Well - I would agree with you if the race was CANCELLED Disney would do something such as refund the racers money. For a weather delay - I think they do nothing. Even a "10% off you next race registration" could cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars, and I'm sure that their costs weren't reduced by shortening the race one bit. Again, from my point of view - I don't blame Disney for doing that either. They have no problems filling registrations...do you think they will not be able to fill races in the future if they don't do anything??
I'm not saying Disney did anything wrong or that they should do anything really. Races fill up in hours, so of course they won't have a problem there.

If a typical Disney race costs $200, a 10% discount is just $20. Even if all 15,000 runners took advantage of that, they're looking at "losing" $300k. That's the max and isn't likely to hit close to that number. Entry cost alone for Wine and Dine generates around $3 million. So if they spent/lost $100k to do something for the runners, that's just 3.3% of that cost which doesn't include other revenue generated by a race for RunDisney.

How much do you think RD spends in marketing races? How much is positive talk and goodwill worth? Doing something other races would not do? Do you think that would be worth 100k?

ETA: Also, this race wasn't just a "weather delay". The race was cut in half. This is why people are upset. Not with Disney, but with the situation. People train for months and set goals... so when the opportunity to reach that goal is taken away, it hurts. Disney has a chance to soften that blow.

I'd like to add while rundisney did what they had to I think communication could've been better. They tweeted and facebooked updates. Not everyone has a phone on the course to check those things.

Disney also charges a decent amount more than most races around the world.

Rundisney is definitely not marketed a lot. I found out from becoming involved in the fan community a couple years ago. I had no idea it existed prior to that and it's been around for 20 years.

I think the best option for Disney would be allowing the runners who were on the event the chance to sign up early rather than a discount. It's at least something but they aren't losing money either.

I think you answered your own question - if the races fill up in hours whether or not they give a refund - why give a refund?

Now that would be a smart idea. Good marketing and wouldn't cost them a dime.

Just beat me to it! Did you notice how the end of Star Wars Weekends is tucked way down in the article? I almost overlooked it.

They definitely hid it. I almost missed it too, it's a very complex sentence for skimming

During construction, anyway.

"While Star Wars Weekends has been a great way to enjoy the saga for a few days every year, now the Force will be with Disney’s Hollywood Studios every day."
I take that to mean no more ever

No doubt it's possible, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see the event return if it means more foot traffic. Alternative, I wouldn't be surprised if they returned with a ticketed event.

I wasn't suggesting a refund, but a voucher for a future race... but reetz' idea is better. Early signup for next year's race would seem like a good option. I wonder how they could pull that off though?

1. Not surprised
2. Im sure this will debut right about the same time the movie does
3. They are doing the same in Disneyland, the sign is already up
4. nothing new
5. nothing new
6. Not surprised almost expected

What is interesting is nothing on the fireworks.

There's nothing at all about SotF, which is what the fireworks are connected to. I was surprised the didn't throw anything in there about that as a consolation for SWW

A ticketed event is incredibly possible. I'd be surprised if that didn't happen.

Exactly. Launch bay and path of the Jedi are being marketed as part of the season of the force in Disneyland. I'm going to be there in January and I was hoping the fireworks would be there by then.
