The Sox haven't won the World Series since 1918, when they traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Before the trade the Sox were the dominant team. They've made it to the World Series a few times since 1918 ('86 was the last time) but haven't won since.

Just to clarify - Babe Ruth was traded after the 1918 World Series - he played for the Red Sox in that series. He was traded to the Yanks in 1920.

And the rest is history.....

People around here know of one other "end" to the curse. A little boy was hit in the face at one of the Red Sox/Yankees games this summer, by the game winning home run (the actual ball). His family had seasons tickets. When they did some investigation they found out that he actually lives in one of the houses that Babe Ruth actually owned. So people think that's another thing that's going to help the Sox win this year.
