any of this. But, I had a lot of fun working on the packets. If you would like me to e-mail you any of information I have from the 2nd or 3rd packets (they were done in Word) just PM me with your address. I'd be more than willing to share it. The 3 people who did read it did find it useful at least.

As for save the dates, I got tropical chalkboard magnets from Oriental Trading, that I used a paint marker to write on. I put Joe & Melissa 12-6-05 and then I did a hidden mickey at the bottom.

Wow everyones newsletters sound great!
MEME - yours looked fantastic!

How far before the wedding did everyone send theirs out?

Thanks Laurafoster and lpizzuro123 !

I would suggest that anyone having a destination wedding to create newsletters for traveling guests. :thumbsup2

My family and friends really enjoyed getting them every time and they all said that they kept their anticipation high for the wedding!

I mailed each one in color coordinated envelopes and sealed them with Disney stickers....I must say that they were adorable!

Have fun creating your own Disney Magic! pixiedust:
